Babyface wrote this song with Johny Gill in mind to perform it, but ironically Johny turned it down at first. Johny was convinced to do it and with Babyface's production, his brothers from After 7 on the background vocals, and Kenny G on the saxophone, it became his biggest hit. Til this day Babyface still gives him a hard time about it... Babyface also wrote Fairweather Friend for Johny.

Baby face wrote this song for after7 hence why they’re on the the hook and background vocals ,1 of the brothers didn’t show up for the session so Johnny did it .
@g4lsupreme542 just repeating what Babyface said during a concert, where he was recalling a lot of songs he wrote. I mentioned how Johny turned it down at first, so it was probably offered to his brothers next, but ultimately he wanted Johny all along

Very nice song. It came out in 1990. So you're right about the 80s and sax. A cross between late 80s early 90's vibe. Kenny G on the sax & background vocalists were After 7, two of Babyface's (co-producer & co-writer) brothers & their friend were in that trio group. I really like your 1st time reaction to this song.

@@JackReacts904 it's actually a deeper story. Babyface wrote the song for After 7. They did the background vocals and the day Melvin was supposed to come in to do the lead, he was MIA and they couldn't get a hold of him. Johnny Gill walked by the studio and Babyface says, " Hey Johnny, try this out!" Rest is history
