MOHAMMED GEEDI: So, this might be an unpopular opinion - but I think Thomas' Sodor Celebration is one of my all-time favourite Thomas DVDs along with Carnival Capers, Track Stars, Steamies vs. Diesels, and especially: It's Great To Be An Engine and Milkshake Muddle. [Not to be confused with the Season 5 song and the Season 9 episode of the same names]
MOHAMMED GEEDI: Also in my opinion - Nelvana should team up with Hasbro and rebel against Mattel for getting rid of the original Thomas the Tank Engine and replacing it with a disgraceful reboot: "All Engines Go!"
MOHAMMED GEEDI: My final conclusion? Hasbro and the writers should make Sir Topham Hatt listen to the engines' sides of their stories instead of completely making him dismissing them.
@@skunkman9815Robert Harthshorne is a good composer. Surely in a lot of episodes his music sounds pretty dull and stupid, but if the music needed to be scary, he made it scary.
Another great review, Taylor! First off, whoever you lost over Christmas, I'm sorry for your loss, and second, This is probably the most nostalgic Hit era release for me. Yes, Michael Brandon's narrations can be a bit awkward to listen to first time around if you're English like me but still, most of the episodes that are on either the VHS or DVD are good to say the least. The best one of the bunch though is Halloween because of the HAUNTINGLY good music and atmosphere of the smelters and the moral of the story which I'd guess is "Don't believe everything you hear" And the Bonus Features on the US releases are SO good, particularly the Storybook Adventure game which for a mid 2000s DVD game still holds up after all these years. Sorry if this comment is way too long for you.
According to the Thomas Wiki: "in an Interview with SiF, Steve Asquith explained that complaints about fish being transported in open wagons were ignored due to the belief that children would understand a story better if they could see what was in the trucks. As a result, from the 8th to 15th series, all fish were transported unhygienically."
“Chickens to School” reminds me of Theodore Tugboat’s episode, “Is Anyone Listening?” In the Pearl and Petra give Theodore three jobs with answering his question.
At last, a HiT Era review! In all seriousness, I really don't like how HiT handled celebration of the 60 year anniversary of the RWS, especially Calling All Engines
This brings back a lot of memories and yeah the Halloween episode from season 8 omg the music from the chase scene was so amazing and intense just came out from like a horror film
This is one of the first thomas dvds I ever remember getting and I remember loving ever part except from when the dvd would end because I used to be scared of the dvd adverts at the end of the dvds from that era
A lot of people I've seen, both when it came out and in retrospect, tend to give Season 8 some flak. And while I can understand it (kinda), I don't think it's warranted personally. Is it among the best seasons ever? No, not really. But if you go back and look at it, there's some really cool eps in there. For instance, Thomas Saves the Day and Halloween on this release. Speaking of the latter, at 10:23 - 11:08, DAMN did Hartshorne set the score for that scene! Though I kinda wish they had given this season's episode "Fish" a different title so as not to have people confuse it with the Season 4 episode of the same name. Even if it was titled "Thomas and the Fish", as generic a title as it sounds, at least it would've been different. The episode itself isn't bad, but it's not the best either. Also, not every episode this season features Emily as a prissy and/or bossy brat. Don't believe me? Check out Emily's New Route or the aforementioned Halloween. Though I'd be lying if I said I didn't prefer her Season 7 and/or Brenner era persona(s), but that's just me.
You know what makes "Thomas and the Circus" more of a genuinely good episode than it is boring as some people say it is? I actually like the fact this episode was the same one that introduced the theme remixing both Thomas' Season 8 theme and "Ain't We Got Fun?", an old 1920's American song from way way back. It's one of Hartshorne's best scores from Seasons 8-11 in my opinion. I do like that it carried over until Season 15 in 2011 (2010 if you count the fact that all the episodes from that season were produced the same year as Season 13's UK and US release on DVD and TV)..
Halloween is my favorite episode of Season 8 too. I love the part of the Ghost Train that looked like Gordon, because what if that was a real engine, that had a terrible accident and died? I mean there’s little doubt cause we saw the visual.
Magnificent review indeed. At 3:29, that part of the Thomas game does crack me up, too, and it's cute at the same time; Idk why, but me and friend find it adorable when Thomas and the rest of his pals spin their eyes from whatever expression or reaction they're feeling in the Model Era Version. 👀🕹🎮🚂🚃🚃💨 I love this one, too. The episodes "Thomas Saves The Day", "Don't Tell Thomas", "Halloween", "Spic and Span", "Thomas and the Circus" are my favorites. Taylor, Annie and Clarabel are brilliant at helping Thomas in the episode, "Thomas Saves The Day"; they are also my favorite characters in the show due to the fact they are like dear aunts to Thomas. And Thomas is their nephew. 💝💖 😊 Plus, the "Surprises" song is the best feature. I used to be in choir and I chose this song for a solo audition gig for a concert one day. My choir teacher told me that she loved the song from Thomas and that she loved the show. 📺 ☺ My, what a wonderful memory back then. I miss choir. 🌟🎼🎵🎶🎤 Oh, and I'm sorry for your loss.
I was obsessed with this dvd when I was younger I was so depressed when I left it at school once in first grade as for the last day of school before Christmas they said we could bring in a movie then vote on who’s movie we’ll watch mine got picked but I never got it back but luckily when I turned 10 my aunt got me another copy for My birthday
Hey Taylor, excellent review. When do you think you’re going to get James learns a lesson out? Also, are you considering doing Trust Thomas or Thomas comes to Breakfast? I would really like to see those two.
I was never that big a fan of season 8 but they did have some classics here and there. Thomas Saves The Day and Halloween are my personal favs.
Though I don't get why they didn't call "Thomas Saves The Day", "Thomas and the Difficult Bend".

10:24, Okay not gonna lie, but Hartshorne’s music here sounds more scary than O’Donnell and Campbell’s.
I agree
It sounds like something from a horror movie
@@skunkman9815Robert Harthshorne is a good composer. Surely in a lot of episodes his music sounds pretty dull and stupid, but if the music needed to be scary, he made it scary.

"Halloween" is the best S8 episode, hands down!

Makes sense, but still
@@yamitay9258 no I agree with you. Heck I was a kid when I first saw the episode and thought "wouldn't the fish spoil out in the open like that?"
Not the most surprised it took until S16 where they looked back on the criticism and learned from them after S15.
If I were Steve Asquith, I’d make little crates or make lots of covers.
The narrator could've just said what was in the trucks. THAT"S THE WHOLE POINT OF A NARRATOR!!!
At 13:17, I could not stop laughing. Great review as usual Taylor, and I'm sorry for your loss.
I appreciate that

I still have this one and remember watching it a lot.
So sorry that you lost a family member over the holidays.
Thank you
I had the UK version of this growing up. It was my favourite HiT era DVD.
