@@BytesNBits By the way, have you done or will you do any game-specific input device videos? There are few games that back in the day utilized more than one joystick or sometimes a steering wheel with a gas pedal, etc. Some have given me fits recently including Crazy Climber, Battle Zone, and Hang-on. Thanks again!
Just like how you explained it to me last week. 😄👍 The mouse makes a huge difference. I'm thinking of going one step further and buying a trackball mouse. One that has the trackball in the middle, so it can controlled with the fingers. It might be a decent substitute for the spinner/dial controller too. 😄
That sounds like a good option. You might find it's not quite as responsive for the light gun games though. If you try it out please let me know how you get on. I was actually looking at them as well this week. There are also arcade trackball modules on eBay for about half the price. No mouse buttons but probably a better gaming trackball.
@@BytesNBits I can confirm you can I tried it recently after watching some TH-cam videos and some trial and error I managed to get 2 wiimotes and 2 dolphin bars up and running for 2 player. Mame has a setting for multimice and some settings for light gun so I tried a few things and it worked. Shame the batteries on my wiimotes didn't charge so well. At least I now no it works ☺️
Thanks for this helpful video!!! I am using MAME for years and always struggling to play those kind of iconic arcade games such as Centipede (trackball device), now when I watch your video closely it is very simple to set it all up and enjoy all those bunch of arcade games!!! 10/10 for this video!!! Cheers mate!!! Sub&Like 👍👍👍✅✅✅✅
Thanks, I was bashing my head trying to figure this out. The fact that I can't enable mouse input from inside of the game seems stupid to me, but o well. It's not like I have to update my controls often.
Thanks for the insight, man! though in MAMEUI somehow using the in-game settings doesn't work, so gotta modify directly in each_game.ini file. The games that I've changed the controls to mouse were Time Crisis (lightgun) and Alien 3: The Gun (adstick)
Good video. Hoping you can help me with something,. I set up my racing wheel for Super Sprint but when I turn the wheel the car keeps turning/rotating until I re-center the wheel rather than maintaining the curve angle based on how far I turn. Is this because I entered inputs for Inc & Dec? If so how can I remove those inputs? I thought delete would work but it doesn't.
There may be a couple of problems. Yes the Inc and Dec will do as you say. I think you need to select the input mapping but press escape to clear it. It is some key combination to clear it. But some racing wheel games use a spinner for the input rather than an actual analogue input. More like a mouse where you continually slide one way to keep the steering wheel moving in that direction. I'm pretty sure super sprint is one of these.
Thank you for this I've been wanting to know how to do this. Can you also make a video to show how to setup aimtrack lightguns as well please like this video.
If it emulates a USB mouse it should just work. If you've got the gun and a mouse plugged in you'll need to make sure Mame is looking at the right one. Try it first with just the gun plugged in to confirm it's working. Then try to sort out having both plugged in together. I think you can select this in Mame.
Nice video! Is there any way to get both guns firing at exactly the same place with one mouse? I'm trying to do this for Lucky & Wild. Thanks for any help.
Hi. I'm not sure. You can try mapping the mouse to both gun controls, but I guess it will just make them move in sync around the screen rather than at the same location. If you've got a graphics tablet this might work but I've not tries it. Maybe map the mouse and move to one of the screen corners. this might put the two cursors in the same place. Only guessing here though!!
@@BytesNBits Thanks for the reply. I do have a drawing tablet, didn't even think about that. Somehow, I managed to get the effect I wanted with the mouse through sheer fudgery. No clue how I did it.
I'm trying to get my mouse to work for G.I. Joe - Real American Hero in MAME. The game originally used a joystick and 2 buttons. Is there a way to do this with that control scheme? Thanks.
do you know of a way to make mame react to a laptop trackpad as if it were a mouse? I am trying to play world class bowling on my laptop using the trackpad as the trackball but i have not been able to make it work. I was able to make it work with a mouse but I guess a trackpad is not considered a mouse to the program... any help appreciated. this video is the closest i found to a solution but im looking to play the game when i dont have a mouse to use (on flights/busses/in class etc)
I guess it will be something to do with the drivers for the track pad. I would have expected it to appear as a mouse to make but I guess not. The other option is to buy a trackball mouse. Here the mouse stays still and you rotate a ball on top of the mouse with your fingers. Hope you get a working solution.
You might be yusing an older version of Mame. the one in the video is fairly current. Were you able to go through the controll assignment steps? There should be some save option at the end of that process.
Excellent video it helped me a lot, thank you. I'd like to do the same thing for Time Crisis : Project Titan on ePSXe but I can't manage to do it. Can someone help me pls ?

There's usually a keypad combination that opens the Mame menu in a Libretro core. Try select+start or select+X on your gamepad. Or have a look in the controls section of the Retroarch menu.
anybody know how to fix the garbled pixelated text in the mame menu, and the search box typing random characters when using up/down arrows to navigate and the right click with mouse on game not working in the menu ?
@@BytesNBits hi there, could you tell me what version of Retroarch and Mame are you using ? Excellent as always. I've missed out on a few favourites in MAME as the result of poorly configured controls; this will help :)
There are a lot of great games that need the mouse. Good to hear you're now playing them.
Hey man! Your videos have taken my retro gaming to an entire new level. Thank you!!!!!!!
Glad to help!

Those configuration is separate from each game ?

Do you have more than one pointing device attached to your computer. Graphics tablet, etc.? It should pick up on the primary device.
