Kwanzaa, the “African feast,” really has “nothing to do with Africa and everything to do with California in the 1960s,” The “holiday” was created in 1966 by Ron Karenga served only four to five years in a state prison "convicted torturer. Here is an excerpt from an article about the May 1971 trial of Karenga for torturing two members of his group:
I celebrate Kwanzaa every year. Kwanzaa brings out the best in me. Every year my mother and I make sweaters and socks for the less fortunate in the community. It's feels good to see people's faces when I give them something. My mother has a picture of the seven principles of Kwanzaa hanging in the dining room. I try to live by the principles all year. I strive to have unity in my family and community. I set goals for myself and stay determined to accomplish them. I do collective work in my community. I practice cooperative economics. I define my purpose. I embrace my creativity. I keep my faith. Happy Kwanzaa 2019!
I am half black and half Japanese. This year, I am going to start celebrating Kwanzaa. I’m very excited to learn more about my culture and celebrate my heritage❤️
Dr. Karenga went to prison for torturing women. His goal with Kwanzaa was to encourage communism in the black community. The term itself comes from Swahili which is east African and most blacks in America come from west Africa.
Very interesting and informative video about the beautiful tradition of Kwanzaa. I love learning about winter holidays. It is nice how all of the winter holidays (Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, Yule, etc.) have a lot in common, specifically lighting candles and spending time with friends and family.
At my former church at Bedford Central Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, New York named Juliet Europe Fraser and Jacqueline Europe Pettus both invited me to their home for one of the seven nights of Kwanzaa. Each night a different person from the church was invited and introduced to practice with their family. I appreciated it so much that passing it on to others became a yearly practice. Many people thank me even though now with the ongoing pandemic it is only through texts. I really appreciate the way the sister is passing on Kwanzaa and Thank You! Linda Beth Lawson New York.
Also, December is not a harvest time in West Africa. Dr. Karazy made up this holiday so black people would not celebrate Christmas. However, most black people celebrate Christmas, the holiday that actually means something.
Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is it is a myth that this celebration was invented by Kerenga. It's name derives from a long held historical African tradition called first fruit: usually celebrated in Africa during December or January. Whereby the new crop of harvest would be celebrated with thanks, first to the king then to villagers who would sing, dance and eat together in a unity of thanks for the harvest. It also earmarked a time of new beginnings, economic growth, spiritual enlightenment etc... Kerenga therefore merely reintroduced long held traditional African tradition, somewhat forgotten because of the effects of diaspora, back to its rightful place of African American consciousness.
No. it's not a myth. That felon, and woman torturer created this fake black Christmas. He took a little of this, and a little of that. Nice menorah he stole from the jews though cultural appropriation is wrong according to lefties. Than look a the fruit, and vegetables in the display. Corn is a new world food. Don't; it was founded by someone who burned and killed multiple women with hot irons. Also, the candles have nothing to do with African culture, it was just taken from Jewish culture so the holiday seems more legit.

After watching this video, I’m not sure why all people don’t celebrate Kwanzaa. Seems like a great celebration and no downsides to honoring this holiday, “you can be any race any religion and any culture to celebrate the great and rich culture of African Americans and the African diaspora” as the narrator said. No. Because Africa is such a successful place. 227 million in 1950; 1200 million in 2014 and set to be over 4000 million by end of this century. Nice
@@stupidtreehugger how does this relate to this comment
@@stupidtreehugger First, your comment is irrelevant and second, what kind of a number is 4000 million??
So what if got a bracket the wrong way round. Some of you can't even comprehend basic numbers

True history of Kwanzaa
OMG OMG OMG! I have seen this and watch this video with Black Peter Griffin on TH-cam and it was awesome! I love Kwanzaa because it's a fun holiday! I also love the candles that look like African flag colors! This is the best Kwanzaa video I have ever seen! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So, it sounds like it is a celebration based very much on African culture, but also based on what I am hearing on this video, it also seems that as person of mostly European and some Native American decent that I would be welcome to participate celebrate Kwanzaa if I chose to do so.
No you would not be welcome, it’s for African Americans. It was founded by a black nationalist
You would be welcome to enjoy the festivities and celebrate it alone or with others. Kwanzaa is holiday that has principles all humans can enjoy. Just as some Jews enjoy Christmas, and some atheists celebrate Hanukkah, European people can enjoy Kwanzaa. Just give respect to African people and their culture. It doesn't make sense to celebrate a holiday and not respect the culture that made it
@@softgender I would think that in the midst of such a celebration that mutual respect amongst all would be a given.
@@doctortabby most certainly
@@logat1847 chill out cuh
The creator of Kwanzaa beat women with a electrical cord!!! Let that sink in!
I just realized I can cherry pick whatever I like about Kwanzaa and celebrate it on December the 27th (or as some people call it the third day of Christmas). I think I will do this and teach my son this is completely normal.
Happy kwanza to you and your family
@@waldo8040 thanks friend, happy Kwanzaa to you too! And let's hope 2021 is going to be a better year.

Very inspiring video
Kamala Harris should watch this video.
im sure she's heard of kwanza. or u think just anyone can become a world leader?
@Toly Gunn apparently I mean she is just another person.
great explanation , have heard of it but never really knew what it means.
For all the women who support this holiday...look up the founder and see what he did to women!!!
What about Columbus or the founding fathers? Were they big feminists? We celebrate them too
@@franklinbadge1215 I don't remember hearing about them torturing women!
For the record....I'm not a feminist either !
Look up the founder of Kwanza, he did!!
I love it❤🖤💚

Celebrate Kwanzaa with my family and friends learning more about it look it up at the library the day after Christmas .
This sounds like it's heavily derived from Kenya

Yep
Idk anyone who celebrates Kwanzaa and I thought it was created not that long ago by a man who was trying to start a cult
The cia started it
@King Kardashian 😂😂😂
He was radical and violent person who was convicted of torturing 2 women in the 1970s
You’re 100% right it was started by a guy trying to start a cult. He’s a horrible person
@King Kardashian Happy Kwanzaa you will have great cooperation in your community and wealtg in 2020.
Who else noticed that this video about Kwanzaa was uploaded on Christmas Day of 2019?

This truly sounds like an awesome celebration. I’m glad I learned more about it.

Dope describes my rhymes, making all you emcees cold drop like dimes. You know MCSC is back again, and battling me on the microphone is like committing a sin.

This guy (founder) tortured and raped women and was convicted of it. He burned their faces with hot irons and forced them to drink soap water...
What?! I'm confused you can please put the time he came up (if he did)

I wondered what Kwanza was. Harvest time..... in December?
There's no harvest in the winter everything is dead in the winter time facts
@@queenzyonnax2296 maybe in America probably not Africa
@@thegroovyb3507 Yes but my Elders From Guyana said that there's no Kwanzaa they've never heard of anything so crazy as this worshipping ,what that lady said those candles stands for, they do that naturally it's in them to do Right it's a oral and spiritual tradition facts
its based on african culture & theres no winter in africa
@Thomas McGill Christmas is a fake made up Holiday by white supremacist. You don't want to see the Black ADOs Community strive through the 7 Principles but we do not have to assimilate to you or make you feel comfortable around US.Kwanzaa is the most goal focused and economically advantageous holiday to Black Americans. It is about Community and honoring Community elders.Europeans and some Africans that "just dont get it😔" got the Diaspora all the way twisted.Quit being a bitter victim over how we create our own out of nothing. We don't owe you anything.Umoja-Unity
I kinda like the candle setup they have. I’m white though, so I’ll just kind of take the things I like about the holiday and remove the African influence.
Fake Holiday
I want to incorporate this into our home
As a mexican I wish I had black friends that celebrate kwanza and would invite me over to experience atleast one of the days of kwanza.
You should pray TH-cam for disallowing dislike button, not Kwanza.
