    Notes:
Well, this kind of caps off my streak of one animation per week. It’s going to be past midnight when I post this, but hey, if you’re in California, I technically still got this out on Thursday, which means I get to count this one. Either way, there’s no shot I’m going to be able to get one out next week, so I think I’m happy finishing at 7 weeks of animations in a row. I was actually sure I wasn’t getting this out in time, but I got home at like 9, sat down and though “you know, I can finish this before midnight.’ and proved myself wrong after I grinded out the entire second half of this animation. But hey, I’m still pretty close.
Oh yeah. Eunie and Mio models! Huge, huge thanks to Xelandis (www.deviantart.com/xelandis) for posting both of them. I’ve been looking for one with a good rig for a while now, and had nearly given up hope when I stumbled across these. He’s got one up for Sena too, which is awesome. Again, huge thanks.
So the reason why I got this out so late wasn’t because this animation was so much more work or anything, it was just because I started something else, realized it was a very, very bad idea, then had to make this in like 4 days. It was an animation that had like 12 different models in it, and only after I had made a few idle poses and gotten everything set up did I realize that it was going to be so much more work than I thought it would be. I’m not sure if I ever plan on actually doing it, as the more I think about it the less enthused about it I am, but maybe one day.
I’m very pleased with this animation though. I’ve been watching Monty Oum again, so I’m been trying to do some more action recently. Mio’s movements are okay but not great, and they’re so fast that it’s hard to tell what’s going on besides a blur, which is good. Eunie’s gun strike looks really good, but it previously didn’t. I had a really boring camera angle at first that just didn’t work, so I changed it to a more active one and it works so much better. The way she slams her staff in the ground is super cool too. It’s not entirely authentic to the game, but she does plant her staff to put rings down, so that’s kinda neat.
The staff spin she does is really cool too. I had a ton of trouble getting it to spin on the right axis, but once I did it started coming together. Having two poses for Eunie and alternating between them helped to sell the momentum too. The slam was a bit difficult too. I had to make a couple interpolation frames to get her slamming at the angle I wanted. And the way the gun spins before shooting is both really cool, and also authentic to the game, as it does that when she uses Ether Canon. I love the little energy ball on the front of her gun. I added a noise modifier to it to give it that erratic shaking, which makes it look way cooler.
So the story was a bit hard to write here. I couldn’t really think of anything involving Eunie, Mio or Sena during the events of the game, so instead I just have Eunie and Mio fighting before the events of the game. You could argue that it could have potentially happened at some point before the game, but idk. So when Mio attacks the first time, I tried to signify that she destroyed Eunie’s weapon, by having the shower of sparks come out. So without her clock working, Eunie wouldn’t get Mio’s life force if she killed her, which is why she shrinks and captures Mio instead. Not sure if the whole broken weapon thing really came across in the animation without the written story to back it up.
So I experimented with some camera shake here. In the stuff I’ve been watching, they use camera shake all the time to sell hard impacts, so for things like when Mio strikes at Eunie, I added in a bit of shake to try and sell the impact. I think it worked pretty well. I feel like I could have added a bit more though.

Thanks. Sometimes it's difficult to find something to do after shrinking someone, so sticking them in a jar for safekeeping is a classic.
Usually I try to write stories when it feels like there's more depth that could be added in a written format. Not everything needs a story, but it usually helps when I have one.
