Lots of good Japanese food around Crows Nest/Neutral Bay in Sydney too. Just a short trip from the city with the new Metro that opened up. The same people who run NAKANO DARLING have a building in crows nest with 3 different restaurants on top of each other. Yakitori Yurippi, Ramen Auru(Vending machine Ramen) and Ichiro's (a rooftop Izakaya Sports bar).
I'm so glad you found some authentic tasting Japanese food to enjoy in Sydney, Shinichi. I always think it speaks volumes about a food scene when one can find non-native cuisines done well. I love that you introduced us to local TH-camrs Tee and Phoebe. I'll check out their channels for sure. Love you. 💜
actually, there's no defined traditional foods in Australia...... if you go to any modern Australian restaurants and cafes, there are Asian fusion dishes on the menu....
I've been in Sydney for 7 years now but I'm a homebody so I don't go out often. Your videos have really helped me navigate this city that I have since called home. Thank you!
Happy to see you back in Sydney! In the same place as Momiji, we always go to Conveni8, a Japanese convenience store- right before entry to Woolies if you are entering from Pitt St entrance)- they sell really good onigiri and buns at very reasonable price, really nice varieties of drinks too. My son and I always stop by there whenever we are in the city area, me for my onigiri and buns and him for his senbei. The lovely Japanese lady owner always greeting us warmly.
Nice to see you back in Australia! 🇦🇺 Yesterday, we spent my birthday following your recommendations on your video about Cheap eats under $10 in the Sydney CBD, and we love the Matcha honeycomb, Marrickville pork bun, bread and pork buns in Chinatown! 💕
I’m a Sydney local and live in the city and LOVE Japanese food! Regents Park has great Japanese desserts but there are really great ones up at the galeries too - Japanese food, desserts and cakes there are bomb!
Welcome to Sydney, its always heart warming to see others coming to review our places and quite frankly, I already see a few places I would be trying out next time :)
Oh Shinichi, hello stranger. I am so pleased you are experiencing one aspect of good to know international cuisine of Sydney We are blessed here and I am currently in Tapei as needed to escape the chaos of home&the convenience stores in Tapei have more options than Korea. So many cuisines to try in SYD and we like taking our taste buds around the world and happy you experienced what Sydney is about. I hope you return with Satoshi ❤
Oh thank you so much Shinichi, this was a great video to watch and so much delicious looking food and so exciting that it was so good in a different place than Japan. Have a great day, sending love and hugs, bye!! 💜💜💜💜💜
I am in Melbourne, I love Japanese restaurants here but never been to Sydney to try it out. Thank you for this video guys, the food looks incredible. Love the strawberry sando it looks really yummy, I need to try one of those out here.
The food court where Momoji is located was one of my go to lunch time venues. It is reasonably priced for Sydney CBD (yes Sydney it is pricey). Just a stones throw away from Town Hall station.
Sandochi genuinely broke my heart the last two times I visited. Egg sando was unseasoned, no sauce and just thrown into a takeaway box and thrown at me. Literally just lazy scrambled eggs leaking from two differently cut pieces of bread. A friends salmon dish was also horribly “cooked” then she was lectured by the kitchen staff about how it is cooked “normally”…despite it being her favourite dish and she already knows how it was supposed to be served. Hope they have improved since, they *used* to be great. You missed what is the best Katsu place in Australia; Miso. If you’re still around head to works square, you won’t be disappointed. ❤
I admit all this food looks great. I’m a Sydney native and I’m not familiar with any of these places. I suspect they are all new. Sydney is notorious for restaurants opening and quickly closing again with in one to two years. Rent is just way too high. You need to come back in two years time and check on these places to see if they are still there. Now if you want to try Japanese that is well and truly loved by Sydney siders then try Zushi on crown in Surry hills, been there for ten years or more. I’ve eaten there dozens of times and it’s beautiful every time. Best gyozas in Sydney. I’m pretty sure they have a sister restaurant down at Barangaroo too but I’ve not eaten there.
I really enjoy watching you shinichi try our Sydney foods!!!! And yes I have tried many of them places and the ramen u had is one of my favourites it’s so good hey!!!! 👍🏻😊 Also momiji is cheap but too oiled up I agreed with you!!! Please return again!!!! ✌🏻
Great video I really enjoyed watching it, you should come to Melbourne next time you’re in Australia experience our food culture , theatre scene and everything Melbourne has to offer that is different to Sydney in our multi cultural city and surrounding suburbs.
I’m a local and travel back forth to Tokyo and Seoul. Parami is a great pick up. Shinichi, next visit go to one of these 10: - Fuji Bakery old school - Azuki Bakery new school - Yakitori Yurippi yakitori izakaya - Chaco Ramen - Haco Tempura Omakase - Nomidokoro Indigo izakaya with sake range - Atsushi sushi omakase set - Toriciya casual izakaya - Sashimi Shinsengumi sashimi set and takeaway - Tobikiri lunch casual simple Japanese food
Australia is a western country, it's cheap compared to places like England and America, expensive compared to Asia. All these places are located in the central business district where the rents are like Ginza/Shibuya, they can't be cheap....
I am so glad you made it back to Australia! My last trip to Sydney I had oyakodon at Momiji and it was delicious but i couldnt eat it all (would be perfect to share between 2 as a takeaway at the nearby park). Now I will be trying all the rest of your recommendations. I hope one day you and Satoshi can see more of Australia.
So glad you were happy with the Japanese food places in Sydney 👍 Australians take food, drinks and coffee REALLY seriously 😁 Sydney CBD prices are astonishing though 😮 (Bargain burger place excepted)
This video made me both happy and hopeful. My Japanese parents raised me in the US but experienced WWII and the 20's and Billy Smith when there was intense mutual hatred, and I cannot believe how things have reversed; there are so many Australian tourists in Japan who keep returning, Australia is a favorite destination for Japanese now. I love international friendship. Also, I think living in Japan has helped Shinichi--I have been irritated when you speak Japanese well but then say "oni-giri" which is a common American mistake, it should be "o-Ni-giri". I read in an English school text that Japanese is unaccented but that is totally wrong, and people typically place emphasis to make clear the written meaning. Oni-giri sounds like devil killing or devil clipper. But there are exceptions--the greeting "TADAI-ma" is invariably pronounced this way, all over Japan, when written out it should be "tada-ima" which actually means just now.
It depends on the context as to how you pronounce words. I learnt Japanese at school and uni, including studying abroad in Japan. If I am talking to a Japanese person of course I try my best Japanese pronunciation. But if I am talking to someone who only speaks English, then I will say Japanese words deliberately with the “wrong” pronunciation so they understand better. I believe Shinichi’s “mispronunciation” of Japanese words is only when he’s speaking in English to a largely English-speaking audience, so he’s saying it in a way they will understand better - versus mixing perfect Japanese pronunciation with English which can sound odd, unnatural or even snobby to native English speakers.
I lived in Sydney for over 30 years, and never knew about these places. Granted, some of them are probably fairly recent. Next visit to Sydney, I'll be trying these. If you are ever back in Sydney, and want some good SE Asian cuisine, I suggest taking a train out to Cabramatta. I used to live in Liverpool, and loved visiting Cabra (as we locals call it...the polite slang name) for some bahn mi, congee, trung chien, and of course, some of the best pho in Sydney.
Welcome back to Sydney. Two places I can recommend is Origami Cafe located Flinders St in Darlinghurst. Simple bit good Japanese. The lady is nice. Secondly, on the north shore Ken-chan Curry,Neutral Bay has great curry.
You need to come back for another visit. Lots of Japanese restaurants and migrants north of the harbour. Crows Nest and Neutral Bay and even Chatswood are great. I highly recommend the chicken karaage sando from Sandoitchi
i love izakaya havnt gone in a while we have some in hawaii its a place where u can eat a variety of different dishes rather than one huge meal i dont have any fav dish they all are good
As an Australian, I have to apologise for the price of food here. Our wages are quite high, which means all food is very expensive. We rarely go out any more because of the cost.
. I live in a high cost area too - Bay Area Ca. What is interesting is that your higher wages do not quite cover eating out. This must be very challenging for the restaurants. It’s great that there still are so many!
I think Finland is similar to Australia in terms of living expenses, even though the average salaries are higher there. The prices there make up for the difference. We'd go bankrupt if we hopped from place to place at weekends and ate out like he does. One beer here already costs 10 euros! It took me a while to stop feeling guilty about snacking like this in Japan however. My brain couldn’t comprehend how much high-quality food we ate for so little money. We could never do this in Helsinki-especially since, even though we pay much much more here, the quality is often disappointing,if not shameful.
Love your work mate but please go a couple extra stops past Central Station to Newtown. Really, only 13 minutes from Wynyard or ~15 from Circular Quay. LBGT capital and lots of fun food.
I’ll need to check some of these out. I’m a hafu from Hawaii but living in Syd for 10 years. I’ve had some really good Japanese food but also lots of 💩 Japanese food here 😅 I usually find a lot of Japanese places here are usually run by Chinese or Koreans and sorry not sorry, it makes a difference.
japanese food here in Australia is very expensive. It is also often either really bad, or some over complicated reimagining of it (like quinoa gyoza)... often doesn't have that Japanese vibe either. there are some great cafes in Melbourne though .. oh and a few places to get snacks, groceries and canned coffee. let me know if you're doing Melbourne
Bro the prices are ludicrous, I am Australian and live in Japan, Jesus Christ looks like I'm not going home 1000 yen for Gyoza unbelievable, 1800 yen for Karage Bro even in Ginza is cheaper.
Japanese is only one of many authentic cuisines in Sydney.... you can find the best in most of Asian and European foods here..... hope you + Satoshi can stay longer next time
What do you mean by you had enough miles for only one person to come to Sydney? I don't understand. You rested much more than 15 minutes before your next meal for night had fallen lol.
I live in Sydney and I need a TH-camr from Japan to tell me where the good food is in Sydney 😂 thank you for coming!! 🤤
same! I've been to the Galleries a bunch of times and now I'm gonna be making a beeline for that cheesecake omg
I was thinking the same thing! I'm definitely going to try all those places.
Lots of good Japanese food around Crows Nest/Neutral Bay in Sydney too. Just a short trip from the city with the new Metro that opened up.

Great to hear your reviews in Sydney, where I live, I shall follow your recommendations. Cheers Graham

Thanks so much! This was totally enlightening…….i adore Japanese food and this has been so helpful. Onigiri tasting soon. 😊
I love that you found something that made you go "umai!" .
I really really wish my health would let me eat such amazing food! But, I can live vicariously through you both. ❤
Welcome to Sydney, its always heart warming to see others coming to review our places and quite frankly, I already see a few places I would be trying out next time :)

OMG you stumbled upon the place under my work! DELICIOUS food and I love their tonkatsu ramen.
Also, next time, you have to pop over the Bridge to Crows Nest - our little Japan! It's where I live :D
Ohhh definitely!!!!!

- Nomidokoro Indigo izakaya with sake range
- Atsushi sushi omakase set

I recommend you try Besuto omakase
Thanks for the suggestions!

Great Japanese food tour bro, added some to itinerary 🤙
Hey!! Welcome to Australia, hoping you guys are enjoying it
RISING SUN WORKSHOP (also known as RSW). By far this is the best ramen in Australia - and I've eaten them all.
The first one is behind the Town Hall Woolworths. I had many lunchs here when I worked in the city and was great for cheap eats
This video made me both happy and hopeful. wowowow satoshi is missing out keke
Will definitely try that rice sandwich
I go to Tenkomori in Regent Place whenever I'm in the city. I love their tonkotsu broth and usually get a side serving of takoyaki.

Some of my favourite ramen shops in Sydney are Genki in Artarmon, Yasaka in Town Hall, Mappen (Town Hall) and Gumshara in Chinatown
imo the quality of Genki came down in the last 10 years..... and i'll have Gumshara over Yasaka anyday as the head chef there used to work @ Gumshara
Was thinking of planning a trip to Sydney next year (never been before). After this, im no longer thinking. Im actively planning 😂
How great is nakano darling , i usually go there once every couple months (great food and staff 🤘🏻🇦🇺🇯🇵🤘🏻

Might be more cost effective to try local foods rather than looking for Japanese food. Not sure, Australia is very cosmopolitan

It’s also that Australia is a relatively low population and kind of out of the way which makes shipping expensive.
That cute restaurant you eat breakfast at closed now 😢

You need to try Gumshara best Ramen in Sydney
Yummy 😘😘❤️🥰🤩😍🌈🌹💯🙏
Nothing in north Sydney? I know inner city has a lot but north Sydney has its official designation of Japan town in Artarmon
Next time try Melbourne 😊

You missed out by not going to IIKO Mazesoba
You forgot Gumshara if you Haven’t been
Pre covid that little Asian food court was packed full of people. For me it is a little sad to see how empty it is now.
Where are u from? American accent !Great vid! Did you get to mensho in Syd?
can you do a full vlog in japanese!
And you could do a colab with the chonnyday TH-camrs who are Melbourne based.
Tenacious is korean!
better bring back some snacks for poor Satoshi
Kettle chips
Genuinely embarassed that I live here and have only tried Nakano 😶🌫
Price here is 3-5 times of Japan or more..... 😅😅😅 Did you try Mogu Mogu onigiri?
I hope you and Satoshi are doing okay. I care more about your mental and physical health. I love your videos.
Wow. Those prices.... You would have to be rich to enjoy Sydney

with the exchange rate, trip to japan is so cheap

poor sattochi
Why always Sydney?
7 dollars for matcha latte??? Yikes!
That tempura looks so stodgy , "japanese"places can be so disappointing due to the lack of skill and care which is cultural and mostly not imported .
Now than 2 dollars for a piece of fried chicken?? Yikes!
Dead set what a waste of time and money for you. @tabieats why not try a kangaroo, emu or crocodile burger or at least some local cuisine.
Something is off about the thumbnail pic. Very disconcerting. 🤷🏽♂️
There is no authentic Japanese food in Sydney.
I live in Sydney and I missed eating at Mr Morimoto's in Surry Hills back 20/30 years ago.
NEXT BIG TRIP FOR 2, YOU SHOULD TRY GOING TO AUSTRIA
Welcome to Australia guys 😊
Why do people love Japanese food so much? It really isn’t that amazing.
