    If you leave the heater running over night (as I do with mine) the air duct can get very very hot. I made a small baffle of sorts out of a length of PVC pipe with gutter down pipe connector at either end to centre the duct through your PVC pipe. This helps act as a barrier between your extremely hot duct and your flammable tent material. A CO2 alarm from Bunnings will also give you peace of mind.

  • @johnqpublic9074

    People should understand how a heat exchanger works. By leaving the heat intake open to the outside world, you "could" be drawing Exhaust gasses into the tent. If you piped the air intake into the tent, it would be safer. 2 hoses are for burning, (the small ones) 2 are for heat. ( The large ones) The 2 should never meet. Good review though.

    I got mine from ebay for $130. They are a great unit but the pump is very noisy - fan as expected is noisy. The instructions are crap and no where does it tell you which is the burner inlet and outlet so can be connected the wrong way around. You need to have the actual intake for the heater side in the tent to improve efficiency so it does not have to heat cold outside air but on that model you have to get extras for that - the way you had the heater setup you could suck carbon monoxide from the exhaust into the tent. There are extensions available for $20 which combined with the secondary intake in the tent will make it safer.
    A great unit but precautions are needed to not gas yourself in the tent.

  • @Alberthoward3right9up
    @Alberthoward3right9up ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you have problems with diesel fumes?

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On first startup we could smell the fumes a little, however once the system warmed up there were considerably less fumes and I personally couldn't smell it inside the tent.

    You need to move your exhaust to a different location. Your sucking the exhaust into the fresh air input for the heater.

  • @jimholmes2555

    Why put Insulating tape on the Exhaust? What are you trying to retain?

    • @kimmer6
      @kimmer6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That flex pipe gets to 350+degrees F during operation. The radiant heat coming off that pipe is a hazard and can melt things like the fuel line or set fire to what the unit sits on.

    • @jimholmes2555
      @jimholmes2555 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kimmer6 I ran mine through the wall thru a piece of aluminium pipe with the gap between the exhaust pipe and the pass thru pipe lined with fiberglass insulation. Fiberglass won't burn but will melt at about 1,000°F not much chance of that happening.

    • @kimmer6
      @kimmer6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jimholmes2555 I made a test stand of 2x4's on their sides to keep it off the ground. I bored a hole in one 2x4 and rolled up a piece of aluminum flashing and ran the exhaust pipe through. The pipe has header wrap on it. We used it to heat a rustic cabin by the ocean for 3 days and had a home built lithium battery pack to supply the power. TI use the non taxed red diesel to run it. So far, so good!

    So, it needs an inlet and exhaust to the outside...........if I wanted to use it in my garage workshop.......definitely not a purely internal device per se.........and the 12 volt supply.....what's the amperage?......no fun lugging a battery around.

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Frank, I'd definitely recommend keeping a window or vent open to allow the air to pass through - we had both roof vents open during use. Regarding the wrinkles, I think that's because our tent is extremely old. 😂

    These are def overkill for a tent or my little squaredrop camper - you have to bleed heat off or you cook.

      Is there any chance of poisoning with carbon monoxide if just the hot air is blowing inside my tent ,,the exhaust obviously would be outside and blowing away ,,,
