The summer of 1983 this song was huge!! RIP to James Mtume, he produced a lot of songs for other people like Stephanie Mills and Phyllis Hyman.

His partner Reggie Lucas (RIP) Mtume-Lucas Productions and cofounder of the band went on to produce hits on Madonna’s first album.

Trivia: they replaced the line 'you can lick me everywhere' with 'candy kisses everywhere'. I assume the original line was too spicy for MTV back in the day. RIP Mtume.

Hahaha I was 9 and I was obsessed with this song because Juicy Fruit was my favorite chewing gum. Completely oblivious to the sexuality. 😂 As I got older I was like ohhhhhhhhh! Ok!! 😂

Love this song, I remember singing it walking to my room I had to be at least 11 or 12 saying I’ll be your lollipop, you can lick me everywhere and my aunt smacked me all in my mouth, lips were swollen like JJ from good times lol

....Oh, yeeeeeeeeeesssss..... ***MTUME TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...lets get, juuuuuiccccyyyyy....
    (3:25) (cont.)
James "Mtume" was a VERY popular Producer, who became noticed for creating "Post-Disco" tunes (Disco songs AFTER the "Disco S-cks" backlash); he FAMOUSLY created early 80's tunes for Stephanie Mills ("Never Knew Love Like This Before") & Phyllis Hyman ("You Know How To Love Me").....
    - Stephanie fired him after her 1982 Album, and he decided to take the tracks he was creating for her, and create a BAND; He hired Tawatha Agee ("Thigh Ride"), and they put out "Juicy Fruit" Summer, 1983..huge. BIG, MASSIVE #1 R&B Hit, for SEVEN WEEKS!!
    - Empress is listening to the 'censored' Single version (3:08)...on the ORIGINAL version, she says, "...you can L-CK me, EVERYWHERE...."
    - as "Biggie" showed you (0:56), it was sampled VERY heavily, to the point of James putting a 'c-p' (a limit per year, on how many times a Song can be asked for permission), because SO MANY wanted to sample it!! Mtume (the Group) had 2 other hits (1984's "You, Me & He", & 1986's "Breathless"), Tawatha went Solo, and Mtume semi-retired, 'cause Biggie brought him WHOLE LOTTA MONEY....unfortunately, James Mtume died last month.....
...Oh! ..and, "The Chauffeur"? (3:41) ...BACK in the 70's / 80's Rich Party Girls would have affairs with Chauffeurs, Pool Boys, Cabana Boys, Waiters, etc...that, was a slick 'nod' to, "foolin' around", in the Video...... ; )

Hi Empress. Regarding the 'weirdness' of the dude dancing with the Asian chick: You must remember this was way back in 1983, when making music videos was a relatively new thing. Most music video producers (or the artists for that matter) had no clue about how to interpret an R&B song in a video format, especially not a song as suggestive as this one. Mtume did much better when they made the video for their next record 'You, Me, and He'.
