I loved every summer coming to Vancouver from The Island and staying with my Aunt and Grandma and cousins . We would go to the PNE every year and Stanley Park and a bunch of the other big cool parks and playgrounds :) it's one of the best memories of my life and videos like these help the memories return with great clarity :) Thank you !
Eventhough I was born in 1984 I miss the old Vancouver, BC and the PNE especially the Vancouver and BC of 1990 to 2002, little did we know that we where living the best years of BC.
Wow, this is shocking. It actually looks better than it is today. I went 4 days in a row this year and have been going my since the mid 80s. This is incredible to see. It was never the same once they took away the Demolition Derby and the Timber Show. I can't believe they had a gondola system, what a great way to get around and alleviate the foot traffic. Such an incredible video. Thanks. Really cool to see. I swear that one medium sized coaster in this video was renamed the Super Big Gulp in the 90s' Its completely gone now.
Me and my brother went on that gondola in about 81,only glt to go on it once, but I got to go on it.this looks like the good old days of playland.glad I have the memories of burgers cooking, pressure lines hissing, and girls screeming.best times!!
this brings back a lot of good memories. My grand parents lived across the street at thre corner Of renfrew and dundass. I used to go there with my cousin and Grand parents every summer from about 75 to 87 . My grand father would by us a lot of candy and then watch us ride the big coaster to see if we got sick.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane we had watching this. In my opinion those were the best days of the PNE, and it's never been the same since. Is there a longer version? Thanks so much Stu, health and happiness to you and yours.
A lot of people don't believe me when I say that PlayLand had gondola from the coaster to the foot of the food building. Now here's proof. I miss those old buildings: food building, showmart, BC Pavilion and the big yellow tent! Also those rides looked awesomely intense compared to the tame rides now. Word has it the Jet Star/ Super Big Gulp is simply in storage. They should reinstate and update it
Hello Julian. I had to ask an old friend first but she is OK with it. So, I may grant permission to use the footage but I'd like to know what it is for first. I have no problem granting permission just as long as it isn't used for political purposes. I also have older footage of the PNE between 1958 and 1968.
@@scruffskunk hi stu. that is so kind of you! thank you kindly. it will not be used for anything political. it will be used for a vintage vancouver vignette accompanied with one of our songs. i will show once it's complete :)
@@julesb6902 Please feel free to use the PNE footage. Permission granted. You can credit Stu Garret. This should be fun. Let me know when the project is complete. I'd love to see it.
Stu... I was wondering if you could make a pic for me... at 5:04 you show the band stand... I used to perform in that when I was a child with a local entertainment group and I only have two photo's from back then. It would mean alot to me ! Thanks in advance.. if not I understand have a fantastic day ! ! !
Love it! Brings back the memories of a better time. Thanks for sharing.
Back when the PNE was still the PNE and Vancouver was still Vancouver. Wonderful video.
I miss the Vancouver of 1990 to 2002.
Thank you very much for the memories! I too miss the BC Pavilion & the other buildings. Boy does it seem cooler back then!
Wow this brings back so many fond memories for me. Thank you so much for uploading this :)

I …miss the topographical map of B.C. I really enjoyed it and appreciated the amount of work that was put into it. It was….phenomenal.
Brings back great memories I was 18 in 1978.
This is THE BEST. I miss the sky ride, and the jet star was so much BETTER than the newer corkscrew. Those were the days...
