As a part-time supervisor to package handlers at UPS, it is very important to me to get to know my loaders. What do they do on their spare time, where do they see themselves in 1-5 years, what are their goals in the future. When you get to know your employees, not only can you see how well they work, but you can create relationships with them that can ultimately better your life as well as theirs, and then they will want to work for you and do better for UPS. A supervisor can make or break an employee, defining the morale and expectations of their employees while executing the goals and aspirations of the company.
Exactly my supervisor is the reason I want to quit now , after 1 month 😂I’m a preloader , but he’s been having me unload the trucks every since I got there. Just because I’m good at it smh.
@@almightywalk that’s a good thing man. You’re reliable and good at your job. That is something I really like in my employees. If you want to stick with UPS, you have a good chance to move up in the company and become supervisor. Showing initiative and being good at your job is how your boss can vouch for you. It sucks, but it’s very good, please keep it up
@@Elbanjomon I understand , but at the end of the day we are all human and at some point we break. I almost fainted & had to leave early last week while throwing a truck. And all my supervisor could say was “you good?” “are you coming back?” He has me throwing 3-4 trucks DAILY with another guy and if he’s not there I’m on my own. He expects us to deliver everyday since we’ve got there. They even told us whenever they hire new people we come out of the trailers but they’ve hired 3 more people since and we’re still in the same spot and they’re preloading. It’s not fair, at least rotate us. My supervisor even said one of the new guys looks like he’s 10 yrs old so he hasn’t been called in much just because of that.
I’ve been at UPS for just over 2 years now. I started as a “package handler” early morning preload and just recently got a promotion to “customer counter clerk” working in the front office. My ultimate goal is to become a driver. The insurance benefits are amazing! My wife and I have medical, dental, and vision insurance through Blue Cross and Blue Shield that is 100% payed by the company. I get all holidays off with pay and 1 week of vacation and 1 week of option days. I do doordash when I’m off from UPS for about 2 hours and then 1 full day on the weekends. We pay all of our bills and are able to put some into savings and stocks also. I definitely recommend UPS especially to the younger guys and women wanting to start a career!
I appreciate your straightforward review of the UPS package handler position. No frills, no thrills! I think your video will really help folks make a beneficial decision as to whether they sign on. Thank you for keeping it real!
I've been working for UPS for a couple of weeks now and I've noticed that most people that are busting their asses is because they deinitely suffer from anxiety. I have not had a single supervisor tell me that I'm too slow. I take my time to see the label and put it in the right belt (Sorting), if I'm unloading a truck I make sure I set the package so the laser can scan it and the sorters can see the label before the box gets to them to make their job easier. Meanwhile, there are other workers that are throwing packages as if they're running a sprint. Unnecesary burning of energy and ledas to mistakes and broken packages while there's no one rushing to be quick. Sometimes they pull packages from the middle to have all packages on top fall, I just stay back knowing some of those packages can crack your head or break your neck. I take my time and unload from the top and continue down to the middle and them move to the other side and unload completely like the instructions on the video say. NO ONE IS RUSHING YOU, STOP BURNING UNNECESSARY ENERGY, RUSHING LEADS TO INURIES AND MISTAKES, TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO A GOOD JOB SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THE SAME JOB TWICE.
Been working three months, my coworkers make it worth while but yes it is hard work. Shift is 4am to 9 but I come in earlier. Cold fresh air is amazing
As a part time supervisor yes this job is hard but it gets easier the longer you stay, ups is a good job as a side hustle honestly and good benefits once you get them, good review and good video
This video is very accurate. Everything he says in the video is true. The only thing he left out is that the company demands a lot! From basic starter jobs all the way through being a driver and a supervisor. I always think of it this way… “I would recommend it to anyone, but it’s not for everyone.” It’s an honest living, but also very hard work.
Thanks for the helpful information! I got my second interview out the way and hope I get hired. The UPS here in Concord, ON provides tuition coverage ($27,000) per year for students in addition to up to $900 for books and materials per year. I'm going to work hard to show my gratitude!
Hell yeah bro not another video complaining about how hard it is and how the supervisors telling you to work faster. You definitely understand the roll of an employee. I can see you being a good driver.
I went to my orientation this morning and was hired as a preloader. Everyone seemed like really cool people and they seemed to really care about the employees. I have a really good friend that gave me the heads up that they were looking for people and he put in a good word for me as well. He’s been there for several years and has become a driver now. Starting out they hired me at $22 an hour. I love the hours because regardless of how early I have to wake up, I know I’m going to get overtime hours per day and anything over 5 hours a day is overtime which is roughly $30 an hour. I’ve been a contractor, a mover, and have done concrete work for most of my adult life. The start out pay is better than any place I have ever applied to and the benefits and union opportunities are astrological.
How did you get $22 per hour already? What’s your job position ? And what country are you from? I went to my orientation yesterday and we gonna start working today they gonna pay us $18 per hour
@@blackspace7702 I would be ready for it! My orientation was computer training for a few days. But I heard some guys will start working the line same day. Go CRUSH it 👊🏻

Be prepared for really hard work for the pay it’s pretty shitty but you get a lot of benefits and being apart of a union is pretty great biggest tip I can give you is know who your shop Stewart is and what they can and can’t do to you bc they are gonna try to work you the most they can
I remember watching your other video… helper in Hawaii and I started out the same way, helper during peak then after I was offered a job after and preload was open so I did that. I learned how the company operated like the roles of supervisors, seniority, pay after a couple of months there. It was supposed to be one year to put on my resume but then I kept going. I was going to school at the time and said I’ll wait before driving, was offered PVD work during pandemic then an opportunity to go driving came so I studied, went to class and here I am still working at Ups as a driver almost at 5 years with the company. That hub looks like my hub in Cerritos, CA haha but they don’t scan the packages when they load.
"You're gonna sweat, you're gonna bleed, you're gonna be dirty..." Yes. I experienced all of that. "The camaraderie is strong." I'm glad you worked well with your coworkers. But where I worked it was the pits. One of my coworkers mocked me several times, no matter how fast I moved packages I was always being told to go faster, and even when my knee was scraped and bleeding and my arm got bruised I was told to keep working. I hope stuff like that is the exception instead of the rule.
@I have to many hobbies I'm going broke yeah I feel that, work hard but “no one cares,” if I didn’t have a goal while I was working at ups i would have hated it there...
Virtual interview is simple they tell you to meet up with them via zoom they give you date /time to be there and during the zoom interview they don't ask difficult interpersonal questions about you lol. They tell you a little about what you will be doing for them. Fast forward 2 wéeks after virtual interview your ganna be sweating balls tired as a mofaker ! Throwing boxes wanting to cry and give up
KPaola Gonzalez strengths tips: share your willingness to learn, adapt, be a team player and work hard. why to work at ups? Good benefits, opportunity to move up in company, and if you have friends that work there mention them! Hey good luck on your interview, go crush it!
KPaola Gonzalez for sure, a willingness to learn means you are open to be taught new skills, and to be trained in new ways, and that you are flexible. (In other words you aren’t stubborn or too prideful to learn new things) one thing that helps me when I’m anxious during interviews is to write down the important things I want to say, and when they ask me, I can look at my notes and read my answer. You got this!
I’m applying for a UPS package and Im kinda of a skinny dude so if something is a bit too heavy for me to lift could I ask for help lifting it? Also the hours I see on the application it’s from 11pm to 3am are those realistic hours? Because I see comments saying they have like 4:30 - 9:00 etc and once I’m done applying how long does it take for them to let you know something? And do I need a college degree or high school diploma to get the job as a package handler? And last question how much do they make an hour I also heard they get paid weekly is that true?
Hey buddy, yeah being skinny ain’t an issue, you’ll be able to do the job, there’s someone always nearby if you need help. There’s two shifts, twilight 4-9pm and sunrise 4am -9am, and when you apply it usually takes about a week or so, but it depends if there’s an open role to fill. You don’t need degrees to work as a package handler, my starting pay was 14 but every hub’s pay is different, and you get paid every Friday. Go for it, go crush it!
@@MicahSimpson thanks man sorry for all the questions gonna be nervous if/when I get the job my first day, but getting paid every week is definitely not bad at all.

I just got promoted to supervisor on the start of my 3rd week. I was pulled on the first day of orientation and was told that I could be a supervisor candidate if I wanted. I took the offer, was told to remember work load methods and 2 weeks later, when I was about to sign in, my supervisor told me not to sign in. Ofc I was confused, but then he told me it’s because I made part time supervisor 😂. So yes, great camaraderie and it is literally that easy to move up in the company and start making full time job money from this part time “side hustle” everyone keeps talking about.
Wow that's actually so amazing. I'm turning 18 soon but preparing to go to college next year. Right now Im working two full time jobs. I can't wait till I get my permit on my birthday and when I turn 21 I plan on working at ups part time if not then truck driving. But ups is definitely the goal
They said the bigger the number the farther back it should go idk man I’m hella Discourage I just fucked up the whole ups car now they can’t deliver any of the packages cause I put them all in the wrong spot I feel like if I got the hang of it I would love this job but I don’t wanna keep fucking up and causing problems like that

As far as tips go, maybe go in a little early to get a better feel for how the shelves are set up. Then as the boxes start coming, take your time to make sure they go in the right spot... maybe even take pictures of the truck when it’s empty, and then when it’s full, so you can see how all the numbers work... it took me like 3 weeks for it to make sense in my head!
Hello! Great video! So, I have an interview next week. I was wondering if you’re allowed to listen to music during work? Can you bring your phone in the warehouse? Last of all, What do People wear? I worked at Amazon before and it was a very tiring job so I never wore Jeans. It was always baggy clothes like a sweater with boy shorts. So is that allowed? Thank You!!!!
Hey! Yeah the interview and training are the only times you’ll need to dress nice, after that, everyone wears shorts, sweats, sweaters, beanies etc, basically comfortable clothes. Your phone will get an employee’s sticker so they know it’s yours, and yeah, you can wear headphones, but only one ear in so you can still hear. Good luck for the interview!! What city are you working in?
Was actually thinking about getting a job at UPS, my cousin works there for about 4-6 hours M-F. He makes a pretty good wage, lives with his girlfriend and 2 cats, and can cover his bills + wants. $18/h in Iowa, so seems like pretty solid pay here for such low hours. Plus the OT bonus. I may go for it, just hesitant since they have no jobs requiring 8 hours.
Any job is what you make it and no job is easy or perfect, when you’re in need, you’ll take what you can get to put food on the table and pay bills. If you have a pessimistic mind set, then you’re pretty much already done!
I'm going to work as a part time package handler soon and i was wondering do they give you more hours? I want to work full time since i got alot of stuff to pay. How does that work?
I’m not sure if all Hubs are same, but at mine we had an option to work Monday’s, especially during peak season. (Reg sched tues - sat) which was good for more hours. But basically it’s a part time job, and it won’t really increase. Another option is to stay for the day shift and be a driver helper. So there’s ways to make more money, I would just ask your sup.
UPDATE GUYS! this is literally the easiest job man like for real....all u do is load stuff or unload it couldnt be simpler,..... only thing is getting used to the moving alot which u get used to after like 2 weeks...stop worrying.... its really easy.... anyone with a pulse could work here

So far this job is built for a stunning participant to slavery. While there are a few things he's right about I would never recommend this to anyone over 30 or anyone who actually gets flustered easily. I currently work for UPS. Somedays, I can barely walk to my car, because my legs and back are so sore. A lot of people are not really that friendly. They act like robotic drones waiting for their slave sentence to (shift) end. A few are very friendly. The HUB reminds me of the scenery, and mentality from the new Mad Max movie. Mindless, repetitious scanning, and packaging. Your life becomes, an endless progression of beeps, loud voices, and rollers guiding boxes to the back of a giant dark(pit)trailer. A world of stained metallic metal, conveyor belts, and guttural dialog. As long as you have a clean background and pulse...your welcomed to be a package handler. The marketed world of UPS would have you think everything is crimson & clover, until you enter the hub. Yeah, I felt like quitting a few times too. If UPS is your 1st job ever, then I recommend you work your way up to being a driver feeder as you get older. This sh*t is to hard for scrub wages. 180 to 250 a week/part time.
That’s an accurate description! If I didn’t listen to podcasts and uplifting music it would have been a lot harder. Plus I’m kinda a nerd and actually enjoyed keeping my trucks organized and having the highest scans in my pen, that kinda gave me something to achieve instead of just getting mad at all the packages... good luck, keep your head up!
Well I agree most of what you said. Physical labor, sore and bleeding, worst out... I’m a preloader and I am at the heavy pulls area that always got irregs , and lots of bulk stop. I am small guy but terrible lol 😆 even though I’m short I am trying to keep my pace to not get stockpile with packages 📦 bcoz it will be overwhelming. So mostly everyday the total of my packages are nearly thousands but in peak season got 1500s packages and it’s chaotic...but so far I enjoying it I knew my neighbors and friends with them so it’s kinda routine during the work, talk a bit with them. I will be nearly 9 months in UPS Kansas
I'm really concerned about hours. I want as many hours as I can get, but some people are saying they only get 200 a week. Do they really not give many hours?
yeah its a part time job. During peak season, and sometimes when its busy, you might get more hours, but 20 hours a week is what you sign up for. You can also apply to be a driver helper during the day, that could get you more hours too.
Learn it fast! learn where the packages go, learn the labels, learn the belts, sorters are super important for the guys loading trucks, so get good at it, your loaders will thank you! I plan to apply as a UPS package handler part time and the shift is from 4:30PM to 8:00PM would you be able to provide any detail if this shift is more hectic than the 4:30AM to 8:00AM?
Great question! So every shift at UPS is hectic. But the mornings will be more pressure, because the trucks have to be loaded and on the road by a certain time. But No matter the shift, there’s always a ton of boxes to be moved... especially because peak season is coming, and there’s heavier volumes of packages.
So in my experience, orientation was strictly paper work and some training, I didn’t need work shoes yet. BUT I’ve heard from others that some HUBS will have you on the line during your orientation. Is your pay affected by what role you have in the position you apply for? For example, as a package handler is your pay affected if you are an unloader vs. something else?
Basically all part time package handlers begin with the same pay. Then you can work your way up. There are various roles within the package handler position, but it doesn’t change the pay rate. When I got hired there was like 10 of us, and they assigned us to different places all over the hub. Some unloaded containers, some loaded trucks. We all got $14 an hour. Make sense?
So was looking into the ups job as a package handler but it only says part time will it change if I work there longer or will i always stay as a part time package handler?
package handler is part time, you'd have to move into a different role for full time. But at 9 months as a package handler, you get full time benefits. which is health, vacations, sick days etc... Also, during peak season, it ends up being full time hours, some weeks for me would be 12midnight to 9am... 6 days a week...

Hello Micah! First off thank you for sharing your experience.2nd Do you have any tips to make the job easier? 3.How long does it take to move up to a driver?
Hello! So if you load trucks, advice that helped me was 1 check in consistently with your driver and ask how to better load their truck. 2 my sup told me touch a box the least amount as possible, ideally you touch a box once, it gets scanned and loaded into the truck. 3 arrive a few min early, to get your scanner working, truck checked, and area cleaned up, because starting off behind in any way means boxes will pile up on you. Moving up to driver depends on the HUB, but could be as fast as 2 years, Or as long as 12! Hope that helps, go crush it! 👊🏼
@@stacymcdaniel9627 they sure do! Well most of the time. It all Depends on the specific job, but being a package handler you’ll move hundreds of boxes each shift. My job was loading trucks. So id have 4-5 trucks, and each truck would have about 300-500 packages on it. All the packages come into one area, and you have to sort them, scan them and put on the correct truck. So yeah there’s def a lot of packages every day! And basically if you can’t finish, or there’s an overload of packages (which happens) they will send someone to help you. And honestly at the end of the day, there’s other people around who help and jump in, so it’s crazy but manageable. Make sense?
Great video! Do you think I could work the weekends only there? I have school but I want to make some money on the side and package hander seems perfect.
No, probably not. Most, if not all part-time package handler jobs are 5 days a week and that’s usually Monday-Friday or sometimes Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday for some shifts. There are different options for times of shifts for package handlers tho. Every building should have a preload and local sort. Preload at my centre is about 4am-9am, and it varies by the centre and the package volume coming in. Local sort is in the evening and its at about 5pm-9pm for my centre, once again, it varies. Large centres and hubs will have more shifts throughout the day, some are overnight, so like 11pm-2:30am or something like that and some even have day sorts. But yeah you should at least have a early morning or evening option
Phil! thats great! I would recommend, 1 water bottle, and coffee if your a coffee guy 2 lunch, I always brought my own food and snacks, they have a break room but home food is always better. 3 long sleeves, my favorite setup was sweats and a long sleeve shirt, it saved my arms from rubbing on boxes all day. 4 gloves, bro some simple gloves will save your hands, especially with the little scanner you have to use, oh man and you'll touch like 1,000 boxes a day, so gloves are the deal... 5 if your loading the trucks, memorize the shelves as quick as you can! go kill it bro!
awesome! yes for sure, I also had a full time "day job" when I was at ups, and its totally doable. as long as I packed my meals, drank water, slept 7 hours, i was good. you got this, go crush it!
@@edwingarcia3250 In my Hub it was weekly. They would either post it on Saturday for the next week, or my supervisor would text us any revisions on Sundays.
@@thebfam6191 they aren’t flexible 🥲because they load trucks that have to be on the road, and all the roles in the AM are scheduled to meet that deadline.
So the pay they're offering says 19hr.(meeting 25hrs and weekly meet bonus) does that mean the base pay is still 19 regardless with the possible 25hr a week? Or only if you have meet weekly attendance and get the bonus? Because I'll work my ass off for 19.
Great question, you’ll prob need to ask them to clarify. When I was a driver helper they said bonus if you don’t miss a shift, so maybe that’s what there doing for the 19… but yeah go check, cause that’s great starting pay!
@@MicahSimpson It's really 15 for package handler. They didn't go into detail like I wanted them to on how 19 is calculated. Unless that attendance bonus is +$100 and guaranteed every week. Its pretty straightforward, laborious work. don't think I'll be here long if hours aren't consistent though or paycheck ain't more than Amazon. I see how UPS gets bodies.
Quick question their telling me my orientation and first day is the same day loader/unloader and I have to have wear boots? was thinking of buying them after if I get the Job or not time is 11am-4
Normally the first few days are bookwork and paperwork, so you should be able to wear any sturdy shoe you have til they actually place you on the line. It’s simple, but my advice would be to break in the shoe before you use it. Hope that helps, Go crush it!
Not really, sometimes you’ll stay later, but the package handler position is to load and unload trucks in the AM before drivers go out for delivery, so there’s not really loading work once they leave about 9:30-10am. They will have you come early though. Regular hours were like 5-9, but peak season We’d come in like 12,1 or 2am. But regular work hours remain part time. Make sense?
I don't know if I can handle all this physical work, for that long. I'm strong and fast but it's because I do high intensity exercises. I do low reps and heavy weight. I'm starting the 16th. Do you think I can handle all this physical work? 10:30pm to 5:30 am?
As a part-time supervisor to package handlers at UPS, it is very important to me to get to know my loaders. What do they do on their spare time, where do they see themselves in 1-5 years, what are their goals in the future. When you get to know your employees, not only can you see how well they work, but you can create relationships with them that can ultimately better your life as well as theirs, and then they will want to work for you and do better for UPS. A supervisor can make or break an employee, defining the morale and expectations of their employees while executing the goals and aspirations of the company.
Hey that’s great! Thanks for being a leader who cares about employees, we need more like you!
Exactly my supervisor is the reason I want to quit now , after 1 month
😂I’m a preloader , but he’s been having me unload the trucks every since I got there.
It sucks, but it’s very good, please keep it up
@@almightywalk Yeah I noticed the sups gave the harder jobs and drops to the guys who worked hard and did'nt complain...
Thanks for sharing, it’s good for people to hear how solid it’s been for you! 👊🏻

Thanks Art, appreciate it buddy 👊🏻
I suffer from anxiety, I should try to pace myself
Been working three months, my coworkers make it worth while but yes it is hard work. Shift is 4am to 9 but I come in earlier. Cold fresh air is amazing

This video is very accurate. Everything he says in the video is true. The only thing he left out is that the company demands a lot! From basic starter jobs all the way through being a driver and a supervisor. Hell yeah bro not another video complaining about how hard it is and how the supervisors telling you to work faster. You definitely understand the roll of an employee. I can see you being a good driver.
What's the difference between an employee and a paid slave in your opinion? Hahaha
Being paid per job as a contractor I made more, but I had zero benefits other than tax write offs.
Hey man thats great to hear! Yeah UPS has great benefits, and 22 starting is a win! Go crush it!
How did you get $22 per hour already? What’s your job position ? And what country are you from? I went to my orientation yesterday and we gonna start working today they gonna pay us $18 per hour

Happy worker is a productive worker. Most employers don't realize that.
So cool bro, what a journey! yeah I was at the Anaheim hub, those scanners were a pain but helped to prevent misloads...
Honestly my supervisor was legit, and he didn’t put up with BS from anyone in our pen... I think that’s what made our camaraderie strong...
I believe harder things help me be more happier because we're meant to have a balance of comfort and harder challenges

KPaola Gonzalez for sure, a willingness to learn means you are open to be taught new skills, and to be trained in new ways, and that you are flexible.

Make sense?

Considering applying! It says shift is sunrise/preload and will be 3 to 10 am. Will this really be the case it seems like I won't really be getting 35 hours a week.

AWESOME VIDEO LOVE TO HEAR THIS 👏👏👏👏
Hello Micah!
@@MicahSimpson wait packages pile up on you. What happens when they pile up.
Make sense?
Usually 5 years
Great video!
But yeah you should at least have a early morning or evening option
ф φ damn alright thanks man. I guess I’ll see if I have time to work in the afternoons
I start this upcoming tuesday as a package handler any advice
Phil! thats great! I would recommend,
1 water bottle, and coffee if your a coffee guy
2 lunch, I always brought my own food and snacks, they have a break room but home food is always better.
