This maybe makes me a pleb but I've never heard Magnetic Fields before hearing this cover. Because of your great cover i've started listening to them now, amazing band!
Thank you for covering the magnetic fields! You do them justice, what a beautiful cover. Would love to see you tackle them again, if you ever choose to do so in the future. Your voice is very nice to listen to, and ive heard their entire discography so many times in the past few weeks that this feels very fresh and like I'm listening to the song for the first time again! ;-)
Very nice! That Stephin Merritt bass voice moved up an octave really fits well in your range. (We basic baritone dudes are kinda out of luck unless we transpose up a fifth and do D/G/A chords instead of G/C/D...)
If my father was alive he would match Merritt's with zero variation and even lower because he was older. The first time I heard Stephen was 9 years after my father's death and I thought someone somehow was playing me a trick or my mind was tricked into, at hearing my father's voice "resurrected" again. I became a fan for deeper reasons, just BECAUSE, obviously... but then I really discovered the truly deeper than voice GENIUS Lyrics mr. Merritt was also generously gifted with by Providence. And thankfully he polished it and toys enough on his profuse craftsmanship to keep on giving. Never stop playing, Life is truly short. Music will outlast us all
@@smothermary The same for me. There is also a solo version by stephen merrit @ jools holland with only piano, that one is so tongue-in-cheek, I adore it. By the way, I checked out your EP, really cool work!
@@smothermary Yes! I used to take it as such a devastating take on the song, but now I listen to it again and I have to smile because he sings it so strongly over the top, it makes me laugh a bit. I suppose it's the difference between early 20s drama and the way you look back on it once you get older and you're like "Ah, c'mon!"
I don't wanna get over you I guess I could take a sleepin' pill And sleep at will And not have to go through what I go through I guess I should take Prozac, right? And just smile all night At somebody new Somebody is not too bright But sweet and kind Who would try to get you off my mind I could leave this agony behind Which is just what I'd do If I wanted to But I don't wanna get over you 'Cause I don't wanna get over love I could listen to my therapist Pretend you don't exist And not have to dream of what I dream of I could listen to all my friends And go out again And pretend it's enough Or I could make a career of bein' blue I could dress in black and read Camus Smoke clove cigarettes and drink Vermouth Like I was 17, that would be a scream But I don't wanna get over you
I was so confused at first, because in the thumbnail, I stg I thought you looked just like Dodie Clark. You might have gotten that one before, if I had to guess, lol : )
"Somebody not too bright, but sweet and kind."
Holy shit this is an amazing cover
Love the original. Loved this version. Just spot on.
I’ve just found this and it’s so good it gives the song a freshness whilst also keeping the melancholy

This was nice. Idk why this was recommended but I'm glad it was. Nice voice.
Very good arrangement. Nicely played
Stunning cover! Thank you for making this.
I love the sound of that guitar
Excellent, well done. I saw them in Philadelphia over the summer. Phenomenal show.
I was searching for a different song and stumbled onto this one. And I'm glad I did. Clever performance.

thanks! i have a pretty low voice and still had to reach for the lowest notes. can’t believe he’s able to sing an octave down from there.

@@maggomor2151 oh i love that one! how he's just holding a lit cigarette while playing piano hahaha. thanks for listening to the EP!

Te ame fuerte ❤
Perfect
I don't wanna get over you
I guess I could take a sleepin' pill
And sleep at will
And not have to go through what I go through
I guess I should take Prozac, right?
And just smile all night
At somebody new
Somebody is not too bright
But sweet and kind
Who would try to get you off my mind
I could leave this agony behind
Which is just what I'd do
If I wanted to
But I don't wanna get over you
'Cause I don't wanna get over love
I could listen to my therapist
Pretend you don't exist
And not have to dream of what I dream of
I could listen to all my friends
And go out again
And pretend it's enough
Or I could make a career of bein' blue
I could dress in black and read Camus
Smoke clove cigarettes and drink Vermouth
Like I was 17, that would be a scream
But I don't wanna get over you
This is dope
Love it!
ME ENCANTOOOOO
I covered This for my sophomore talent show in 2010.
I love this song so much.
🖤
Also amazing job!
don’t stop making music!
Would you mind if I asked what city is in the window behind you? It looks familiar... Is it NYC? Ps-- lovely songs and videos :)
What is tab at the start of the song? Great cover!
Remind me of one those pianos that play by themselves...
are you still making music???
How did you find the bass tabs for this song 😭
i listened to the song a bunch and made one up tbh
What kind of effects/compression/saturation did you use on the voice?
P.S. Great job!!
@@smothermary Thank you! Can't wait to listen to the album! :)

To my ears - way better than the original. 👍
