      the most level headed yt investment info on YT.
      however, technical analysis, i can prove to you, literally show you technically, how i can separate good opportunities from bad. there is a catch, you need to make exceptions to your rule, and factor in the nuance of human fear and excitement.

    My trades begin with Sector and industry chart analysis, then stock, Mostly using a YTD% sort. if looks good, then I check macro economics and local economy and then do a fundamental drill up from stock up. I look for trending quarterly gains in fundamentals, good capital structure, financial health and liquidity, profitability drivers, idiosyncratic assessment, some ratios, good heavy institutional ownership and mostly only stocks going up long term and continuing to break 52 week high or all time highs. Usually I find I´m buying on a long term trend line at support levels after a pullback. Mostly do fine this way, I take few trades, usually 15 big trades per year with a portfolio of 6 long positions and 2 short. I tend to go for calls or puts deep in the money with deltas over 80 in a 3-6 month period.
    I´ve enjoyed this video and I feel thankful that I´m in the right direction of my methods or approach listening to you, so thanks to you, for adding more knowledge to my day and methodology. I´ve added some notes into my trade diary from your wisdom in this video. Always more to learn.

    Very good explanations of 'equity investment' philosophy: efficient market analysis.
    P.S. I watched Wachovia in Nov 2008 be the volume leader and go up 40% 2 days in a row. So I bought on the third day, it went up 40% again for 2 more days. Not to worry, I lost it all my gains investing in silver in 2011.

    BTW Patrick. I sold all my shares in Centrica yesterday, even though I am up 70% since investing in early 2020. When I read the news, it almost seems to say that all the smaller companies losing their clients to Centrica will make Centrica more valuable and hence the SP should go up. I think I was lucky making 70% and exited my positions on a feeling and nothing else. I could be wrong but I just had feeling they are going to screw everything up, even though things are being offered to them on a silver platter.

    Thank you very much for this content. Most of what I've seen on youtube was about TA (which, in my opinion, helps timing entries, but doesn't really tell anything about the investment).
    I've done some value investing, it's probably what I like to do best (appart for arbitrage but the opportunities for that are sparse).
    I've looked at a lot of companies in October, at their financials, the news,… Found $CSCO which really surprised me. I valued it at over twice where it was trading…
    Sure enough, a week or two after it was up by over 10%… And if it wasn't for fundamentals I'd probably have made the mistake to long $AAPL, god their financials were very deplorable.

    Quick question: didn't Benjamin Graham conclude that, himself included, value investing (his method) could not outperform growth investing overtime?

  • @Kier4n99
    @Kier4n99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't honestly mind that insiders get their information first. I don't think selling shares should be illegal if you're privy to upcoming announcements. But there should be an inherent limit to selling based on the total market cap or whatever other measure of the company. The action of insiders selling/buying before an event should not affect the share price over and above the usual volatility. If that value has been hit, insiders are not allowed to trade. So as not to affect the public who learn the information later on. Maybe this would be irrespective of the number of total shares owned by each individual insider, or maybe someone could only sell/buy a proportionate amount based on what they already own. First come, first serve?
    Not sure if that would work in practice though

      I’m not particularly into fundamentals so I don’t do it, I keep my money in index funds and invest a little using margin, options, and TA

    If you ask me technical analysis is looking for patterns in statistical noise..mostly useless

  • @amsalmeron
    @amsalmeron 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    On the topic of technical analysis, it is indeed really hard to find relevant material on-line and I'd argue that any pre-built strategy or system is useless (unless, of course, enough agents look and act based upon the same signal/data). The big issue here is that people are taught what to do and not how to think about technical analysis.
    There are no publicly known patterns *but* you can use certain sets of tools with different parameters to find phenomena that tends to generate positive expectancy over a *long series* of trades in a given asset. If you try and figure out what The Market (with capital letters) is going to do, based on price behavior, you're likely to get crushed. Rather, TA should focus on defining specific phenomena that repeats over time *despite* market conditions (which is possible, but is far different from what is generally taught).
    This implies using objective and quantifiable data (back testing, forward testing), which is far from using magic numbers like Fibonacci sequences or things like candlestick analyses, not to mention the complete disregard for in-depth volume analysis (which represents *actual* trading), volatility and how fundamentals (can) affect short- and mid-term market behavior.
    With that in mind, what a great course. I'm really glad you decided to put theses classes out here, I don't think most of us who are watching would have access to this kind of education if it were not for these videos. Cheers!

    I was a promising student, I won a scholarship in the best university in Italy. Then when I was there I met a lot of awful people that didn't let me study, they make fun of me and stole a lot of money from me. I got after that a lot of traumatic events, I spent almost 10 years recovering, I was hospitalized in psichiatry. Now I'm 35, I have passion about finance but the world think I'm too old, I can't invest by myself because I'll probably end up teaching which in Italy is paied 1400 $ a month which leaves me with nothing, all my friend earn a lot of money, they are uneducated but they for the most part don't pay taxes. Should I kill myself?

      Because the market prior to earnings had a different assumption about the direction of the company... earnings reports will always adjust the market's perception.
