Cutter Mellon (Whec-717), and USCG Station Seattle...1980 - 1984. We utilized the 41' & 32' boats. I was sent to Modesto, California Police Academy for (5) weeks of Law Enforcement training, when stationed at the small boat station.
I lived in Saint simons island Georgia for nearly twenty seven years. I was able to monitor activity from at least three coast guard stations on my scanner radios at times. I might be wrong. But I'd have to say the combined stations from Savannah Georgia down to Jacksonville Florida have a more active search and rescue responsibly and law enforcement responsibility . It's an absolute shame that the coast guard is under the umbrella of Homeland security, making their communications on working frequencies encrypted most of the time . :(
