By far the best version of this film ever to be made...
I cannot bring myself to watch the remake, this original
    is absolutely the BEST.....totally authentic
with a wonderful cast, crew and director,
not forgetting the most beautiful theme
    and the folk songs.....
It often makes me feel sad when I watch it 😢
There are so many memories it evokes for me!
    🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🎶🎶🎶💕💕

Yes. You cannot replace Alan Bates. Or Terence Stamp or Julie Christie. Or Peter Finch or Prunella Ransome. Ridiculous to have tried.

      You are absolutely right!
Also the way it is photographed, the beautiful scenery!
So VERY authentic......and as you say, great actors,
some of whom as we know are sadly gone 🙏🏻🙏🏻💕🇬🇧
Ps this is often the way when film makers do a ‘re make’
      It rarely works IMOP.....

Watched the remake at a movie theatre. It did not hold a candle to the original version. A disappointment

Just about my favorite piece of movie music ....a favorite on any level , and fully worthy of Alan Bates and Julie Christie

A love theme to rural Dorset. Anyone who has sat on top of the Purbeck range, travelled the road over the Lulworth ranges above Tyneham or looked back at the long sweep of Chesil bank towards Portland will know that ache that this music evokes

This is an absolute sublime piece musical of work, which captures the landscape of Dorset, together with such great cinematography and story-telling and acting. A classic.

Did anyone else know that Mr Bennett based his theme on an old traditional folk song (the opening flute). Completely transformed it of course. One of my favourite books delightfully brought to the screen (and I've had the pleasure of seeing this in 70mm in a cinema - magic) featuring two of my 60s crushes, Alan Bates and (sigh) Julie Christie. Thank you so much for uploading this, added to my favourites. The soundtrack CD is going for silly prices.

Arguably the most melancholic and beautiful theme ever...?

      the remake! unfortunately 💕💕💕🎶🎵🙏🏻🙏🏻🇬🇧

The musical score is musical artistry that evokes romance with a balance of strong tones (or strength). It titillates mildly rather than soothe the soul, and then take it heights at a crescendo. Therefore, I find this score, compelling enough to engage my ears completely, give my undivided attention to it; and allow myself to be immersed in the stellar composition. To me, it is an assertive romantic's anthem. Thomas Hardy's classic, "Far from the Madding Crowd" was exquisitely interpreted onscreen by a cast of highly skilled/talented actors - beautiful / talented Julie Christie, Peter Finch (a talented delight to watch), Alan Bates (a highly skilled actor whose performance would make you forget he's acting). Also, Alan Bates acting made me secretly wish for a loyal & loving Gabriel Oak in my life. Terence Stamp (the mesmerising Terence Stamp as the grenadier, Sergeant Troy, with the unforgettable sword showmanship scene sparkled in every scene. Troy's final scene with Bathsheba Everdene, really exposed him as a control freak / killjoy, gatecrashing & 'showing off' to guests at a party (held in honour of Bathsheba) how he can subdue Bathsheba's will (a strong-willed, farmer). Mr. Boldwood's reaction (acted by Peter Finch), especially his facial expression in Peter Finch's final scene is highly commendable, and makes you forget you are watching a classic. The infatuation of Bathsheba with Troy, was interesting to watch. I love the outdoor scenes, and the cinematic expertise that was invested into the movie. I cherish two scenes in which: (1). Bathsheba takes a walk in the woods, and sleeps outdoors after the heartbreaking incidence between her and Troy. (2). Her waking and smiling (as though filled with new hope), when she observed a young, male passer-by, whom adorably kept attempting to recite a biblical verse correctly. I find it difficult to watch remakes of the classic. In my opinion, the cast (Julie Christie, Alan Bates, Terence Stamp, Peter Finch, etc), musical score, the acting, costume, Julie Christie's hairstyles, cinematography, ..... is a gold standard for other remakes.

Mystery to me why this film is so under-rated, one of the most gloriously atmospheric watches of all, and it so deserves this wonderful score - with that underlining cor anglais obbligato.
