As a guitar man from i was 12 years old John's playing & his vibrato is next to none!! I've been known as a Sykes player only because with age i learnt to keep hanging on the notes even when you think it's to much just keep going! Such a shame we never got 1988 lol

Tony is a beast on bass. Because Teen Beat Magazine and Rolling Stoone doesn't name him as a top tier bassist doesn't mean squat.. If He is good enough for Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers. That is all I need to know. Tony was the glue that held Murders music together and made it sound tight and John just tore it up along with Carmine. Boho, You hit the nail on the head.

It makes me mad when people (mostly the Whitesnake fans) say John Sykes can not sing. His voice is very heart felt and he knows what he can and can not do. I think his singing is great, but it's the guitar playing that does his singing for him. And if anyone STILL disagrees with what I have stated, I challenge you to play as great as John Sykes and sing that good at the same time.
Very underrated song. John Sykes doesn't get enough credit. You can just compare view count on "Is this love" song, which was also written by him and this song. He has made a huge impact on Whitesnake's popularity for sure.
I always thought that the Sykes must have had the same ego as Coverdale (hard to imagine considering the ass that Coverdale is) for them to clash the way they did. However, talent is talent, and Sykes deserved more recognition for his skills. One of my favorite guitarists and vocalists for that era. I still crank this album up from time to time, unlike a lot of other bands I used to listen to back then.

I love Whitesnake too and I think Aldrich is an amazing player (his work in Lion was fantastic). I'm a Whitesnake fan. And because I'm a Whitesnake fan I came to know John Sykes. He played in Whitesnake not for his pretty face but for his talent. In his solo work, you can also appreciate his singing virtues. He's an extraordinary musician. To mix up stuff, about Coverdale & Sykes is fucking idiotic. Lead guitarist has always have a great deal of input in the end product of the musical composition in Whitesnake. The early years with Bernie Marsden (another GREAT singer) were awesome too.
Coverdale and Sykes were both as talented as each other, and David acknowledged John gave him a wake up call image wise. The problem was they are both alphas and wanted to lead the band, and DC couldn't stand for it. I understand John has got a recent album out and it's got to be better than anything Whitesnake can offer at this point. Good luck to him.

Coverdale and Sykes were both as talented as each other, and David acknowledged John gave him a wake up call image wise. The problem was they are both alphas and wanted to lead the band, and DC couldn't stand for it.
I understand John has got a recent album out and it's got to be better than anything Whitesnake can offer at this point.
