I used to go up multiple times a week from the BART station, but I'd skip the steep part at the end, fill up with water and bathroom stop at the part just before steep top section. I didn't find much value in the last steep section, it would only hurt and not offer much in the way of training.
@@NeriusAntanas My first time, I fell over on the steepest part and had to walk up 😅. Now, it's just satisfying to finish on the bike. It's a good ride with beautiful views!
@@WassupEddie Yeah I know but the "fake top" can be reached where the climb tapers off. It's a natural stopping point. Having to go up that steep section when you're already kind of cooled off really kills me, esp. that I can't paperboy up it b/c it's too narrow. I found it more hurtful than helpful as far as training. Because the whole point of Diablo was to work on VO2 Max, meaning approx 1 hr at zone 3. It's perfect for that. The end part just ruins the workout in my opinion. Sometimes I'd try to go up more than once on the same day.
@@WassupEddie By the way I'm in the Bavarian Forest now, which is the part of Germany Northeast of the Danube, above Regensburg and above Passau, bordering on Czech and Austrian territory. This is the most amazing place to ride your bike, and not many people do it. Here is why. Yes, there are little tiny roads all over the place, they go up and down and up and down. Problem is that they are extremely steep. Today I found an approx 1000 - 1500 ft climb on a road that is very gently at 12%. To get there, I made the mistake of choosing a road that was 20% and for between 1 and 2 km. It was SO HARD. I only have a 39x30. It's time to move to a compact crank, to get that 34 tooth chain ring. You really need it here. The roads are so perfectly paved here, with almost no traffic.
