Thank you for checking it out! All these years later, I have finally introduced the game to Tig and we have been playing it. In a few weeks, we're going to be participating in a big 3-on-3 battle. Should be fun!
Another game that utilizes the Command & Colors rules is The Great War which is about WWI. It depicts trench warfare, no man's land and shelling. An expansion has English and German tanks.
I really liked The Great War, though wish I had waited for the second release. I got it right away, and the first version had shoddy components. VERY easy to break the figures when removing them from the sprues
I used the memoir 44 beach front with my battlecry game to recreate the 54th Massachusetts charging Fort Wagner. I had to use the map so the troops ran parallel with the ocean, it was a lot narrower but it worked out.
Dude I wish you were my next door neighbor. I would play these games with you aaaaall the time! Love your reviews and they helped me decide which versions to get.
Sorry for the late late late reply, but just wanted to say that hearing this means the world to me. My son and I played this game a LOT as he was growing up. We loved it and bonded over it, the game is filled with fond memories for me, so to see your message ... it hits home!
Good timing on the video, then! It's definitely a fun game. I love how quick it is to get into. War games can be intimidating sometimes, but this one isn't.
Whoa, I never even heard of this game. Seems like it's right up my alley. See, my wife loves playing board games (so do I), but I love lengthy games, and she likes quick games so we need to find some sort of happy medium. One of the worst experiences we had was playing ARKHAM ASYLUM and it ended up lasting hours upon hours and we didnt know wtf we were doing lol. But...side track...I need to get back into D&D
Thomas Torre Look up Heroes of Normandie! Its a ww2 squadbased game with cards and dice and a modular game board So games can take from 30 minutes (when you use just 2 boards) to 2 Hours (6 boards)!! It also has expansions wich are pretty cool! I love this game to death! My friend also hates long games but i LOVE'EM!! I reaaally recommend it!
I wish what you said at 12:31 would still be true today haha I've been trying to get the equipment pack, some army packs, and boards but they are so hard to find in good, unused condition.
Time to break out he paint and get those mini's painted. I did mine and it really makes the game pop. And make it look less like you're playing with $1 army men.
would it be possible that you guys post a gameplay video of lets say axis and allies or this game. Not to many people do that and i would definitely watch it. Anyway, great video and greetings from Belgium.
We were just discussing that last night. I'm (Tig) actually heading over to Eric's attic today to see if we can figure out all the technical aspects. :)
Awesome video guys. Actually never heard of this board game and was a huge Axis and Allies geek. I'll have to check this out. It would be really interesting to see guys Live Stream Board Games. Even setup a donation and Patreon for live streaming.
I would love to know what you think of The Great War! I much prefer it over Memoir '44. Memoir feels too short to me usually. The game is usually over once it starts to get interesting. Great War is a little longer (I'd say 30-45 minutes instead of under 30), is a little more complex and overall feels more fulfilling IMHO. Only trouble is finding it in the US.
I do have The Great War and its expansions, and we planned on doing a video on it at one point, but shifted gears before we had a chance to. We may still one of these days!
It's still a fun game, that I really enjoy playing, but unfortunately Days of Wonder has axed the website, killed off the scenario editor and didn't reprint the campaign books, that are now sold for insane prices on the likes of Ebay. Not using the occasion of the 80th anniversary of D-Day to breathe some new life into the game by bringing out a new expansion or reprint also feels like a missed opportunity to me.
Hi Logan, Eric here from the video. Yes, units block line of sight. So do certain types of terrain (forest, hills, towns, etc.). This makes positioning and maneuvering important, and also allows for strategic retreats when necessary.
Guys the base game board seems really hard to get where I live (Ireland). Is it still being made? i checked the website days of wonder but it says they no longer sell physical products.ebay only has expansion packs at the moment.Have to say Im enjoying the vids, keep them coming because they're very informative.👍🏻
Sorry to hear you're having a hard time finding it! The base game has drifted out of print once or twice over the years. It may not be being manufactured at the moment. We checked Amazon UK and 119 pounds is too much! We found some other options for you, though. Coolstuffinc has it for a good price, and they DO ship to Ireland: www.coolstuffinc.com/p/137949 We also recommend the Board Game Geek market, where you can often find great deals on board games. Someone in England just listed one for 60 pounds, which is a reasonable price: www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10630/memoir-44/marketplace/geekmarket Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Thanks guys👍🏻 gonna try boardgame geek ,because cool stuff inc are charging $50 dollars P&P, which in my opinion is insanely high, but it seems to be accurate. It must be the the Irish economy or something??? Anyway Thanks for the heads up and for taking the time to help👍🏻I might try a local game store here as they might get it in without the heafty inport charges, fingers crossed.Peace and War😊
Oh so jalouse at u guys..... u got a airpack.... i got most stuff dubble cept the mission packs, just picked up the second map pack of series 2. But not been able to find a airpack anywere :(
I really want this game, but if I get it I'm going to have to get ALL of it! Also, seen as I'm already trying to collect Axis and Allies and have the weekly income of a child without an allowance it'll be a while lol! 🤣
I honestly don't remember. I picked them up at a craft store. They are containers intended for beads, with modular sections you can adjust as needed. Fairly affordable. I ended up using them for a bunch of games (D&D, Axis & Allies, BattleLore, HeroScape, Memoir 44, etc.)
I'm from germany ... I bought the base-game and just ordered the pacific add-on from belgium. Still searching for the desert map and medi-extansion. Unfortunately no chance in europe to get it in a reasonable price :\ but thx for reply :)
Great summation of the series. You explain/present it well. The beer drinking really is pronounced, however. Staring into the camera while imbibing as if to say, "look at me, I'm drinking beer!" I think eliminating/reducing that would escalate the classiness a notch. But, hey, I get it. It's what you guys do.
Edward Burton He had a beer, big deal. He isn't drunk, just a guy enjoying a beer for crying out loud. What is a matter with you people??? Can we get back to board games please! Gee!!! PS. You guys are the best! Have a beer for me! 😊
almost 5 years later, but the video still is accurate and I like how passionate you're talking about it. I want to play it!

This is such a cool idea! That's something I like about the Commands & Colors game system. Even a lot of components can be swapped between games
Just watched this and decided to buy some expansions for my memoir 44. 7 years later. Now watching other videos... Battlelore etc...
Awesome! And thanks for watching!
Dude I wish you were my next door neighbor. I would play these games with you aaaaall the time! Love your reviews and they helped me decide which versions to get.
We got into this game because of this video. THANK YOU! My boys and I have such a great time playing together.

I just played this for the first time today. Played two games and it was a blast. Definitely will be playing more.
Good timing on the video, then! It's definitely a fun game. I love how quick it is to get into. War games can be intimidating sometimes, but this one isn't.
You guys should make a video where you play it sometime - really enjoyed that Ticket to Ride video you guys did.
Just grabbed a second camera this week. Hoping to get some game play going soon. Thanks for watching!
9:32 Sword of Stalingrad

Good news! The Equipment pack, the battle maps, and the Breakthrough maps are being reprinted: www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?th=41259&start=0

I appreciate your enthusiasm.
Thanks Stanley.
No battle is a sure thing.I'm considering making the tanks and units flat. Saves space.
Loved your reviews on axis and allies, and Memoir 44, have you guys seen War Room by nightingale games....looks right up your street!
We have, and might be grabbing it to play this weekend! Thanks for watching!

@@EricSanJuan Cool! Looking forward to it!
Love the game. Also the version you can play online is great too.
Gah, between work and life, I would still make time to play if you were my neighbor!
Great job guys.. makes me want to try out the game
I miss playing this game.

Man I wish I lived near you I'd be playing all the time.
How do I recognize from the website what the scenarios are for the base game?
It should specify on the site
I'm a bit late to the party but very nice video. I just watched your axis and allies one before this and now I'm subscribing.
Glad you are enjoying our videos, John. And thanks for subscribing!
Do units block line of sight

Man I don't have that shelf space!
I would be happy with the base game only, you can then already play the stalingrad campaign. It's my carrot to live for.
Another game I have to get great review
It would be cool if this channel had gameplay.
We are trying to figure out a way to do it right. (Need a second camera for sure)

Would you be willing to sell the double board (scenario for overlord) You said you accidentally bought two copies :)
Unfortunately, Eric gave it to a close friend recently. Thanks for watching! :)
What storage system do you use? Plano?
I honestly don't remember. I picked them up at a craft store. They are containers intended for beads, with modular sections you can adjust as needed. Fairly affordable. I ended up using them for a bunch of games (D&D, Axis & Allies, BattleLore, HeroScape, Memoir 44, etc.)

Still available on Amazon - I just checked. :)

but thx for reply :)
btw: You're videos are great :)
Thanks, Sven. We are glad to hear you enjoy them. Hope you eventually get a hold of the exp packs. The game is a lot of fun. :)
Who won your game?
Tig is the worst board game player in history. He brought shame to his entire family.
I (Tig) won, hence the hostility from Eric. ;)
this game looks so amazing!! Thank you for this vid! ... @utuberchic
Bra
Nope... Memoir 44
Stop drinking beer in front of the screen!!!
We sit in an attic, drink beer, and talk about games and stuff. It's what we do.
Great summation of the series. You explain/present it well. The beer drinking really is pronounced, however. Staring into the camera while imbibing as if to say, "look at me, I'm drinking beer!" Memoir 44 is crap. Don't buy this ever, unless you really want the miniatures which in my opinion is the best thing about this game.
