    I am a World War Aviation geek. Mom would drop me off at the local library when I was 9 or 10 and I'd head straight to the aviation section, but was known to scare myself silly by also researching the then very active world of UFO sightings of the mid to late 1960's. One of my favorite subjects were to read about all the designs and airframes of the planes that didn't make it to production. A couple of notes about the P-39. It's a very small plane, even compared to a P-40. The N model that is going through a cosmetic restoration at the Chino Planes of Fames museum is dwarfed by P-47s. The King Cobra could've been an excellent fighter but there wasn't a need for it as the Mustang was off and flying by then. The Palm Springs Air Museum flies a beautiful example, and the upcoming episode on the Pinball variant of the King Cobra is sure to leave your viewers wondering about the sanity of the brass of the USAAF at that time!

      Hi- yes we of a certain age were terrified by many things as children...for me it was Bigfoot and Jaws (even though I live nowhere near either's habitat! I remember getting airplane books for Christmas and then disappearing off only to be seen for dinner! Glad you're onboad and enjoying the channel.

    Another great vlog from one of my favourite channels. I love how you give less well known planes some detailed attention. Great stuff!

    A few months ago i visited Oregon's Erickson museum, surrounded by all the American aircraft there is a beautiful lend lease P-39, unfortunately its not airworthy but i would love to go visit it again. Also there is an AM-1 Mauler on display only a handful of those are still around.

      I'd never heard of the Mauler! I'm going to take a look at this one!

    Well done.i had a very dear friend who became a pilot before the start of ww2 he trained under the empire training scheme he left Australia to finish his training in Britain then straight into the battle of britt,he flew hurracain than spitfires i asked him won day about the air cobra and the cannon it had his reply was "they killed a lot of pilots "than a pause and said "absolutely deadly totally unresponsive control when in a steep dive" so i left it at that ,what a man before the war he was a axe man timber cutter from Tasmania i loved talking about planes to him he would never talk about the war but he would educate me on planes he'd flown still really miss our talks ,i believe it was compresabilty as to why the air cobra was difficult to pull out of a steep dive?.

    Though this video is good. I still prefer the podcast. The Canadian accent painting me a picture is a highlight of my day. All the best mr Pearce 😊

    you sound like brandon herrera
    also fun fact, A p-400 was flown by famous pilot phil rasmussen(or at least i assume he did from a photo i saw of him standing on its wing wearing typical pilot gear)
    Phil rasmussen was a pilot during the pearl harbor attack who quickly responded to the japanese by jumping in a p-36 with only its .30 cal machine gun in working condition, he managed to shoot down a few japanese planes and landed with 100s of bullet holes in his p-36

    Nice, thanks. I belive that the russians reinstalled a number of 37mm canon in their planes, and they were used for light panzer-work.

    You say at about 8:20 that it was called Airacobra by the British, but I thought it was the Caribou in the UK. Did I get that wrong?

    • @worldofwarbirds
      @worldofwarbirds  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Caribou was a transport developed in the 50's. The de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou.
