What was best about this era of dungeons and dragons was the lack of constant wit and irony everything uses today. I love the sincere sober mindedness that this is presented in. Makes all the difference between something feeling frivolous or significant and worthwhile.

It’s called Millennial writing and believe it or not, it started with a Gen X writer: Joss Whedon. Buffy was a net negative to art and storytelling. Marvel’s Avengers was also written & directed by, you guessed it, Whedon.

You hit the nail on the head. No wonder I like the old school better. I love a bit of humor now and then, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it being a genre _expectation_ or _necessity_ is a bit much.

It's postmodernism and it's been around longer than Joss Whedon. @@MerlinTheCommenter

The cassette got caught in the tape player and tangled it up. My girlfriend at the time and I, carefully unwound and untangled it all night, laying it in the street almost two blocks long before carefully winding it back up. I felt like a surgeon saving a life.

I'm such a huge fan of this whole series, I'm actually rereading Knight of the black rose as well. Lord Soth is one of my all-time favorite characters ever, and the Majere Brothers are on the same pedestal!! I'm also reading back through the soul forge as well. My order is a little haywire lol, little mini reading back through them for the nostalgia and all the memories. I'm actually working on creating all of these characters on baldur's gate 3 currently.

The modules allowed no deviation from the planned path and storyline, no player agency nor any DM agency, they were like a solo adventure roleplay book that only had one "turn to page number" option at the bottom of each page, the authors were clearly entirely ignorant of what D&D was or how to write a module for it.. the books, low quality drivel, at best the fantasy equivalent of a piece of low effort mills and boons write by numbers by someone who wasn't a fan of the genre and didn't really like what they were doing, the artwork was acceptable but as a whole Dragon Lance was a complete waste of money for any D&D table that bought any of it 👎 on the whole utter trash and a waste of money.. change my mind, go on, try 🤗
