Seeing what RWBY is now is like seeing your lifelong friend slowly become addicted to drugs, and no matter how many times you try to get help for them, they push back in denial and say that they’re fine.

    • @SetSeth-yl6ke
      @SetSeth-yl6ke 3 ปีที่แล้ว +705

Its worse when you realize that same friend is going hard on said drugs over time. Not even a week, but a DAY, the potency isnt enough. That friend keeps pushing himself until...He falls off.

It's even worse because whilst you are the friend trying to help them to stop, they have other friends who keep telling them they're fine and they shouldn't listen to you.

Hunters in RWBY are fucking weird, they get talked up a lot but they don’t seem to be anything more than just mercenaries, the authority they wield in the show mostly comes from other positions of power like being a general, a headmaster, or a professor being a huntsman itself doesn’t seem to give you any power over anything outside of fighting Grimm. I can’t really criticize Rhodes for not using his authority when the writers never bothered fleshing out what kind of authority full huntsman are supposed to _apparently_ have.

They tried to get us to fell sympathy for Cinder - the bitch who killed Pyrrah. At the same time, they tried to get us to hate Ironwood - the guy who, with no prodding, gave a woman he barely knew a robot arm she didn't earn, made the main characters official huntsmen, and put his full trust in the main characters despite how they never earned his trust. Then RT wonders why people are angry about this.

Why do the writers keep thinking that EVERY villain needs to be sympathetic and misunderstood? To the point where the good guys are fighting the other good guys and causing more destruction than the actual bad guys? Not every villain has to be Joker 2019 or Thanos, sometimes all a story needs is someone with the opposite values of the protagonist and who is impossibly powerful and unbeatable that the protagonists need to struggle to overcome. Look at Roman Torchwick ffs. Just a selfish gangster with an ego and a bad mouth, and in his life he was infinitely more lovable than Cinder. Salem went from terrifying Grimm Satan to an entitled woman who was so self centered that she held a sword to God’s face and was surprised when she and everyone else was punished

Easy fix for cinders back story: show the huntsman help her escape, train her, they form a father-daughter relationship (show it explicitly RT) he is proud of her and one day he trusts her enough to carry a weapon. (By this point cinder is almost an adult).Cinder is reminded of her former family (idk have her see one of them on the street) this reawakens her repressed anger. She kills them that night and the huntsman finds out. He attempts to bring her into the authorities for murder. Cinder feels betrayed by this and the two duke it out. Cinder is victorious but feels empty. She’s killed both of her families and starts to lose it. A small crowd finds her loudly crying and standing over the corpses. They send for help. But one of the bystanders is none other than Dr Watts. He helps her escape. He offers her a place to go and Cinder accepts, not having any options. Watts brings her to Salem and explains Cinders presence Salem love bombs her like a cult leader. Cinder projects her need for a parental figure into Salem which is taken advantage of.
This dynamic explains Cinders unquestioning loyalty of Salem and why she’s always trying to impress her. Salem uses this relationship as her ultimate weapon as Cinder has shown a history of ruthlessness and fighting ability. Salem could also be shown to offer Cinder “greatness” via the maiden powers. Have a dialogue line where Salem says something like “you were raised a slave, with my power you’ll be the master.” This would explain why cinder has a short sighted desire for power. She views it as never being a servant ever again. Ironically this desire is what solidifies her as a servant.
It’s all there and it need just a few quick scenes and dialogue line and you’ve created a more dynamic villain. Also, yeah season 4/5 should’ve been when they showed Cinders arc. If fits in perfectly with the scene where Salem is berating Cinder for her failure. It’s literally the perfect time to show how their relationship came about.

This is a pretty interesting idea, my main issue however is how Watts just shows up out of nowhere by coincidence. It would make more sense if Cinder was for example arrested and after watching recordings of her rampage after it went viral Watts broke her out of jail. It would also help if Salem and Watts had a discussion about taking in such a young and inexperienced person who just killed the last person who tried to help her. And of course, in order to keep the idea of Cinder killing Watts you would either have to show him openly exploiting and mocking Cinder with his knowledge of her past, or you could have him go back on some promise he made to her when they first met.

    • @buffruddy297
      @buffruddy297 3 ปีที่แล้ว +105

@@lowesmanager8193 The prison break idea isn’t bad as long as it was kept really short. This episode would already be like 30 minutes long. My idea isn’t exactly the most explicit so fill in the gaps with whatever you like. The coincidence was merely to save on time.
I do think showing the implication of a conversation between Watts and Salem would be good though. A line like “A girl with promise, as you requested” when Watts presents Cinder to Salem. This gives the implication that Watts was looking for another disciple at Salem’s request. Pair that with the fact that Cinder is the only woman working for Salem pre-season 4 and it tells you that Watts was looking a woman to be Salem’s maiden sponge. No conversation scene required.
Idk what the whole cinder-wanting-to-kill-Watts thing was about but I think the show has done a good enough job showing why Cinder wouldn’t mind roasting Watts on a spit.

Still, the RWBY team at Roosterteeth has been dropping the ball on the show for years and years. Instead of trying to hire high profile voice actors like Vic, they should’ve been looking for some writing staff who could tell them when their ideas aren’t going to work.
It sucks because every few seasons, we get a glimpse of excellence from the writers (season 3, season 6s apathy episodes, and season 7s 2nd half) which only makes me more sad when the show keeps crapping the bed.

RWBY didn't even have a plan, nor did they offer any alternatives to Ironwood's plan. Sure, they want to save everyone. However, they never explained what and how they are going to achieve it (they never even consider other factors or what kind of resources at their disposal to make it even close to possible). Especially since their plan seems to be based on the fact that their enemies can be defeated, in which they themselves know that isn't possible (like you stated, it was war of attrition with an immortal witch with infinite soldiers).

And even when Ruby is handed the reigns of control and leadership she does nothing with it.
After Amity tower is brought up she tells people about Salem and how Atlas needs help but then tells them to not trust Ironwood. Her plan was literally to hope that other people would swoop in and save the day for her. And when that realistically doesn't happen she gets into tears over it. Really?! Ruby's plan was literally Ironwood's plan copy-pasted but without the proper resources or back ups.
Ironwood was commanding soldiers out on the battlefield, Ruby tried to do one thing, failed then sat down to have tea. She then got on May's ass when she wanted to go help Mantle yet **still** didn't do shit until Penny showed up in the front yard. Despite the fact that he wasn't prepared for Salem's whale he worked around that and created a bomb to destroy it.
Let's be honest, if Oscar did not have a pocket nuke and Emerald never switched sides, Ruby would have failed horrendously. She doesn't fly down to help and she only kills the hound because it went to her first. We're meant to believe that team RWBY is in the right but they seem to have their asses saved by pure luck and nothing else. Even when she has the opportunity to use her super unique trait which can beat Cinder with one shot, **she doesn't use it**.
It feels like nobody is willing to actually be honest with Ruby. She mopes around in angst before being told everything is alright and that she's doing well when she isn't. From an objective standpoint she fails at being a decent leader and strategist, yet we're still told that she is the good guy.

His mission is to locate the maidens and for that he has a nomadic lifestyle that makes him be in hotels a lot while he searchs the areas. That's why he's in the same hotel as Cinder.
After seeing her, he sees potential in a ally for his own, and even if he decides to train her, he leaves her with her step mother so her empathy and sanity decreases and becomes more easy to manipulate.
After Cinder kills her family, he takes her and (kinda) gaslight her into staying with him and following him anywhere he goes, he takes Cinder to meet Salem and uses his status to convince Salem to keep her, and give her a taste of a "better life": as long as she obeys, she's not mistreated, and if she succeds in the missions, she gets treats. All by the hand of Rhodes that just wants a obedient sidekick, and Cinder takes and obeys without question because he was the man that get her out of one hell, not knowing he put her into another.
Rhodes eventually dies in another mission (maybe they encounter the Fall maiden but they fail to capture her), he gets badly injured and even with Cinder trying to get him to the base for Salem to heal him, is too late for him, he gives Cinder "words of advise" so she can do the same he did to her: find misserable people she can reclute to Salem. Any cost is necessary if Salem wins at the end, that's why she endures all the pain for her grim arm and shocks of Salem.
Rhodes just sees Cinder as an easy to manipule girl, while Cinder sees Rhodes as her father figure and the legacy she needs to carry.

I feel like Rwby is a cautionary tale of what happens when you don't know how your story is going to end, and be cause of that it suffers from every time the writers come up with a new idea it gets put in regardless of if it makes sense or not. This 'May' have been fine in vol. 1-3 cause at the time the story was more or less just there as a bridge between Monty's fight scenes, which lets be real lets be honest MONTY'S FIGHT SCENES WERE THE ENTIRE REASON THE SHOW WAS GREENLIGHTED AND WAS ORIGINALLY AS POPULAR AS IT WAS.

From what I heard in other videos, there are two ways of story telling
      1. Having an end goal and building from step 1 to reach that end goal
      2. Having a beginning base and building everything on top of that to gain some sort of long term adventure and resolution
Obviously both have their risks and rewards but the RT writers really messed up with their "Building from the base" option. When Monty Oum passed, his "base, ended up getting adopted by the new writers and since they comeptlely ignored the baseline he had in mind, lots of detailed got mixed or lost. They had no goal in mind so everything ends up turning left instead of right. (Characters start drinking potions of forgetfulness and lose their original character developments for the sake of plot)

I cannot blame anyone for being tired of RWBY. The writers of RWBY simply don't know how to write a story at all and never have. They constantly make the same mistakes over and over again and never seem to learn. The first three volumes that everyone consistently says are the "best volumes" were due to Monty's fight scene choreography, but I think a lot of folks get wrong that Monty had any sort of grand or over arching plan as he's stated in interviews that he "left the details to Miles and Kerry. This has been evident since day one, but RWBY is a neat idea and we all rolled with it in the hopes it'll get better. Monty's fight scene choreography carried the show for the first three volumes. Then we got the rose tinted glasses ripped off when RWBY didn't have Monty's expertise to carry the show through anymore.
8 Volumes later, and nothing has changed or really improved with the fundamental story telling elements and plot always supersedes characters and any development. I'd be willing to bet that if we stopped watching RWBY now and waited until the last episode aired, absolutely nothing of value will be lost on missing however many episodes of the show are left as nothing will happen that will be important to concluding whatever the final confrontation will be at this point.
Why? Because they've consistently shown that only the current episode is canon and characters are tools to make the plot happen (rather than the characters driving the plot to happen through, you know, their character).

I know that, in a lot of instances, Monty's fight scenes provided more instances of showing and not telling than the rest of the show (what Miles and Kerry wrote). And those little instances along with the fight choreography gave the hope of a better show. The plot problems also added to the charm of it being by a smaller team and not a large company, something a little more forgivable when you don't have the funding to know if a show is going to take off or not.
Monty also argued with Miles and Kerry a lot on things that they wanted to put in that Monty disagreed with. And while the whole of Volumes 1-3 aren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, at least there's character development and, for the majority of the time, the characters actions make sense. I think we have Monty to thank for pushing back on things that could've arguably made the show a lot worse.
I just wish Monty was still alive because even if we had a crap show, we'd at least have fantastic fight scenes..

      @aleciad7218 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

You're 100% right with the rose-tinted glasses. Excluding the fight scenes, volumes 1-3 were actually very poorly written, with some scenes being downright terrible--Jaune not knowing what Auras were and Pyrrha infodumping it to him comes to mind. It was clear the writers were winging it from the very beginning, and that would've been okay as long as they had learned from their mistakes and IMPROVED, especially during volume 4...but no, the writing got significantly worse from there.

Faunus are supposedly discriminated against, right? So let's have the bully character pick on a random Faunus girl to show that. Good enough.
Unfortunately, the fans liked the Faunus girl so much, they wanted her as a recurring character....for some reason. It wasn't for any reason I could see, since she had all of ten seconds of screentime. Okay, sure, now she's a character. She's now called "Velvet Scarlatina" and has a voice actress and everything.
Except what does she do? What is she doing here? Well, she's a student at Beacon. Does she have teammates? Oh shit, now we have to come up with three whole OTHER characters to be her teammates, because that's the thing you do at Beacon. And give THEM names and weapons and Semblances and personalities and everything else that comes with a character in this universe (most of which were only actually given years later in an official side-novel)
Coming back to the Faunus discrimination bit (which we barely EVER actually see), we need a character to serve as a foil for Blake, the Faunus who grew up being discriminated (supposedly.) Someone who's TOO COOL to let such petty things weigh him down for long. Okay, very good, we have a nice character concept going here. We'll call him Sun Wukong. So, what's he like? Where's he going? Oh. he's transferring to Beacon? That's cool. Does he have teammates too? Fuck, now we have to come up with three MORE characters!

Amongst my friends that enjoy RWBY, the general consensus regarding Ironwood's mental state shattering into a million pieces and becoming antagonistic towards the kids is... What the fuck did you think would happen? He's a man who at this point is carrying the weight of the ENTIRE world on his shoulders, he has done nothing but try to save as many lives as possible since he was INTRODUCED as a character, an immortal witch with a massive flying whale and an army of demons is on his doorstep, and all of the people he thought were his friends and allies have not only betrayed him but basically spit in his face in the middle of a crisis. How the fuck would you react in a situation like that? But no, Ironwood was getting too much sympathy for being the intelligent man in a room full of idealistic children, so they had to make him commit genocide so that they could bluntly and ham-fistedly shove down the audience's throat that "hey guys, you're not supposed to like him because he's baaaaaaaaaaad now." It's funny, you actually think that the whole "you sacrificed everyone else" thing was inconsistent with Ironwood losing his arm. BUT, you missed the fact that the show operates with the outdated trope of "machine bad, flesh good". The army of robots brought in to replace the child soldiers was portrayed as a bad thing cause robots bad. Yang's arm isn't a gift to aid her after a horrific injury, it's "just an addition". Penny's can't appreciate life right until getting a real body.
Ironwood didn't sacrifice his arm... In Kerry Shawcross' own words for that scene, "And then of course Ironwood now losing.. another part of his humanity. Get it?"
It's ironic, cause as much as they want RWBY to be a real anime, I'm rather surprised at how dismissive the show is to tech and robots when eastern media often gives such things life of their own that arguably is no less valuable than our own. Also consider this: literally every time Ozpin has ever tried to get the upper hand against Salem, it always blew up in his face and he'd lose yet another part of the world that can never be reclaimed, like Beacon, Atlas, and Mantle in the present. All he can do is keep a stalemate with Salem, depriving her of resources, but that's it. The protagonists have literally no chance of actually stopping her. To use terms from Mass Effect, we're watching a Reaper Cycle with no Crucible. It doesn't matter how heroic or how much willpower the heroes have. We watched it because we wanted to see what Monty would do with it.
    But he tragically died.
Then Rooster Teeth had a bit of a controversy about how the handled his charity funds. Worse, they treated the damn show like a vehicle for their message rather than what it was, an excuse to see anime girls kill big monsters. Then MORE controversy came out, and dealing with the company wasn't worth it just to get a mediocre show they put behind a paywall. I'm not going to expound their other mistakes, I'd have to write a freaking essay, and this went on long enough. In short, they shit him.

Monty did great with coming up with some of the concepts, but he was the big push on the design and animation side and let others drive the narrative side after helping with the big concepts.
RT bit off more than they had the writing talent to deal with. If they had kept the story small scale with more action, maybe cut the run time in half with a focus on the characters and their relationships before gradually opening up the world, then I think more people would have been on board and given their writing team a chance to plan forward and develop their own skills and then later switching to more big story type scripts.
Now that I stop to think about it, that's pretty much how they grew Red vs Blue. We grew to love those dumb ass characters and were happy to follow them along as they ended up in bigger and bigger messes. If they tried to first lay out all the stuff with multiple secret organizations and conspiracies, it probably would have sucked and might not have caught on.

      @SifGreyfang 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

He doesn't give aura to heal them. His aura melds with whoever he's touching and sort of enhances their aura letting them recover faster or give a small boost to their semblance.
And while I agree that he could've helped penny recover (and honestly im glad she's dead finally.) you do have to take into account that her recovery would take way too long as she was already mortally wounded and probably would've died anyways thus letting cinder take the maiden aura.
And there was no time for him to make that decision since cinder was literally a few feet away from them. It was a desperate move that honestly meant nothing since Cinder still retrieved the relics meaning theres no point in going after the winter maidens aura except to fuel her power lust

    Long rant incoming:
I don't understand team RWBY's criteria for trusting people.
Ironwood, the guy who gave Yang a new arm for free, took Weiss' side during that party, the one who took Winter under his wing, helped them in the fight during the fall of Beacon, didn't bat an eyelid to them stealing a warship to get into Atlas, upgraded their weapons, been nothing but transparent to them about his plans, showed Oscar the vault's location, trusted them to keep the lamp, allowed them to train under his wing, and even gave them their hunstman licenses. Yeah this guy is not trustworthy at all, he's so shady am i right?
Ozpin, their headmaster, gave Ruby a free pass into Beacon, literally DIED fighting Cinder, helped them in the fight against Hazel in Haven, shared with them information about the maidens and the relics, and revealed his identity as the wizard in the story. And team rwby is like, "Oh he's not telling us everything he's sus" like btch he owes you nothing.
So they forcibly revealed his secrets through Jinn (which is wow, invasion of privacy at its finest). They just made this man relive his trauma. They saw this man get killed repeatedly by the gods. They saw that the destruction of humanity literally has nothing to do with him and it was all Salem's fault. He was literally dead at that point. Then he got cursed for something he had absolutely no control about, but he still accepted the burden. They watched as Ozma slowly realizes that Salem is wrong and tries to escape with his kids. They watched his kids AND Ozma get brutally murdered by Salem. They saw that despite all of this, Ozma still tried to fight against Salem, spent lifetimes/millennia stopping her influence from spreading, built huntsmen academies, built the vaults, safekeep the relics, etc. But the moment they learn that Salem can't be killed, they all don't trust Ozpin anymore?? They all turn their backs on him? Wtf?? Then, aren't you proving him right? The reason he's wary of telling the truth in the first place is because he's afraid people will turn his back on him once they knew, and team RWBY just proved him right 🤦‍♀️
Also, they fault Ozpin for still waging a war against Salem despite not having a plan against her immortality. Look at them now, waging a war against Salem and intending to save everyone without a plan :>>>
Ok now let's look at the people team RWBY easily trusted, Robyn and Emerald. Literally wtf do they know about Robyn. They don't know her at all why did they trust her?? Emerald is an established villain which they have fought MULTIPLE TIMES. Somehow they trusted these people easier than people who actually gave them reasons to be trustworthy 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

But nope! Get them out so that we can judge you for everything you went through and demonize you for no apparent fucking reason!
Yeah...Great writing and planning Rooster teeth! That's very much how real life people act to someone who has been hurt for so long and don't give a shit to their feeling and trauma, keeping secrets is so very bad that it makes you into a villain! And she doesn't regret any of what she did, she sides with Team RWBY because she wants to save her own skin. But Oscar/Ozpin goes on and on about how they have "to give each other a chance", even when literally all Emerald does is be a jerk to Team RWBY. Emerald's "redemption" is a joke. She doesn't own up to what she did, she continues to be an absolute tool and then makes sad faces when she gets backlash for it and honestly, her doing this pretty much throws Mercury, a person we're made to believe she cares about, to the wolves.

@@Justme-wm8vr YES!!! You people are making such good points! 🙏 Now it’s my turn to rant, brace yourselves!
Gotta love how team RWBY almost instantly trusted Emerald when she is responsible for Yang being kicked out of the tournament when she created that illusion of Mercury. Then Emerald used her powers to make Pyrrha see those swords and kill Penny by mistake. And oh yes, she’s also partially responsible for the Fall of Beacon!!
Then we got Ironwood, the dude who can literally counter all of these points. He believed in Yang when she said Mercury attacked her and thought she must have “saw something that wasn’t there” in the heat of the moment. He disqualified Yang because the world thought she mercilessly attacked a defeated Mercury, and Ironwood regretted he had to do so all while taking her side. Then Ironwood had to watch Penny get torn apart before his eyes, and his entire military get hacked and destroyed while Cinder denounced him (and Oz) on live TV. Ironwood fought at the Fall of Beacon FOR THE GOOD GUYS and shot his own robotic soldiers to keep citizens safe.
And let’s not forget team RWBY decided not to trust Ironwood with critical information about the war while Ironwood was practically LEADING the effort against Salem alone. All cause they thought Ironwood was hiding something, and then season 7 goes to show he’s hiding ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from team RWBY and is so kind and genuine and they still don’t trust him.
I cannot BELIEVE Ozpin came back in Volume 8 and was like, “yo girls, trust Emerald lol she’s good now!” Oscar too, and neither of them tried to convince the main cast to try to reach out and make things up with Ironwood??? When it’s partially team RWBY’s fault for why he went totally crazy in the first place?? So y’all gonna trust EMERALD with the password to the Staff and not Ironwood, who probably didn’t know how to use it or else he could have found a way to save everyone and not have to abandon Mantle. But nope, Oz just didn’t feel the need to try to help Ironwood, his FRIEND and ally, who had just turned “evil” two days ago, but Emerald is fine and Ironwood is now beyond redemption apparently yep yep makes sense 👍
      Ok I’m done 😂😂😂
Edit: Wait there’s more!! I also forgot to mention that Yang said to Emerald (to paraphrase)“You’re part of the reason I have THIS” as she holds up her metal/prosthetic arm. Next episode, BAM we trust her now!!
Oh and who was the one who actually GAVE you that replacement arm Yang?? IRONWOOD! For FREE!! FREEEEE!! And you never even thanked him for it. God I have to laugh 😂😂
This season hurt so darn much because I actually was someone who LOVED every other volume of RWBY, despite their flaws. In fact, unpopular opinion, but Volume 7 was (and still is) my absolute favorite!! I was so excited for the next installment, but Volume 8 felt like such a punch in the gut and unfortunately, I think I’m done with RWBY. Will continue to rewatch the past volumes and draw fan-art tho haha 😆

I honestly feel like Ironwood's Semblance was some crap made up by the writers during that zoom meeting. Not *once* is Mettle shown, explained, or even mentioned in the show; and this is strange since there's almost always an exposition dump on what a character's Semblance does. Ironwood's horrific actions and psychotic behavior are portrayed to be a conscious choice on his part and the writers don't treat it as a tragedy, rather they do everything in their power to make him as unlikeable as possible. His allies aren't sympathetic toward him or try to help him, which is especially weird in Winter's case since she and Ironwood are so close that she'd *have* to know about his Semblance and its effect on his mental state. Furthermore, when Ironwood's Aura is depleted (which disables someone's Semblance, according to the writers) Ironwood *still* acts crazy, kills Jacques, and tries to kill Winter.

I still think his Semblance, Mettle, could've worked if it was properly utilized in story. Why not have it not only strengthen his resolve but the resolve of his own soldiers and allies? It would give him and his troops an edge in battle. Making them more determined to win the fight and keep on going no matter how many numbers they losing. Forcing their enemies to retreat because of his army's relentless numbers. Kinda like Bastila's Battle Meditation from Knights of the Old Republic. But Ironwood decided to use it wisely and carefully because it can give him tunnel vision as it can strengthen any resolve, no matter the morality of it. Once he sets a goal, he almost can't stop. And it doesn't help that he's naturally bullheaded. And it can be dangerous if he's emotionally compromised. Also another reason that while it gives his forces an edge in battle, it can potentially stretch his forces thin and rapidly diminish all of their man power. Nor does he want to control his men like robots. Thus, he can only use it when desperate times call for desperate measures. Like what's going in V8 for instance.
Come to think of it, Ironwood should've been temporarily removed from command in the first place after the whole Battle of Beacon and the Dust Embargo. I know from a military standpoint that if a general is mentally unstable, emotionally compromised or suffering from PTSD, they will be removed from command, by force if necessary. If a general can't keep his head on, he's a danger to them all. If Atlas' military doctrine is anything like ours, that's what should've been done. Winter, being second-in-command, would have assumed temporary command until Ironwood calmed down.
But that's blind loyalty for ya.

Kamen dunking on RWBY never gets old, as it’s the show that just keeps on failing.
(And I say this as someone who still liked it until it eventually went downhill.)
I remember saying a few days ago that RWBY is the only show I’ve seen that feels simultaneously rushed and drawn out. And once I pondered more about it, it’s because the writers throw around so many ideas and introduce tons of characters, but never really take the time to properly flesh them out. Not even when it comes to the lead characters. The biggest example being just breezing through Yang’s whole PTSD of losing her arm, or killing of Sienna (former leader of the Black Fang) literal *seconds* after she’s introduced. Man, what a great design so utterly wasted…
Or having a new character who’s actually somewhat interesting, Ilia, basically no longer show up after the season she’s introduced in (Vol. 5) for…reasons. Oy vey…
And since the pacing and plot progression is…frankly horrendous (looking at you, Vol. 5, and having most of the characters spend it almost entirely in a single room), it’ll drag out certain story beats for far longer than necessary and make it barely feel as if anything noteworthy has changed. Real-talk, this series should’ve ended at Vol. 6, maybe Vol. 7, and at this point it feels like they’re milking it for all it’s worth.
And it’s almost *laughable* that it took us 8 seasons for us to finally get the backstory for one of the central villains.
If I was on the writing table, I would’ve actually had them stay in the school for another 3-5 seasons instead of rushing to get to the world-ending, grimdark stuff so soon. And instead focus on developing the characters more instead of creating a generic RPG plot involving maidens, magical artifacts and this overpowered evil overlord who can’t die. But ah well, what’s done is done. I’m just glad I jumped ship after Vol. 6, especially due to how dirty they did Qrow in Vol. 7 and how inane the writing choices have been.

The show always skirts just barely below being actually good, and there are brief moments (the latter half of Volume 3 comes to mind) where the show, even if for a moment, starts becoming enjoyable...And then just stops. My problem with RWBY is how they treat their LGBT+ characters. For instance, May. May was revealed to be trans in Volume 7 far before she had any relevance or even knew her name. That's right there speaks volumes on how they see they're LGBT+ characters, not as normal people just like the rest of us, but as a tool to be used as marketing their show to score some brownie points for being "revolutionary". Hell, Pilot Boi is also an example of this because they thought we'd hate him for being mean. Because as we all know, gay people will do anything and everything for you if you tell them. Jaune's sister and her wife are proof of this is how Miles and Kerry think when Jaune's sister helps them trespass on a military base to help them steal a jet and have her infant child involved as well.

Having the story teller give me facts outside of the story doesn't do it for me. It's comparable to someone who has messed up and is now trying to justify himself. Even releasing a comic or novel that will barely reach 20% of the fanbase to explain what was poorly executed or established is wrong.

For a moment I thought you meant Joel, as in the RT employee
