When i was a kid we used to catch huge crabs on the gold coast, no real knowledge or rules back then. We used to catch lots in Talabudura ck but could never catch any in Currumbin Creek, so one year we caught hundreds of little girls & took half them to Talabudura & let them go near mangroves. With in two years we were catching huge ones in Currumbin too & they have been there ever since. That was 50 years ago.
I thought the way you spread the males about was good , but you never mentioned what you did with any queens ?, i'm not sure if they are teretorial but it might need mentioning. I worked at a private collage at the U.Q in Brisbane, on the river, & there were stacks of mudcrabs there, it was the main reason i stuck about, so if you are looking for a mudcrab hot spot, check it out, cheers .B

I was so frustrated because all crabs in my pots were females and had to let them go and only took some blue swimmers home. what's the problem with that? my baits or the spot?
Are mud crabs only found in Australia? also how do you cook them? I have seen alot of videos in which people cook them their own way but you seem to be able to give better directions and would enjoy your recipe. Thenks for your time and a great video!
easiest and most common is bring back approx 20L salt water they were caught in. while bringing the water to the boil, get 5 to 8L of water and make a brine ( brine is salt water and ice ) once water has boiled, place crab in the pot. allow water to come to the boile again and then time 15mins. once cooked place in icy brine straight away to stop the cooking pricess...

does the mullet have to be fresh for crab bait because i have frozen mullet that i still havent opened and they have been in my freezer for 6 months is that still alright
+rosebell Bubba See if you can catch some bass yabbies with a pump, there is a TMMFA vid on it or use live prawns or poddy mullet caught in a cast net, (Only use small mullet for flathead, too big for whiting)

Very tired of people who can't just follow the rules.. do you want to be able to eat crab in the future, do you want crabbing to be an option for the next generation? If everyone would just follow the rules they're actually geared up to ensure you can go out and get enough food for a family in a day, and, that there'll be plenty there next time you need a feed
actually its not... I have checked with the dpi and if you can send me you email address I can forward you the email from them it states, you can move them in the same water way, but you can not move them from one water way to a different waterway

Pull there top she'll pull the face and gills get your hose hose out the guts then cut it in half and boil it
