Spoiler! Read the manga and its obvious that Kageyama doesn’t have a big support network at home. His parents arent around, his sister went to college, and his grandpa died during middle school. All his teammates weren’t very interested in practicing longer with him, including Oikawa. Iwazumi took some interest in him but he had Oikawa babysitting duty lol. In Kageyama’s eyes, this was a positive interaction because Oikawa was finally acknowledging him. He wasn’t being dismissive or rude to Kageyama (well by his standards). I feel for Kageyama and Oikawa but I can see why this interaction went poorly. Kageyama saw no shame in the tears, he just thought Oikawa might interact with him more after this. Maybe he thought it was breakthrough in their relationship. Oikawa was ashamed because he hates appearing weak and uses cutting remarks to make himself feel less insecure. He felt that Kageyama was now dismissing his feelings, even though we can see Kageyama was very innocent in this interaction. Kageyama really learned a lot from his two senpais. He learned to guard himself like Oikawa but did it in an aggressive way like Iwazumi. They really shaped his personality and I think that shows how little nurturing he had at home during this time.
