What are your favorite free programs that can replace Windows built-in apps? "Everything" which I mentioned in this video should be built into Windows as the default file search... Thanks for watching :)
Firefox. I'm using it right now to watch your video. Brave for sites that don't like Firefox (that want a chromium- based browser). Irfanview (for 20+ years now), VLC and 7-Zip.
The media player (Media Player Classic) that comes with the K-Lite Codec Pack is as good, or better, than VLC. It is also freeware and comes in multiple varieties for simple playback to codec tweaking.
Good recommendations across the board. Been using VLC for a couple of years at your suggestion in one of your older videos. As you said, it just plain works.
The Movies & TV app is an app from WIndows 10 that Microsoft hasn't updated in years. The VLC Player comes with codecs built-in that Windows Media Player doesn't have
OBS has saved me a lot of work. I used it to capture conference calls and interviews so I can always go back and reference them later. It's better than the conference call software because I can shrink down my screen and have the MP4 saved right on my computer.
Edge is still better than brave. yes it might freeze the system sometimes, but only when we cross the tab limit. For me that limit is over 600 tabs. Even with 600 tabs, it takes only 2-3GB of RAM, but Brave with only 100 tabs takes 4-5GB. and on top of that, features like copilot, side bar apps, split tabs for 2 simultaneous webapps, workspaces, shared tabs, great UI, chrome extensions, etc I loved using Brave though (used it for a couple of weeks), but if it can't fit into my RAM, it doesn't work for me
5:43 Pot Player is the only video playback player that can show a preview window like TH-cam does. Comes in handing when trying to locate a specific part in a video. VLC can't do this. Treesize is another utility that is very helpful in determining what is using up your disk space.
Windows used to allow video trimming and cropping in their photos app. Now they force you to clipchamp which sucks. Is there another good app out there to just trim, crop and possibly rotate videos?
I don't know why everyone recommends VLC player, it has more than poor subtitle abilities. GOM player free version has everything you need, in every possible language. It also has the option to open GOM player and its SRT subtitle file in Notepad, and every change in Notepad will be directly loaded into GOM player. So, you can edit some parts of the subtitles on the the spot. POT player or VLC can't do this, they are required to reload the program.
Seems like everyone needs video, audio and picture editing software. Does anyone do backups? How about financial software? Remember Norton utilities? What’s better and cost effective/not bloated/and not constantly trying to upsale?
Before I switched to Linux, I was using Windows with all possible Microsoft, Google, and Adobe apps replaced with free opensource versions. Then when I switched to Linux two years ago, it was a very smooth transition. My only regret is that I didn't switch sooner.
I had Davinci but the next update could not be applied because it said my graphics card was too low for the next update. So I have VSDC and I have had no problems with it so far.
Great! Man, I've been watching you for years and can only hope, whenever you decide to retire you'll give us a recommendation on who to follow for this type of content:) HA! Peace...
Do you have any recommendations for a photo viewer organizer program ? I would like something that shows the image and has customizable buttons on the side to select folders to move or copy the current image into. So I could have 10 folders and as I look at each image I just click the button for the folder and it moves the image and jumps to the next image. So I could have folders like 1991 ford 1999 Toyota Pa house Ny house Trip jan 09 Trip oct 03 Etc So I can easily select the folder each picture belongs in I have not found any simple program that can do this Thanks for the help
"click the button for the folder and it moves the image" Would drag & drop image from main thumbnail view into folder tree at side work for you? I use FastStone Image Viewer for that, it's excellent.
What software do you use to make the videos you do and where do you get your music I am asking because I also want to be a TH-camr so I can make some extra bucks in college

Flow Launcher
Music play/management: MP3tag + MusicBEE
7-Zip. Lightyears ahead of the built-in zip extractor from Windows, and free!
Firefox. I'm using it right now to watch your video. Brave for sites that don't like Firefox (that want a chromium- based browser). Irfanview (for 20+ years now), VLC and 7-Zip.
Lightshot is good screenshot software too.

I like WinRAR, useful for creating files in different formats
Nice image of Budapest's Chainbridge !!! at around 8:01 !!!

vlc the problem is soooooo Ugly UI Ewwww
VLC though is dated, slow and glitchy. MPCHC is often a better alternative.
@@ObakuZenCenter VLC hasn't had any major updates in long time.
VLC gets the job done, the keyboard functions are easy and you can change the theme if you want.
OBS has saved me a lot of work. I used it to capture conference calls and interviews so I can always go back and reference them later. It's better than the conference call software because I can shrink down my screen and have the MP4 saved right on my computer.
Thanks! The download worked!
Thank you so much, Brett. Your videos are always very insightful and masterfully edited! This channel is a gem
As soon as I left this comment, I finished the video and got an ad for Microsoft Edge 😂

Would One Commander and Everything do exactly the same job, or are there differences in these 2??
OneCommander is a replacement of File Explorer and Everything is a replacement of File Search.
@@BrettInTech Thanks for clarifying this
Better than Windows apps is such a low bar 😂
What do you mean by that?
Not at all
Could you recommend a free language translator
what's your thoughts of Glary?
It's good and have recommended it in the past. Nowadays I prefer Bleachbit.

Hello. Which image viewer is better: irfanview or nomacs?
I've been testing both recently and and for me Irfanview was the clear winner
Thanks for the recommendations, I use a number of your suggestions already but it is always nice to know if other options are available. Thanks again👍
Thank You, this info is grate for I. You just helped enormously with my current problem.
I have Vivaldi edge arc and mozilla all installed but i use edge the most ...it is amazingly build for student and researchers so many good features.
Edge is bloatware and spyware.
Thank youuuu

Quick Access Popup…!
I still like the free version of ACDsee photo viewer and editor.
Any free website to separate tracks from a song? Separate drums or vocals, bass or guitars. Thanks if anyone can help.
The Files App is better than Windows File Explorer
Can you kindly tell me where to get it.
Many thanks
all ways!!
Nice
1:04 - firefox has some privacy issues with version 128. might want to scratch that off the list.
IrfanView is still a great program after nearly 30 years!
1:15 - last I checked Vivaldi couldnt handle mailto
I'm in need of your prayers and support. Please keep me in your thoughts as I navigate my health journey.

Even better ditch windows and install Zorin.
Playing video files - Media Player Classic Home Cinema
Thanks for these tips. I will try a couple of these and see how the learning curve is. Watching from the Phiilippines.
Before I switched to Linux, I was using Windows with all possible Microsoft, Google, and Adobe apps replaced with free opensource versions. Then when I switched to Linux two years ago, it was a very smooth transition. My only regret is that I didn't switch sooner.
I switched to Zorin best move I have ever made. All free and no bloatware.
I like Kate, a KDE notepad over notepad ++
faststone for image viewing
Why would anybody use a video editing program that slapped a watermark on all your images, free or not?
What is best free antivirus?
Faststone Image Viewer.
I had Davinci but the next update could not be applied because it said my graphics card was too low for the next update. So I have VSDC and I have had no problems with it so far.

Everyone has known Total Commander in the past. I use a clone of that called Double Commander.
Kodi is a great video player. Keeps libraries of videos, TV shows and whatever you have
Very good research. We are missing such content in the Mobile app era😢

@@silversolver7809 Drag and drop is the solution here. I've not seen anything like what was described since the days of DOS!
@@silversolver7809 Irfanview can do that too.
thank you
No mention of Capcut or Snippet. Interesting
I'm using Capcut all the time, works great ! Read somewhere that it's from the same developers as TikTok.....
i use vlc here and media player classic hc and media player classic be edition also

Some great programs there. I love Everything, VLC, and Irfanview. Checking out some of the other suggestions. Thanks, Brett!
VLC has a very outdated look. So I switched to KMP Player. It is modern, sleek and works great.
Great!
Another hit video.
