- Simplifying an urban landscape painting into a 30 minute painting was the challenge I set for myself in this watercolor painting lesson. Beginners or intermediate watercolor artists looking to simplify and speed up their painting process will learn how I simplify an urban scene, this view of Paris from the Arc D'Triomphe featuring a gorgeous shot of the Eiffel Tower. You can paint along with me and develop your own intuitive, open-ended painting practice!

I have been following Angela for several years, and she has given me so much. I absolutely love the way she encourages us all to become our own favorite artist. I am taking her 4 day workshop in Sidney in August and am so excited because I know her instruction includes technique AND inspiration. Thank you Angela for all you are doing for the watercolor community. Penny Ketola
Angela, I am in awe of your hustle and drive to bring your art, heart and spirit to others!
Thank you so much!
I am on your email list and want you to know that I, and probably many others, appreciate these videos. I am fairly new to watercolour and learning everyday. I still work full time so I don’t have the time to commit to paid courses or excursions, but will be retiring in a few years, when I plan to dive more deep in my art practice. I have even thought about doing one of your in person travel workshops, at that time. I hope you are able to keep these up...I know they must be a lot of work! I love your loose style and all your amazing advice!
I appreciate your comment and support so much! Thank you!
Thanks for all your encouraging tips. I love your loose but representational work.
Thank you! I'm enjoying seeing my plein air style process develop, although this technically isn't plein air.
Thanks Angela for sharing your skills and passion!
You are so welcome!
Great lesson. The brushstrokes made this painting so interesting. Thanks…
Wonderful demonstration. I can’t wait to try it. Angela makes it easy and successful! Thank you Angela!

Thank you, Leslie!
Thank you Angela! It is inspiring to watch your process....so much to learn!
You are so welcome!
Great video. I always struggle with simplifying a detailed subject. I was glad to see that you also had to make your way through the scene until it just happened. Thanks!
That really is the way! It's a process of trusting that the pieces will somehow fit together at the end.
Thanks Angela. That was so helpful
Great video, I like how you describe your approach to painting, your relaxed approach to experiment and encouragement to embrace the medium. Thank you
Thank you so much!
Love the way the turquoise and golden splashes at the end restore simplicity after the addition of smaller details! Giving the eye some larger movements to make through the image.
That's a good insight! Thank you!
Hopefully I can paint this when I go to Paris!! Thank you ❤
Oh, I hope you love your trip there! We bought our Arc D'Triomphe tickets online and went early and it wasn't too crowded. Have fun!
Amazing Angela! Your thinking process as always is spot on and to see it come to fruition through this video has been very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you!
Such fun! Thank you, Angela.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Enjoyed seeing you turn your hand to a cityscape!
Angela, thanks for this. I’m interested in how you simplify a complex scene. Love the loose foreground foliage.
You're welcome! And thank you!
Such a great illustration of trusting our eye and hand to do the work..hank you for this!!
I love your view of Paris! And I learned more from your use of a pencil!!! I always agonizing as to how to add details to color areas later. Thank you!!!
It makes me laugh that this is how I use a pencil now. Who would have thought?
Angela - I really felt you CLAIMING this piece. I will carry this feeling into my next quick sketches of Picacho del Diablo. Nancy in Baja
Well, I don 't know about that! But I do think I'm learning to accept my process and be present in it. There's some real joy in that. Thank you!
Loving your technique, and the beautiful Daniel Smith watercolors you use!
Thank you so much! They are great paints.
Thankyou for your generosity in sharing your technique. I learned a lot and feel inspired 🙏🏻🩷

You are so kind, thank you!
Your lessons are always easy to follow. Thanks for the extra tips!
Angela thank you for this quick lesson...just in time for the Olympics!
Yes, isn't it exciting! When we were there last year we saw signs of their preparing for the Olympics.
Simplify, such a challenge to keep it simple! But oh the benefit you have demonstrated! Thank you Angela.
Yes, it's so hard and such a process of trust! And freeing!
I love watching you paint and always learn something new! Thank you for the time you put into helping us!
You're so welcome!
Angela is always awesome!
Such a great way to illustrate what happens when we trust our eye and our hand to create…bypassing a little of the obsessiveness of our thought processes. Thanks for this!
Oh, this comment is so true! Finding that trust is what it's all about for me.
This is excellent stuff, Angela. Finally going to order that Lebenzon brush. Thank you!
IT's a good time to do it with the sale! Enjoy!
Very inspiring video.
Thank you!
Love your work! 💗
Thank you!
Love all of your work! You always give such wonderful tips and make me want to pull out my watercolour supplies right away. :)
Then my work here is done! Enjoy! 😊
Thanks, Angela. I love your teaching style and your work. It's fun to see you paint a cityscape.
It's a new challenge for much but was so fun! Thank you!
I really enjoy Angela's lesson, it's clear. As someone new to landscape watercoloring, this is so helpful and inspiring to pick up!
Thank you so much!
I very much appreciated your talk about your travel palette and why you chose the colors you use. I notice how few greens you have in that palette and I'm so spoiled with all the greens I have access to. It will be good to try mixing more. thank you, as always!
I always feel like if I have Phthalo Blue or Phthalo Turquoise, I can mix greens all day long! Thank you!
You are always an inspiration! This was so good for seeing how to simplify my own vacation photos.
Great video!
Angela, it was you who got me into watercolor. I thank u so much for that...
I'm so glad you've kept painting! Enjoy!
Very interesting!
Love this video!!
Thank you!!
Great video. Thank you for sharing
So glad you are back - keep up the good work. An invaluable resource and instructor.
one of the greatest teachers you will find!
That is so kind, Dahlia! Thank you!
Just love how Angela makes painting about annoying the process and caring less about perfection.
"annoying" but I know what you mean🧑
Thank you so much! That annoying process...😄
Love the painting. I have mostly done acrylics but am trying to integrate some watercolors into my work. It is interesting to learn and thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent with us. I did not realize you had a TH-cam channel until today. I have subscribed.
I'm glad you found it! Enjoy...there's lots on here to learn from.
Hi, This is Chuck...from the past. I enjoy your videos. I am bed bound and unable to paint. Love your work.
Hi Chuck, I'm sorry to hear your health has you confined to bed. Thinking of you with love and prayers.
Simplifying the shapes makes the process much less intimidating and using the pencil adds spontaneity and interest. Thanks for this interesting video.
Simplification means a lot to me - I need a less intimidating process so I'm glad to share what I've learned!
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that-I-should-know-better-but-do-it-anyways!
Thank you Angela! I am doing a painting a day for WWCM and using the hashtag to post.
Good for you! I'll watch for your work online. 😊
Good idea for giveaways!
❤❤❤
When I paint with you I feel like I am a watercolor artist, still lots to lean but that is ok.
That's because you are! We never stop learning this beautiful challenging medium. ❤
Love the info but watching you paint with wild color on your nails is distracting. 🤗
It makes berry picking more difficult as well!
Loose and impressionistic.
