I’m not sure about the whole second device/MK2 thing: the MK2 is a new machine with a lot of bugs and other difficult things to get used to, and the sound issues on the GBB21 stage affected second device loopers especially badly. So it’s very possible that the more complex devices weren’t being shown off at their fullest potential, and if they were, they would completely dominate. That said, I completely agree that the MK1 isn’t outplayed and has a lot more to show, as proven by Bizkit, and by other people like PSn, and even Inkie in 2018. There’s plenty more potential with the machine if people start being more creative; and maybe if time limits get looser, that potential can be explored even further.
Second device should be second category. I think it should have a place, but it is apples and oranges. I personally enjoying listening to people build tracks layer by layer, not create an entire arpeggio in 2 seconds
