This Hardcore Nuzlocke has long been thought to be IMPOSSIBLE... can we break that idea in half?!
Fire types are wickedly powerful, but have a fair amount of common weaknesses and are hard to find in the games. Can fire types beat Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire's hardest challenge?!

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Ruby Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Fire types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Are we ever getting that gen 4 true power tournament? I miss the true power series
Still have not seen a Fire Red/Leaf Green Hardcore Fire Nuzlocke. Charmeleon vs Misty at level 21 ( maybe 22 with edging to level up on Staryu)
With the right nature, speed ivs, and Secret Power, it might just be possible to outspeed, smash with Secret Power and either Crit or Paralyze, and allow you to win, or gamble with smokescreen for water pulse miss.
Once Scarlet and Voielt come out we are extending the timer by 16 months, but it’s not enough
Could u soul like with flygon hg
Silph here is a impossible challenge, pokemon stadium 2 with rentals but using just one type
Its worth acknowledging that he managed to get all the way to the 4th E4 without a death in an 'impossible' run.
And with 15 resets
But yeah, super skillful
@@imbattlnscurvy5922 cant tell if the 'But yeah, super skillful' is sarcastic or just agreeing, but if it is sarcastic, those 15 resets were bcs luck wasn't lucking how it should, it was impossible to get past Roxanne without luck, after Roxanne he remained without deaths until Drake.
I mean, the only part that made the run "impossible" was the first gym. The rest of it is like any other one in difficulty. Not that it isn't impressive but it is something to note.
@@RedMadMichael I swear I'm not trying to be mean
@@imbattlnscurvy5922 They wre asking since you know its hard to read sarcasm
I'm scared for the day Silph runs out of type/game combos, these videos are great.
Hopefully he keeps making vids with different teams restrictions! Pokédex colour, greater/less than a certain height or weight, theme teams; there’s a lot to choose from!
Maybe also do romhacks or sth with the monotype challenge :D
Theres a bunch of rom hacks out there that would make good nuzlocke challenges
Not to worry. As there will always be a new generation where one can do a monotype run.
Still waiting for Pokemon Black only Flying-types Nuzlocke.
Finding Torkoal over Slugma very likely saved the run.
Yep that 4x weakness to water and ground would have screwed Silph
@@Oost129 how did he faked it?
RED HEAD PUBES- FIRE CROTCH! PUBE SALAD!
its crazy how i came across this channel a week ago and now ive binge watched nearly every hardcore nuzlocke silphs done.
That's insane; thanks for the support! Gonna do my best to get new episodes up for you so you won't have to wait long for more 😅
Me too
Cause they’re so enjoyable!!
“Nosepass, I’ve come to bargain”
I could, for the live of me, not even imagine the pain of retrying the first gym in a game 15 times! Mad respect, Silph!
The commitment is really commendable man! Just getting past the first gym leader took far more patience and thinking than I could ever manage lol
Nuzlocke Idea : Kecleon Type Run
1 st encounter / starter - has to be the same type as the 1st gym is (rock if you are playing Pearl)
After obtaining a badge you can get another encounter depending on what the next gym type is (grass if you are playing Pearl), repeat until the final badge.
Bonus challenge : Must use Kecleon if you can get it as a viable encounter (ignoring the gym badge catching rule)
Really enjoying you content Silph, keep up the good work.
To add just a bit more challenge, I think it would be fun if you can only have the same amount of team members as the next gym
I love this idea 😂
I really do love watching these videos. Definitely keep up your hard work you nuzlocking legend!
32:29
Yes, finally!!! I love brick break soo much! I'm glad someone else does too!! Much respect for the clever Castform idea.
02:40 took me out bruh!! 😂😂😂😂😂😅😅
Wow! You did an amazing job with this run. They way you didn’t have any deaths until the elite four and you didn’t have any more resets was truly amazing. The self proclaimed “best nuzlocker” TH-camr should watch this. The dedication with the first gym leader and then using a castform effectively was amazing.
I always look forward to these videos (: I really like most of the fire types available for this challenge
Despite being a smaller number, the encounters definitely are really cool ones!
Silph with the nice touch by playing a snippet of Amanda by Boston. Perfect.
Dude what a run! Easily my favourite that you've done, the strats you used were ingenious and the risks you took with fire blast at the end really added some jeopardy. Bravo sir, loved it
I like how you combined the nuzlocke rule intro with what the challenge was. Efficiency 📈
You know it's a good (Sun)day when Silph posts new video. Thank you!!!
Btw would you consider doing a hardcore nuzlocke with Grass type in HGSS? I heard it is almost as impossible as this one but never dare to try one. I know you did the one for Crystal but the game was old. Thanks in advance!!!
Great resoect for putting me in the run. BRENT was awesome. My fav gen 3 starter finally help you defeat roxanne after bout 15 tries wow
This video really hits home Silph. Ruby is literally the first Pokémon game I ever played, and the nostalgia is everything. This challenge was so entertaining as well.
I really hope you never get tired of making these, they seem like a TON of work. I love watching them. Excited to see what other challenges you can come up with once all the types are done!
Awesome!
One of the best types for a Gen 3 run, right? I love your creativity, Silph!
Great run man! Honestly the Fire Blast luck in this video was statistically improbable, but that’s the awesome part of playing the games. You never know how a run will go until you do it. Way to tackle a run that most would have deemed impossible!
I’ve long thought this to be the most impossible of the hardcore nuzlockes out there cause of the first gym… let’s see how this goes
Man I don’t know what id do without Silphs weekly nuzlocke episodes, I haven’t been excited for a TH-camrs next uploads in awhile but silph never disappoints with his hilarious yet really well edited videos. You can tell he puts a lot of effort in each play through and in each video In general, love your content man and I’m looking forward to more nuzlockes if I may recommend any challenges I was thinking a poison type only on either Pokémon omega ruby or alpha sapphire, p.s there my favorite remakes lol.
39:08
Did someone else noticed the guy that appeared in the empty pokemon slot? I MIGHT be wrong, but is probably some joke with the name ´´Drake´´ that i didn´t get. It´s really funny, though.
ok now I understand why there were a couple gaps in uploads. This is incredible
its a shame not only slugma can only be obtained in a second route on emerald, but the fact roxanne has a second geodude in there its 100% impossible to do it with only a level cap torchic, even if it had perfect IVs it just wouldnt cut it. if only it could learn bullet seed (i mean hes still a bird and i think some of the flying types do learn it...)
great video as always silph, using my favorite starter at my favorite gen once again.
It's technically possible I suppose, if you get enough crits and misses from Roxanne's Pokemon.
How many resets is that gonna take though? Even without actually resetting the run.
@@Zerox_Z21 you would probably need 5-6 consecutive crits just to get past the geodudes not to mention that they would have to miss all their attacks or use harden (ember will always hit harder than any other move torchic can get at that point but the AI can be wonky with status moves anyway so they do have a chance to waste their turn with it) which is simply an absurd mathematical improbability.
a 100% perfect torchic could probably safely setup growls assuming at least a first turn miss, but that would only be good for the first geodude. and honestly if it isnt to make complete resets everytime you might as well just allow the lv cap to be 1 lv higher to get combusken. thats literally the only impossible hurdle in the run.
16:37 "Well it looks like a Fire-type run is one of those rare opportunities for an easy Wattson battle."
Magcarjoe: *crying*
Seriously, you help me so much with these videos. They're like a relaxing pill to my anxious nature. Thank you
Oh hell yea! If anyone can do it, it's you man. 🤜🤛 godspeed, Silph.
I'm glad ppl have caught on to this type of playing pokemon. Becoming a type master is a good way to make the same old boring pokemon feel refreshing and new.
New subscriber here but watched many of your videos!! Love it when my phone notifications go off so I can watch new ones buddy
I genuinely laughed my ass off at 39:08 - great video and you’ve earned a new subscriber!
I know the True Power series doesn't get the numbers that these runs do, but if you ever decide to return to that, I'd definitely watch!
The Sinnoh remakes have some pretty busted teams for the Sinnoh trainers (in the rematches).
So Sinnoh True Power would work really well, they question is just in what game they should be played.
That struggle with Roxanne at the beginning and the set-up are one of my favorite things about HC Nuzlockes - getting around crazy obstacles and having to optimize every aspect of your Pokemon you can.
As a Party Crashers fan, I find it hilarious that you won against Roxanna with a Brent of all possible names.
Impressive and entertaining as always! I’m actually playing through Ruby right now and first time using Camerupt after all these years
Ya know you could’ve used Torchic’s focus energy to increase your crit odds from 1/16 to 1/4
10:58 attempt 15… So many attempts… And it looks like, given you got that one female, Bella that you kept resetting for a perfect IV each time…. You love to make your gaming painful, huh? 🤔
44:05 So it seems it’s the beginning part of this challenge in this version that makes it seem super difficult to impossible… As after a few badges, you don’t seem to struggle at all… 😮
Just one death too… Almost deathless- Incredible 😎👍🏻🤘🏻
You’re number ☝🏼
You know what doesn’t make sense.
Sunny Day weakens Water moves, but doesn’t affect Ice at all.
This was one of the few times I thought Silph was gonna meet his match and again I was wrong! Amazing video as always Silph. Stay amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome video -- great work, Silph!
I've always loved the area around Fallarbor Town; beautiful scenery and lots of interesting pokemon to build a team with.
That seaking interaction made up for the grey-zone rule bend. Absolutely loved to see castform actually be used for once (that thing made its home in my PC)
i definitely think using castform does not break any rules. really cool seeing it used in a nuzlocke
As long as castform is a fire type when hes using any move except sunny day, id call that fair
Really a top hardcore nuzlocke! One supposedly impossible challenge, made possible! A very bold attempt! Maybe one day I can try that craziness as well! Well done, Silph!
That grind at the beginning deserves a like and subscribe by everyone watching this. Slyph you mad boss!
It honestly makes me sad when I finish each video cause then I have to wait for the next I love watching the videos man keep up the work your extremely underrated
17:40 they're crackheads lmaooo
You have no idea how happy it makes me to see your Nuzlocks after a day of work. Its a nice surprise
Never have I seen something so amazing. Here’s to many more years
This made my day, was looking to forward to watching this all day and I was not disappointed
You've been quite consistent on the uploads Mr. Silph. Please more, your commentary documentary are so good.
One of the runs I enjoyed the most! Battles, storytelling, jokes. Great job
A firey way to spend my birthday is watching silph thank you sir
Amazing video Silph, you nailed it! Can't wait for the next challenge!
I never thought i would see a castform put in so much work in a nuzlocke, but holy crap Natalie the goat.
Love your videos as always!
Also waiting for some more tournaments of power. Do only champions!
Excellent work! This nuzlocke sure was tricky!
😀😀😀
I wish I could insert the gif of the little boy from The Incredibles screaming THAT WAS AWESOME!
Great video, go gen 3! A word of advice that could have helped for the first gym where every EV mattered: EV's are applied at level up AND when deposited in the PC (so level 100 pokemon can still br EV trained). But what that means is that if you deposited and withdrew your Torchic right before going into the Roxanne battle, you could have slightly buffed your stats and the odds of winning.
Yessir love to see it 🔥🔥🔥 gotta give you props for the grind bro bro 🔥🔥🔥
No one show this to MandJTV. Castform getting a spotlight here would make him insufferable. Dude's got an obsession.
Top quality videos look forward to them everytime they come out, would love more gen 4 videos if possible
You deserve a like for that tv stunt you pulled 😂😂😂
A Silph video to start my day, nothing better
Duane's KO was a perfect example of Icarus flying too close to the sun. You kept getting too lucky with those fire blasts!
Already hyped I especially love when you do these for gen 3. You're the best!
excellent work! proof of silph being a nuzelockin master gettin the only deathers right at the eliete four. also i wanna see you do the avatar run with the fire nation!
Man, these last two Nuzlocke runs Silph has done have been painful to watch. At least Silph managed to pull through to the end despite the low number of Fire Types in Hoenn roadblock that was Roxanne. Congrats on making it through to the end.
Try a Nuzlocke where you can only use pokémon that the villain uses. (ex. team Plasma for White 2)
Great video bro don't ever stop making your videos. Your content is awesome. It was rough in the beginning it pull it though. Keep up the success on your channel bro.
Torkoal was definitely the saviour of this run. One of the few really bulky fire types
I was fully prepared to watch this grown man fight the first gym member of my childhood game...well done sir
“Impossible run” in which you completely destroy every major battle after Roxanne
So weird not starting the video with the usual spiel lol. Awesome video as always!
Love love LOVE your videos Silph! Been missing you.
The dedication to make this work jesus. Really good video man
Awh yeah, this is gonna be GOOD.
One of your best videos yet 🙏🏽

I didn’t even know Vulpix was on Ruby.
I was thinking about doing this challenge and the odds stacked against
But then our "are you kidding me/that is not good/literally 1HP/hyped move description explanation" King comes in clutch once again👌
I was 30 years old when I played emerald that I realized that nosepass wasn't whistling, and what I thought was his mouth, was actually the bottom of his foot.
I will admit. Was taken aback by the numel's name. Flattered to share the name with the pokemon you're so fond of, Mr Silph!
That whole ash/dust/flute thing is just dam good script writing always keep it up dude
Love the frequent uploads! Favorite nuzlocke youtuber!
This one reminds me of the diamond/pearl run, where it's somewhat luck based but also a ton of skill, great video
Watson watching his team getting one shot with Flamethrower: 👁👄👁
that kind of commitment is 100% worth a like at least!
Drake had God's plan
Let's go early vid catch I needed this today! Love the content. Keep up the great work. Can't wait for your next alolan run.
Great run Silph, you're the best!!!
How about a Psychic team on Pokémon LeafGreen, with Abra being your starter, you can catch a wild one and trade for Mr. Mime
Well done! I've been trying single type runs as well, no nuzlocke though haha Been playing in Inclement Emerald! Just completed a dark type run.
Thank you for the video!
Silph, watching your Nuzlocke challenges is always a thrill. From your humor in the videos to your strategies, it’s genuinely a fantastic ride to go on from beginning to end!
How the f Silph has SO MUCH patience for this.
So glad you uploaded!! It's gonna be a great day 😁
I loved this run it was so exciting, some stressfull moments as well, on the first gym it could have helped you a lot the focus energy move, maybe having more crit opportunities would work those embers vs roxanne
Despite all odds, you did it...43/8. Amazing.
Ah Black Belt Nob, there's a man with fond memories of his schooldays.
