I've owned this recording for a long time, and while I was surveying performances of this aria, Peter Seiffert's performance is pretty outstanding. I wish he had sung there lyric roles instead of the Wagner he eventually added to his rep. I saw him once at the Met--TANNHAUSER. It was a well-sung performance, but he was a wooden actor.
