It's interesting that the first two Pumpkins songs you've done are among their mellowest. This band was known for going HARD! "I Am One", "Zero", "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Cherub Rock" are some of the songs that represent their sound more accurately. Jay will appreciate those.
The Pumpkins rock heavy. They’ve just done the wrong songs as their first two. Try anything off Siamese Dream & J will love it. Cherub Rock needs to be their next song.
To me, this is just a total VIBE song. Cranking up the volume with headphones on and closing your eyes and just feeling it. The drum work is unbelievable. I love this song. Quintessential 90s.
Always brings on feelings of joy/happiness/nostalgia.. Was 7 yrs old when this album came out. Got to grow up in one of the best time periods for music. #90's #vibes #amazing #MellonCollie&TheInfiniteSadness 👍🎶🤟😭❤️💯
I agree, but also the music video is such a beautiful tribute to old movies and it's so well done that I think is woth watching it, especially if you are a cinema nerd
“Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and “Today” always remind me of my high school days. You should check those two songs out. I think Jordan would like “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” as it’s more upbeat and rocking in sound.
I swear on my momma I was just about to suggest "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and "Today." They are my two favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs, and the two that I think Jordan would like the most. I also feel like BWBW was the song that won over a lot of people who weren't fans before, so I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't like it. Some people are saying Zero which I forgot about. He might like that one too.
Meloncoly and the Infinite Sadness is one of the best double albums. This song had so many innovative sounds. Smashing Pumpkins is considered Alt Rock. Today is one of my favorite songs of there's. The video is inspired by the silent film A Trip To The Moon.
Yes! I've never seen this video, but watching it I thought "This reminds me of the silent film by the French director that I saw in film class in college." Thanks for confirming.
Amber, I’m calling it now. BULLET WITH BUTTERFLY WINGS and ZERO are the two that might bring Your boy over to the Pumpkins. More fast paced, more rock driven, more in your face, more raw. Give those two a listen 👍 (Also, day whatever of requesting another look at Queensryche!)
What specific type does he not like? Alternative? Grunge? There's other types he could try, there's Daft Punk, Gorillaz, there's singer-songwriters like Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Natalie Imbruglia, Shania Twain, there's R&B like Janet Jackson, TLC, Boyz 2 Men, there's divas like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, there's rap metal like Rage Against The Machine, Beastie Boys.
@@One.Zero.One101He seems to like more rock music. He mentioned you can't tap your foot to this, that's probably because this song is more orchestral.
Smashing Pumpkins is an alternative rock band. This song is from 1996, it went to #36 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song. The music video was inspired by the 1902 Georges Mélès silent film "A Trip to the Moon". Amber You and I have very similar taste in music, I love the look on Jay's face when the song started like "What the Hell is this". LOL.
I’m so glad you’re reacting to the Smashing Pumpkins! This video was on MTV all the time around 95/96. One of the biggest alternative rock bands of the 90s. They have so many great songs. Try “Cherub Rock”, “Today”, “Mayonnaise “, “Bullet with butterfly wings”, “zero”…I could go on and on. Saw them in concert last November for my birthday, it was amazing.
There's no way that Disarm is their biggest commercial hit. And I know that even though it's my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song. Bullet with Butterfly Wings, 1979, Today, Tonight Tonight, all of those were way bigger commercial hits than Disarm.
As a 46 year old who was a kid in the 80's and a teen in the 90's ,(which I believe was the best time to grow up ever!!!!). These songs you react to are more than just songs. My generation has emotions and memories and life experiences wrapped up in all these songs! You guys don't get transported back in time like we do. Smashing Pumpkins is a great band. This song was popular when I graduated high school!
I was a 17 year old senior in high school when Gish came out and 19 when Siamese Dream came out and I was absolutely hooked. One of my favorite bands ever.
44 myself - and your comment made me reflect on the fact that while my wife and I always talk of our love of the 80s, man... the 90s was when we were really switching on musically. So many memories that I've not reflected on in ages.
It's a great song and video, in my opinion. I loved it the first time I heard it. Cinema fans instantly recognize this video is a homage to the French silent film _A Trip to the Moon_ from 1902, over 120 freakin' years ago.
I’m convinced that Amber in particular would become a huge Pearl Jam fan if y’all checked out more. She’d fit in with those of us who travel around seeing as many shows as humanly possible.
both like every song from every genre and every decade... or you can name me only 1 song, they dont like...? for all that big money they earn with this, i can expect more as only ever the same: yeah, great, i like that song, and i really heared that song never before... because every famous song they ever listen on youtube was their first time... how is that possible...?
Their song "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" would be more to Jay's liking. The line "in spite of my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage" is one of the greatest lines in rock history.
My favourites are 1979, Disarm, this one followed by Bullet With Butterfly Wings. I agree Jay will probably like that one more. I'd go discover Arcade Fire and Sigur Rós from here, but Jay may not like any.
It seems more and more that Amber understands the greatness of artists that aren’t conventional. To each his own but this song is a masterpiece and Rob doesn’t get it AT ALL.
Just to clarify.....the reactors are Jordan (Jay) and Amber Robinson. The Rob Squad is taken from the Robinson surname. And I agree that Amber is much more perceptive especially regarding lyrics. Jordan focusses on the vibe. They are a sweet couple though
I probably not their biggest fan, but this is a great song. You already reacted to "1979" which I also thought was great. For the hard rockers out there, I suggest "Cherub Rock."
"Tonight, Tonight" is one of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs. Just because it DID seem so unique and different compared to their other work. The addition of the backing orchestra and that rolling snare just did it for me. I can see why someone who likes "Groove-based" music wouldn't care for it, but I really liked this one...
They're one of the best bands in the whole world, still I must say that people tend to misuse the word "underrated". Pumpkins were hailed as "the new Nirvana" when they released their first two albums (much to their dismay) and Mellon Collie has sold more than ten million copies in the US alone, and all from gold to four times platinum in the rest of the world, and remain one of the big 90:s rock bands. Of course, one could argue that they're good enough to be among the best selling bands of all time, which they aren't, but I at least wouldn't personally brand them massively underrated.
@@Istrexcuse me "They aren't good enough to be a best selling band", are you serious right now? These are all artists that sold way more records than smashing pumpkins. The exquisite pop craftsmanship of that left handed pop genius JUSTIN BIEBER. I could go an on and on, but I think you get my point, clearly these artists are on a whole other level of musicianship as compared to smashing pumpkins 😂
This is easily my favorite SP song. I could float on those strings and stay grounded by the bass forever. I’ve never tired of this. SP might not be a band for you, but they can also be an acquired taste. I’m sure it’s hard for you to listen on repeat with how busy you are on your channel, though! Thanks for your honesty.
This song would make more sense to you if you listened to the album. This is basically the intro to the full journey they take you on. The album is filled with songs of reflection and angst. One of the best of the 90’s in my opinion.
Good point. The full album is a double set, called "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness", and harkens back to the full-album rock operas of the '70s. So, more than most, the song's position in the context of the album lends it a lot of extra meaning. It's not necessary in order to appreciate the song, of course, but it's a nice bonus.
This music video won MTV’s Video of the Year award for 1996. As other commenters have pointed out, the video was a tribute to one of the earliest films to feature special effects/sci-fi elements. Smashing Pumpkins started out more on the grunge side but also branched out into more lofty artistic notes as with this track.
Smashing Pumpkins were a unique, artistic band with their own sound. It was a band that you either loved or didn't like much. Their sound isn't for everyone.
This song (& video) has a bit of everything: drama, melody, fantasy, psychedelia, nonsense & meaning. Enjoyed watching your reactions to something that was highly digable back in the day.
If you're on a 90s ride right now, you definitely need to listen to more Oasis and hear their Beatles influence. Also I recommend other great British bands from that era - Pulp, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Prodigy and Suede.
oh man, the Pumpkins were so great. so creative, so rockin'... they deserve more of your time, Jay. like the others have said, Bullet with Butterfly Wings might change your opinion. Melancholy was *such* a great album.
The video is based on the 1902 movie "A Trip to the Moon". That is not a misprint.... 1902. It was a massive leap forward in the development of movie making.
The two tracks you've done of the Pumpkins are both from one of their more artsy, florid albums. Check out some stuff from their first album, Gish, and their second, Siamese Dream. They are a '90s band that creatively mixes artsy alternative with the kind of heavy classic rock that I think Jay likes better. And there's more of the heavy rock vibe in their earlier albums.
The 90's were about trying to break the mainstream uniformity and play more actual instruments, no voice changer, raw real music. That's what was on the alternative stations. Folk/Indie/Grunge was all a departure from the Machine. And it was glorious. ✨
actually this whole double album is considered a masterpiece and should be listen as a whole !!! I absolutely love THEM and video is a tribute hommage to silent cinema and french director Georges MELIES
🎃 Thanks Y'all!!! I 🧡The Smashing Pumpkins! Please react to their song 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings' and the band 🖤My Chemical Romance 'The Black Parade' -Original video is epic!
Love this song, love this video. My favorite album of theirs is "Siamese Dream." By the way, have you reacted to any songs by Garbage yet? They got their start in the '90s. "Stupid Girl" and "Bleed Like Me" are two of my favorites by them.
Dear J., "Zero" is the SP song you're looking for. Dear Amber, The entire "Mellon Collie..." album awaits! With your having enjoyed the two cuts you've heard, I think that album could be a treasure trove for you. My choice for the 90s greatest rock album. Hope y'all enjoy!
"Bullet With Butterfly Wings" might be more of Jay's style. The Smashing Pumpkins were IT when I was in high school. I saw them live my junior year, 1997, and they were incredible.
Just wanted to say I look forward each week to seeing you two experience the love of songs I grew up with as a teen in the 80's and beyond. I have listened to many reactors, I only now Subscribe to 1, ya'll! Don't change. 😊
Poor Jay, we've thrown him in the deep end introducing Smashing Pumpkins through "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" 😂 I feel like we need to dial it back a bit and introduce him to some songs from the previous albums, "Siamese Dream" and "Gish", which I reckon he'd love. In fact when you get a chance, listen to the entirety of the "Siamese Dream" album. Songs I'd highly recommend "Cherub Rock", "Rocket", "Today", "Geek USA", "Rhinoceros", "I Am One", and "Siva". Also "Slunk" from the "Lull" EP.
Amber, if you like the look of this, there's so much more to it worth checking out, the inspirations & adaptations, whether reacted to or viewed on your own. The video takes inspiration from French filmmaker Georges Méliès "La Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip To The Moon)", an adaptation of Jules Verne's novels "From The Earth To The Moon" & "Around The Moon". Melies is also portrayed as a lead character in a film you definitely should see, Martin Scorcese's 2011 film "Hugo", an adaptation of children's historical fiction novel "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" by Brian Selznick.
‘Ava Adore’ is a weirder song of theirs but with an addictive beat and a dark atmosphere I am sure Amber would enjoy. The official video of the song is cool.
This album was HUGE when it came out. This song and video are so creative and stunning. The symphony!! Not my favorite of theirs but I really really appreciate it. Just avoid their cover of Landslide. Dreadful.
This used to be my favorite band and this used to be my favorite song by them. They are from Chicago and the orchestra on this song is the Chicago Symphony. I’ve seen then twice in Chicago and when Billy sings the lyric “And the embers never fade, in your city by the lake, the place where you were born” everyone goes wild. Billy has said the song is about his life growing up, with a lot of moving around, uncertainty, and unfortunately physical and emotional abuse and neglect. As others have mentioned this album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, was one of the best albums of the 90s. Billy Corgan’s voice, while distinctly Smashing Pumpkins, isn’t for everyone though. He’s very gifted musically (and an underrated guitar player, imo) but even he says his voice isn’t his forte. This video won a Grammy back in 1996 I believe. Stylistically, it is very much late-90s. I think this style, with the vintage feel and dark celestial themes is called “whimsigoth” nowadays. I don’t know, but I was ALL about it back in the day and still kinda am. I feel like the best way to describe the style is very Stevie Nicks meets grunge-we were like the hippie chicks of the 90s. Like Phoebe from friends. I was pretty sure Jay wouldn’t like this song but think Jay would enjoy “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” or “Siva,” and Amber would enjoy “Disarm.” I also think maybeeee the 90s overall aren’t Jay’s decade, musically. Which is okay lol… it took me years to get into a lot of 70s music, and I think the 90s are to you guys what the 70s were to me.
This was my husband's and my first dance song after we were married. "Believe in me as I believe in you" still brings me to tears. For a more rocking Smashing Pumpkins, you definitely should try "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", "Cherub Rock", and "The Everlasting Gaze"!
Was hoping someone would bring this up. If you love movies, you owe it to yourself to see Georges Méliès' "Le voyage dans la lune" (A Trip to the Moon) at least once in your life, a short (10 minutes or so) but iconic, pioneering narrative film you can find right here on TH-cam.
One of the most radical drum fills you’ll hear in a song… it’s a quiet song but the drums are so technically unbelievable!! Go watch a TH-cam video of someone doing a drum cover of this song… you’ll understand the demanding skill it takes to pull off the drumming passes in this song!
You've already reacted to my favourite SP song (1979) but I also really like The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning. It is one of the finest superhero soundtrack songs along with U2's Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me.
"Tonight, Tonight" was the 7th charted single on the Billboard Hot 100 by Smashing Pumpkins, peaking @ #36 in 1996. Their highest charting Hot 100 single (and best, IMO) was "1979" peaking @ #12 in 1996.
Smashing Pumpkins are my favorite band. The Pumpkins music just completley resonated with me in the mid 90's when I was a teen. Its conveys so many emotions: love, beauity, sadness, anger and everything inbetween! The 90's was a very raw and emotional decade of music. Please keep reacting to them, as others stated for more pure rock sound I would check out "Zero", "Cherub Rock", "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Mayoneyse", and a later personal favorite of mine off their Ocieana album: "Inkless"
sounds like my boy is more a Bullet with Butterfly Wings kinda guy than a Mayonaise kinda guy regarding pumpkins. would recommend Bullet to see if they have anythimg for ya.
90s songs you’d love: Third Eye Blind- Semi Charmed Life, Fuel- Hemorrhage in my hands, Mighty Mighty Bosstones- Impression that I get, and Dave Matthews Band- Stay(Wasting Time)
I’ve loved the song for decades and never saw the video. I think it overwhelms things. The song on good headphones and your eyes closed is really an awesome listen

If you're on a 90s ride right now, you definitely need to listen to more Oasis and hear their Beatles influence. Also I recommend other great British bands from that era - Pulp, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Prodigy and Suede.
I saw them at a small
Club in the Pittsburgh strip district in 1999 ❤ Got autographs thru the tour bus window. I miss those days….
oh man, the Pumpkins were so great. so creative, so rockin'... they deserve more of your time, Jay. like the others have said, Bullet with Butterfly Wings might change your opinion. Melancholy was *such* a great album.
Try Zero… Jay will love it! ❤️
@@foreveralone11w oh yeah, Zero for sure. that's what Jay's looking for!
Are so great, they are still releasing music
The drumming on this is so fucking amazing.
The video is based on the 1902 movie "A Trip to the Moon". That is not a misprint.... 1902. It was a massive leap forward in the development of movie making.
The way he sounds when he sings, I feel like this is Uncle Fester's rock band.
There is a group form 90s: Rednex "cotton eye joe" - I think you all would enjoy that one.
This is such a simple problem to solve. React to "Zero" and/or "Bullet with Butterfly Wings". Jay will be on board with the Pumpkins immediately.
One of my favourite bands of all time
Ya boy J needs to persist
Favorite of the 90’s!
If you end up watching the 2011 movie "Hugo" you will appreciate the video more because the movie talked about French filmmaker George Melies.
The 90's were about trying to break the mainstream uniformity and play more actual instruments, no voice changer, raw real music. That's what was on the alternative stations. Folk/Indie/Grunge was all a departure from the Machine. And it was glorious. ✨
The video is based on the 1902 movie "A Trip To The Moon" by Georges Méliès. It truly is a a loving homage to such a seminal film.
Amber gets it😁. Smashing Pumpkins are one of my all time favorites. Try Ava Adore or Eye if you want a beat. For a straight rocker, try Cherub Rock ✌️
actually this whole double album is considered a masterpiece and should be listen as a whole !!! I absolutely love THEM and video is a tribute hommage to silent cinema and french director Georges MELIES
seen em live twice! most recently they had the original members. they put on a great show
Except D’arcy 😕
Absolutely epic! Great song and music video
🎃 Thanks Y'all!!! I 🧡The Smashing Pumpkins! Please react to their song 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings' and the band 🖤My Chemical Romance 'The Black Parade' -Original video is epic!
-#cheers-- !-
YES A MILLION TIMES TO WELCOME YO THE BLACK PARADE!!! I watch every reaction to that video that I can!
@@DontDrinkTheLuminol 🖤 that song!
If Jay wants rockin, Bullet With Butterfly Wings is one of the hardest rockin jams.
Love this song, love this video. My favorite album of theirs is "Siamese Dream." By the way, have you reacted to any songs by Garbage yet? They got their start in the '90s. "Stupid Girl" and "Bleed Like Me" are two of my favorites by them.
I have been suggesting Garbage and Veruca Salt! ❤️
Dear J.,
"Zero" is the SP song you're looking for.
Dear Amber,
The entire "Mellon Collie..." album awaits! With your having enjoyed the two cuts you've heard, I think that album could be a treasure trove for you.
My choice for the 90s greatest rock album.
Hope y'all enjoy!
J i think you would like there faster stuff a little more, maybe Bullet with Butterfly wings or Eye.
"Bullet With Butterfly Wings" might be more of Jay's style. The Smashing Pumpkins were IT when I was in high school. I saw them live my junior year, 1997, and they were incredible.
Can’t wait for Mayonaise now… or Disarm? Lots of goodies with this group.
I see what J’s is saying, but this is why Amber is the ⭐️ She has this talent to see in-depth. Y’all are the best.
Drown from the Singles soundtrack is great too.
I was also going to suggest watching Hugo or even better, reading the book, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” with the girls.
I find it difficult to trust someone that doesn't like The Smashing Pumpkins. 🤣😂
LOVE the Smashing Pumpkins!
‘Ava Adore’ is a weirder song of theirs but with an addictive beat and a dark atmosphere I am sure Amber would enjoy. The official video of the song is cool.
I agree! 😎👍
This album was HUGE when it came out. This song and video are so creative and stunning. The symphony!! Not my favorite of theirs but I really really appreciate it.
Just avoid their cover of Landslide. Dreadful.
Agreed.
This song is a swooning, dreamy ode to love. Those strings!
Next up for Smashing Pumpkins should be their cover of Landslide!
Day 90 in a row requesting:
Arctic monkeys - when the sun goes down
"Mayonnaise" is one of my favorites that no else seems to be mentioning. Check it out!
smashing pumpkins
* the end is the beginning is the end
* the beginning is the end is the beginning
This was my husband's and my first dance song after we were married. "Believe in me as I believe in you" still brings me to tears.
For a more rocking Smashing Pumpkins, you definitely should try "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", "Cherub Rock", and "The Everlasting Gaze"!
I love the "A TRIP TO THE MOON" (1902) feel. 👍👍👍
@@tbjfsu Kinda off topic but watching UNDERWORLD now
Always loved the vibe and melody of this song! Just so dreamy. Such a great band with so many other songs you can really rock out to.
One of the most radical drum fills you’ll hear in a song… it’s a quiet song but the drums are so technically unbelievable!! Go watch a TH-cam video of someone doing a drum cover of this song… you’ll understand the demanding skill it takes to pull off the drumming passes in this song!
Chamberlain is an awesome drummer. He does not get the attention he deserves.
You've already reacted to my favourite SP song (1979) but I also really like The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning. It is one of the finest superhero soundtrack songs along with U2's Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me.
One of the best and most versatile bands of all time!!
You should try 'Today' - it's one of their earlier songs and it's pretty good.
This is sorta goth rock of the 90s. I love it, but it does take a creative soul.
My sons understood, I do now.
sounds like my boy is more a Bullet with Butterfly Wings kinda guy than a Mayonaise kinda guy regarding pumpkins. would recommend Bullet to see if they have anythimg for ya.
Jimmy Chamberlin’s drumming drives all Pumkin’s tunes. So good.
Y'all should listen to Cherub Rock. Excellent example of that Smashing Pumpkins guitar sound.
90s songs you’d love: Third Eye Blind- Semi Charmed Life, Fuel- Hemorrhage in my hands, Mighty Mighty Bosstones- Impression that I get, and Dave Matthews Band- Stay(Wasting Time)
I love this group. My favorite 90’s group.
Nostalgia is strong with this one....makes me ponder days from my teens that are LONGGG gone. So much time and life between this period and today.
The drums seem so simple, but for me they make the whole song.
Three drummers I seem to remember?
Smashing Pumpkins was a popular band in the 90's
The honesty is what keeps it real! Great reaction I'm glad you are still doing music reactions
I’ve loved the song for decades and never saw the video. I think it overwhelms things. The song on good headphones and your eyes closed is really an awesome listen
Jay, they had the best drummer of Alternative rock history. Go with Jellybelly. You’ll hear how hard they could go.
He wrote some great songs fun to sing along with. I think Muzzle is my favorite. Very grungy with great lyrics.
Muzzle doesn’t get enough love for sure
