- UK Preppers or Preppers anywhere else for that matter. The world is changing and getting scarier by the minute. If you are new to prepping or even if you've been prepping for a while, it's always good to make sure you have all your disaster preparedness plans and items in place.
This video is grass roots, the bare minimum that people should consider when they have chosen to be a Prepper and prepare for an uncertain future.
Prepping should never be fear driven or result in you getting into debt.

Invest in some outdoor solar lights which can be put on a windowsill in the daytime and used on an evening. Those sml micro lights on a copper wire work in low light too. I use some in my bathroom so I don't need to put big light on in the night..
That's sound advice, thank you. Enjoy your weekend 👍

Please, folks, have a backup can opener just in case. You dont wanna find out, at the worst time, that tools can and will break.
@@reggaetonjones1988 absolutely, one is none.
Great video, nice seeing another UK prepper.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Enjoy your day 👍
Oh there's a few of us but we stay hidden so we're not called crazy 😂
@@user-http55588Funky Prepper is a nut job.
Even though there are events happening in the world, the emphasis on minor emergencies is what is important and definitely what people should focus on to begin with. In the past, I have had to evacuate my house, for 24 hours, due to a wildfire near my neighborhood. I received a reverse emergency call and was given 30 minutes to gather my children, pets, and important items. In a panic, I was flinging things in my car that I felt were important and neglected some things that were really important to me (important papers, photos, etc). I now have a go bag with back up photos and important documents. The other scenario that I experience frequently is being without electricity and heat in the midst of a windstorm or winter weather. The longest I have been out was 6 days, and I had to use some of the tools/things you mentioned to get through. As a result of this, I also purchased a heat source (Mr Buddy heater that is propane powered and is safe for indoor use). With climate change, I anticipate more of these type of events than political unrest and the things mentioned in this video will get you through.
Absolutely correct, plenty of things waiting to upset our day.
Hope you are well, and thank you for watching.
I was watching a couple who were preppers in America. They said they always zip loc bagged personal documents photos , a list of important phone numbers incase their phone run out of power., a fresh pair of socks and underwear in their bug out bags I thought that was sound advice considering certain parts of the UK are experiencing terrible flooding.
Interesting to see how ya’ll across the pond are preparing. I found your statement about 12 hrs compared to our 72.
I believe that your basic knowledge is a great start for anyone who hasn’t thought about it yet. Good job, keep it up! From Ohio USA.
Thanks for your kind input and for watching, it's appreciated 👍.
I’m from the UK and for years I’ve been looking for UK prepper channels, so for the past six years I’ve just been following the USA preparedness channel talking points. But I’m glad they’re popping up a lot more now.
Love it when I hear about prepping from here in the uk. Subbed, cheers mate
You're welcome and thanks for the sub. Enjoy your day 👍
you can get LED candles which are operated by batteries, they look like normal decorative church candles and there is no fire risk.....just an idea, would also get refillable lighters and a couple of cans of lighter gas...
Not seen those. Thanks for the suggestions and for watching, it's appreciated 👍
Years ago I managed on packets of dried rice cooked and tomato ketchup for 3 about weeks.
Very good video thank you for doing it.
@@SW-tw8rf it's amazing what we can actually survive on if we have too. Thanks for watching and stay safe 👍
Consider getting a radio which has solar, battery and wind-up recharging. I have one which has all of those options plus a flashlight at one end, and an orange flashing light for emergencies at the other. It cost me £25 online and is very sturdy.
In your first aid kit include the following dressings: Bactigras and Inadine. These will help to avoid infections. It is best to get both kinds because Inadine contains iodine and not everybody can tolerate iodine on an open wound. For weeping wounds get a calcium alginate dressing such as Kallostat or Cutiderm. These will help stop wounds from weeping excessive moisture which may inhibit wounds healing. Ensure that you have some micropore or silicone tape because not everybody can tolerate ordinary plasters. Also include some Neosporin as a topical antibiotic option. The aim is, wherever possible, to avoid wound infections.
As an alternative to gas-powered burners consider gel burners. Luminaire brand has solid fuel canisters which last six hours. A pack of six costs around 20 pounds. There is nothing that can go wrong with the gel burners. There is no mechanism that can fail or gas canisters that can fail. All you need is the gel canister, the little stove to drop it into and a box of matches. We have two Coglan folding camping stoves. They are made of solid steel and can hold a heavy saucepan. The gel fuel comes in a tin with a screw-on lid. Take the lid off, slide it into the front of your Coglan, close the door and away you go. The fuel is solid and inert until you light it. The Coglans we have are about 7 inches square and 6 inches deep. The construction ensures that the flame is protected from wind. They cost about a tenner each. You can get yourself set up with two stoves and 36 hours of cooking time for under £40.
Thanks for watching and your suggestions 👍. Enjoy your day, take care.
New subscriber here. Thanks for informing. Any people are new to prepping and need to start with basics.
Thanks for the sub, the world is changing and we all need to be prepared for life's ups and downs.

Another item I use when considering Grid down lighting are battery powered PIR lights or USB charged PIR lights (using a battery bank, much like charging a mobile phone to recharge). These are especially useful around kids and also in critical areas such as hallways, stairways, toilet/bathroom, kitchen, etc. as they turn themselves off, when no movement is detected, so prolonging battery life.
On another note, as I have Grandkids living with me, is also have a supply of colouring books, pencils, felt tips, board games, etc. anything to keep kids occupied in a no Grid/Internet scenerio.
You raise some very good points Mark. Thank you for watching and enjoy your weekend 👍
Nice and down to earth 👍

6L British Berkefeld currently £130 on Amazon. Good tip on warming the gas, thanks.
Cheers for watching and enjoy your weekend 😁 👍
I would add a simple get home/overnight bag to your car, you may not be at home when a major problem occurs, bad weather etc whilst at work can prevent you being able to drive home. Good walking boots, waterproof coat, bottle of water, small snack, power bank and cable for phone etc.
Absolutely, a Get Home Bag is one of the most important preps.
Thank you for watching and enjoy your day 👍
Love this video. Sensible advice. I didn’t know about the milk cartons, thanks for that. Just a suggestion, It might be worth having some surface wipes too, to keep areas sanitised if water becomes a premium.
Thank you for watching and for the kind words. Definitely a good idea with the wipes.
Enjoy what's left of your weekend 👍
Came across your channel tonight been prepping for a while very interesting vlog definitely subscribing
Many thanks for creating this video, it's most appreciated.

Tea light heater. Put a tea light or 3 in an ikea cutlery holder, stainless steel with lots of holes in. Put a teracotta plant pot over it. Gentle radiant heat.
Thank you, just be mindful of CO. Take care.
@@p2snetwork yep, detector in there too. 👍
They are dangerous and i wouldn't recommend you use them except in and extreme emergency.
@@spudman869 they are only dangerous when people start pushing it and putting 5 or more in there. 3 at the bottom of a large, seasoned plant pot on top of said cutlery holder will only produce gentle warmth and is very unlikely to explode. Obviously a carbon monoxide detector nearby is essential same as any open flame. In a room, this set up is unlikely to be a problem.
Top video once again. On torches went into b&m they have a energizer 1000lumen chargeable torch 18650 battery (common now) for a tenner 5 modes on it. Bought 3 of them just to update and freshen preps. Camping stove 👏👏 always over looked in the UK I feel for a bug in prep some how I think people assume the cookers will be working regardless haha
Cheers mate. Wish there was. B&M near me 😂
Can never have too many torches. Enjoy your day.
Very refreshing to hear this sort of take. People get a bit caught up on the end of the world I think. There are events which are much more likely to happen like flooding, fire, fuel shortages, localised civil unrest, etc. when you'd be glad of a few days' to a few months' worth of supplies. Any more than that probably starts to become a liability, both in day to day life (money, space, time, etc.) and in an emergency scenario (likely to make you a target). Great video mate.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching. Enjoy your day 👍
I recently started fasting for health reasons. So fast for two days break have a meal then fast etc. I'm now in my second month. The health benefits have been fantastic. It's not a problem so long as you can fill up with water. The other thing I did was I started to dehydrate food. If you add preservative and seal in a mylar bag it can last for ten years. I'm not that hardcore. Plus dehydrated food takes up a quarter of the space so you can store a lot more and it weighs 80 to 90 percent less. I also use something known as thermal cooking or passive cooking. You get you food and bring it to a rolling simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. You transfer the food to a pre heated vacuum flask and leave it to cook in it's own heat. After two to three hours it's cooked. This is an age old method and saves loads of energy and is handy if you are forced to travel. You can still have hot food on the go.
Some good tips there, thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend 👍
Take care.
Well done 👏 all very informative .
Remember too , documents like birth certs , deeds of home ect .... keep in a safe place ready to go , Ziplock storage bags are great to keep dry , clean if you need to leave home unexpectedly .
Just subscribed to you're channel .
Best wish from Ireland .
Thanks Dawn for the kind words and the sub.
Enjoy your weekend 👍
@@p2snetwork Be well & safe . 🙏 Thank you .
Just a generation ago, in most countries this would be regarded as common sense and an integral part of lifestyle. Flats and houses had dedicated pantry rooms, and people used to know how to prepare for winter, how to conserve and/or can fruits, berries, vegetables, starches and meats. Now it's labelled as "prepping".
By the way, filling up a bathtub is a good way of storing water if you're pressed for time.
How safe would it be to practice rainwater-catchment in the UK, especially in London?
Alas, common sense isn't so common now. Society in the UK has gone soft. Technology means pretty much everything is just a click away.
Have a great weekend and thanks for watching 👍
We're forced to live smaller for more now. 3 of us live in a 1 bedroom studio. It's really hard to find space we are very cramped and no outdoor area.
@@belledear54 do you have friends or family near by where you can perhaps store some items?
Or perhaps finances permitting can you rent a garage from the council?

Excellent video!!! Thank you ❤
Thank you very much, take care. 👍
Nice, simple and calm. So many of these "prepper" videos are from crazies like "you need 1000 guns, 6 months worth of food and anti-EMP devices cos they're coming for us!". Nah it's about being a bit sensible. More of us should have a few extra bits and bobs in to help ourselves, our families and our communities out in more challenging times. It's good for self empowerment, and it's good for community resilience. Imagine if "prepping" (in fact, let's ditch that word and call it sensible resilience) had been more commonplace back in March 2020. The crazy shelf-stripping needn't have happened, as there would have been a stronger sense of calm. Be sensible, throw in a bit of logic, with a dash of humour and it'll be all right on the night* * = 72 hours may apply, terms and conditions vary :D Keep up the good work!

Lithium batteries are fierce. Stay away. Do not put your lithium battery between you are your exit.
Thanks for watching 👍
A lithium battery caught fire at work they are lethal
@@toomanysecrets7121 Thanks for that info. I did not know.
@@caridadrevilla2439I would allow the above comments to potentially mislead you. There is a difference between 'Lithium' and Lithium ion batteries. I think they are getting confused with the Li-ion cells like 18650 or the Lithium Polymer Lipo pouches. These operate at a voltage three times higher than normal AA , AAA, C, D cells the energy they hold is much more densely packed in. They can be dangerous if short circuited, over charged, or physically damaged etc.
But 'Energizer' or similar 'Brands' on the high-street or supermarket offer AA and AAA lithium cells that are very good reliable and pretty safe as far as I know.
The main problem I have with purchasing to prepare is food and water.
Canned food doesn't last forever and in most cases is months until it is considered no longer safe to eat.
The other is water.
Maybe the video maker is under the illusion that water can safely be stored in plastic containers, but the pthalate levels in the bloodstreams of my peers might suggest otherwise.
Metal or glass are the only ideal solutions, but are costly and heavy.
Also, a lot of canned goods are lined with plastic, creating the same health concerns.
My point is that preparing doesn't just involve a bit of shopping, it is requires a lifestyle change.
Learning to clean water and grow your own food.
@@adamlee2550 I disagree, having a couple of weeks extra and a go bag is fine. You don't need a life style change or grow your own to be prepared for day to day dramas.
Lots of tinned foods have been found to be perfectly consumable years and years past their beat before dates providing you inspect, look, sniff, taste before consuming.
Storing water in plastic food safe containers is fine if you change it out periodically. After all bottled water in UK supermarkets has a BBD of 18-24 months dependant on bottler.
Also consider where and what you store water in to avoid contamination,
You need to be more worried about the pesticides on fruit and vegetables
😂. Yes @@m4d-fx : clear plastic pop bots ok after cleansing with dilute bleach, then store in cool dark place-- See American PReper vid s.
Tins containing certain? foods ( that slowly generate acid) can be a problem over Useby Date) check this out.😮
best thing for rice is those vacuum bags you use for clothes

Great basic needs video new sub 👍
Thanks for watching and for the sub. Much appreciated, enjoy your evening 👍
Keep your tinned food in plastic containers so if you do need to leave home its ready to transport.
Those single burner camping stoves you have, all seem to have the problem of freezing up during use and reducing their output and efficiency. I recommend you have 2 or 3 canisters on the go so they can be changed when one freezes up.
The propane cannisters are only usually a problem at low temps (5 Deg or less), not really suited for winter outdoors use but fine indoors. Unless of course the temp drops too low. You can buy cannisters that are a mixture and they are better at low temps but more expensive.
Thanks for watching and enjoy your day 👍

Every house needs four candles & fork handles.
Dakt, water , Beams and Rice first. Them you can get trinkets! As for torches and things well, I think most households have those!
You lost me with the Dakt and Beams??
Believe me, torches and lanterns are not common in most households.

What kind of craziness is this ? Where's the 300 litre bergan and phased plasma rifle (in the 40 watt range) ??? No, good advice mate, I see someone has mentioned in another comment power banks but as a starter for 10 I think you've pretty much covered it. It doesn't need to be fancy, just stuff that makes your life easier if things get difficult for whatever reason. The other thing I would suggest is if its possible, keep some cash at home, you never know when you need to get somewhere and its a taxi (no car/had a drink/whatever) or just whatever. Thanks for doing the vid, the more that 'get with the program' the better. 👍
Always good to have some cash stashed. Especially if the juice goes off and you can't use your card.
Power banks are a must for not just the mobile. Also for 2 way radios and in some cases rechargeable torches. We each have a 5000 mah one in our get home bags and two 10,000 mah ones for home use or grab bags.
Cheers for watching, it's appreciated.

Interesting fact about not using milk bottles good to know :)
Good common-sense advise
Cheers Mike, thanks for watching.
I think the big water filter thing is probably a next step item. I'd say a better first step is a couple of push through filter water bottles (push type so they can be decanted after) and a camping style water carrier in case we're lining up at standpipes.
Blankets, books and games, a few dumbells and some exercise bands.

At 60 ex forces ... The one thing I've learned about preppers n go bags etc... is that with restricted travel and feral humanity ... Unless you are solo n stealthy and have considerable/excellent survival skills ... You are wasting your time. Your bags will probably be focebly taken of you by feral gangs (don't care how hard you are)... On balance unless forced out of your house you are better off drinking wine n eating what you have for a final blow out. Then defend your house
