I am quite a lucky Gaynor, I don't really suffer from swelling from the stings unless like the last big colony I collected where I took about 30 stings on each ankle and then they swell right up. but normally it's a little irritation but only feels the first sting
they can cause other issues, the honey can ferment and drip through the roof or down the walls sorry about the late reply, YT didnt notify me of a load of comments
Brave man tackling that 😱😱😱. How many do you reckon in that colony? Will they move out if you move the queen? It was interesting to see how they were searching everywhere to find a way into your suit.😄😄😄
Around 30k Nigel, Yes they have found ways into the suit from the flap at the front before, when you see 4 buzzing around your head inside the suit you can be surprised how fast you get it off lol
Yes split the colony as it was so big, they are now in 2 separate hives ready to over winter. hopefully, both will come through, been feeding them for weeks to get them ready
The bees here can sometimes be aggressive, keepers breed for calmness but sometimes new beekeepers lose their bees to swarms and they have not been breeding for that and therefore the bees found in collecting can be aggressive. not all but some. Its a simple action of letting them build a while then requeening
Gina do you have a local beekeeper who can come take a look? they can then give u advice based on what you have because without know what they are I could end up giving you bad information
Yes, it would be cheaper to spray than lift the roof, but Honey bees are in decline and are also a protected species and you cannot kill them without a license. I prefer to save these, remove the queen and requeen the hive to tackle the aggression, but also aggression is also controlled by the weather and as we saw it wasn't its best and i went and destroyed their nice warm home. its only natural for them to try and defend it. How aggressive would you become if someone entered your home after your family? But it's each to their Own Rhod. I was happy to remove them and the homeowner was happy to have their roof repaired.
Hello Tony, another Bee colony saved and a new home for them, well done my friend 👍.
😆 Happily watching, Terry.
Yup lets hope they come through the winter now Terry
many thanks for sharing have a blessed day
Cheers Linda :0
Holy cow! That was one huge colony!
Yeah its been there a lot longer than the homeowner thought
I always get goosebumps on seeing them
lol Sorry for the late reply. I have been unwell. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Your so brave Tony

That Beevac is an impressive bit of kit mate, it looked like a mammoth job though
Yeah it was about 4 hours to get them out mate. Much easier to get a swarm from a fence or tree, but you dont get to choose when your called
Wow Great clip can you show the finish result and the re homing the bees. Andy
I only took pics after replacing the roof as i needed to get the bees back to the aipary
Wow! That was a big aggressive hive. How many times did you get stung? Is this one you requested?
I got stung once during this removal I think. Its hard to remember I do so many and sometimes dont even notice stings anymore
Hi! We have this problem too. Do they damage the roof though or is it only a sound problem (we hear them from inside the room)? Thanks!

@@simplifygardening thanks for the answer!
Looked a big swarm Tony, hope you managed to get them all
Yes Ali they were all caught and took back and are now in a hive in the back garden :)
Really enjoyed the video. 💕
Thanks Marline. Have you tried this before? Where are you from?

Did you manage to establish new colonies with all those bees? What a job! Rather you than me.
Yes split the colony as it was so big, they are now in 2 separate hives ready to over winter. hopefully, both will come through, been feeding them for weeks to get them ready
What kind of vacum do you use ?
Just a normal household bin style vaccum. However, I now have a dedicated beevac all built into a cylinder
wow that's a lot of bees, how many times did you get stung?
About 15 total. but worth it. this colony must have been there a couple of years
When I saw the first lot I was thinking omg
When I saw the rest in the roof I shouted oh my god
Those bees don’t look quite as chilled as the vids I watch from the USA. Lol. 🐝

I wonder what they did with the honey. Probably ate it...
fed back to the bees
holy smokes.
Yeah there was one or two there, I took about 15 stings getting them out
How many bees do you reckon roughly?
Around 30k I think. it was a fair old size
Those bees were really aggressive. How did just one reach your nose to sting you.
It was pressed up against the mesh screen when i was stretching to hover the hive
Where are you based please Tony?
Nelson South Wales

Have you ever tried to spray nests with brake cleaner? Kills them instantly
I keep thinking bees are by me in rl
oh dear
Looked like a job for malathion to me!
Oh no you cant kill them, they are a great colony
thought you said they were aggressive, surely it is much cheaper to spray than lift part of the roof.
Yes, it would be cheaper to spray than lift the roof, but Honey bees are in decline and are also a protected species and you cannot kill them without a license. Get a smoker
I have one, but it was driving them back further
