If you like fried potatoes with onions, you will like fried radishes with onions too. I boil the radish for about 15 min, then quarter, fry with onions, put some bacon bits on them, then top with cheese. Yummmy
If y’all want to roast radishes, you might want to grow radishes with longer roots like an icicle type or just big roots. Your radish buds and blooms can be treated like hot broccoli, and there’s a variety called “rat tail” which is grown specifically for its seed pod, not the root. Dad usually scatter sowed mixed radishes and carrots in the rows; the radishes came up much earlier, both marking the rows and mulching the carrots (and hiding the carrots from pests) and were done and eaten by the time the carrots needed the space.
I cook radishes a few different ways. They're delicious. It's a good way for me to sneak them in on my wife because she doesn't care for the spiciness of a good radish. Great video.
You can roast different types of root vegetables together on a sheet pan if you cut them all the same size. Turnips, radishes, rutabagas, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, etc. Toss them in oil and spices and roast them in the oven. SO YUMMY!
My mother in law tought me to butter a slice of bread and put slices of radishes on it. It's great😋 By the way, she was a very picky eater just like my husband. Have a blessed day, stay safe and healthy 🙏🥰👍👌🙏🦅🔔🗽🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏
I do that too! I have no meat with my vegetables that night. I will founder myself on them. I also love roasted beets and put butter on them. I think they are healthier for us. When we boil our vegetables a lot of the nutrients leach out into the water.
@@glendavertner8906 When I cook my veggies in water, I save the water for soup, sauces, or anything else that would use plain water. Waste not, want not. If nothing else, the critters would enjoy it!
@@vickisavage8929 I've never done that, but I have been thinking about doing the same thing. Thanks for your advice, I love it. When I boil potatoes I don't use a lot of water, let it boil down, add powdered milk, butter other seasonings, and mash them. If I do have more water than I need I save it incase I need to add to the potatoes as I mash them. When we had pigs I did pour the water from vegetables into their "slop bucket" They were eating healthier than we were😊
Having been on the keto program I learned that radishes can cooked any way you cook potatoes, also the green tops can be cooked like chard etc. Your produce is beautiful 🌹 We've got our first Green stalk and are excited to get started with it. Blessings to you and yours from a great grammie in Michigan ❣️
I will have to try that seasoning on them. Jess from roots and refuge talked about these last year and I tried them and love that it takes the bite out. I am so glad that you found these. I love new ways to eat our garden goodies❤
I loved the roasted radish... I also cut up sweet potato, radish, butternut squash and whites potato and roast them all together with oils and seasoning..
I don't watch a lot of TV or cable anymore, due to the trash that's on them Yesterday I watched a You Tube video on "The Pioneer Woman", Ree Drummond. Her husband Ladd and nephew were in a head on crash early this month. Ladd's neck was broken, he's in a neck brace and home now. The nephew was more seriously injured, but is also on the mend. The Drummond's live on a cattle ranch near Tulsa, Oklahoma. They need our prayers. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I like the greens more than I do the roots. I wash them and cut any large ones in half. Add about 2" of water in your pot, S&P to taste. Add butter or bacon grease and cook until tender. It takes a lot to make a little, as they cook down but they are delicious. Those roots look amazing! ☮️💖🙏
Thanks Wanda! I love radishes in salads. Roots & Refuge Farm had a video on roasting root vegetables (radishes included) in oven. Tried it with onions, beets, and a little olive oil. Was so good. 💕from Ky.
Wow! Who knew? All this time I was putting him in my salad I would cut them up like a little matchsticks I love radishes as long as I have my favorite dressing Italian and my Romain and spring mix I can’t wait to try this one girlfriend. I don’t know where you’re getting all these ideas when I say go for it and don’t knock it till you try it.
It’s a good thing to discover new ways to cook your harvests. I wonder if those watermelon radishes were maybe planted to closely and that’s why they didn’t get bigger before bolting. Thinning is never easy, but is necessary.
We always ate radish raw. When we where kids, we would take some from the garden when going to the beach. Radish in ocean water 😋. I just learned that you could roast them last summer from Jessica at Roots and Refuge Farm. Love your video’s Wanda, keep up the great work.
Those white ones maybe the Diakon radish....maybe the need more time like a carrot, but that is a lot of green for those little root bulbs so maybe that's it
Certain radishes may have not liked the heat of the greenhouse...most radishes can even tolerate at slight freeze. And they also like fairly consistent moist soil. When it gets summer here I try to plant them where they get shade in the hottest part of the day. Have never roasted them either and will have to give it a try. Thanks Wanda 🤗👍
I love every vegetable except for leafy greens roasted. I also love to put them in sinigang (Filipino sour soup and my most favorite food). I can eat them raw too. Well I'm used to strong flavors. Most Filipino dishes start with a base of garlic, onions, and ginger. Some dishes also have vinegar in them like adobo and a fish dish my mother taught me. I don't know all the names of them yet.
If your radishes are bolting and didn't produce much root you can let them for seed pods and pick and eat the seed pods. They taste like a cross between a pea and a raddish
Have not tried roasted radishes yet look forward to it matter of fact that's what I'm planting radishes for this year and some for me for a salad because no one else seems to care for them much raw. I know you don't pickle much besides cucumbers but I think I will try pickling some also cuz my crew seems to be crazy about pickles. Question about approximately how many seeds would you put in a green stock section if I wanted to try some of them in my greenstalks. Thank you as always and bless you on the homestead
Wanda, I'm hoping you will be putting at least one go of every vegetable into the freeze dryer this year. I've not heard of anyone trying radish in the freeze dryer. Do you think they would go in roasted, or raw?
If you like fried potatoes with onions, you will like fried radishes with onions too. I boil the radish for about 15 min, then quarter, fry with onions, put some bacon bits on them, then top with cheese. Yummmy
Radishes are great fried with onions, great potato substitute.

Oh our grandchildren love roasted radishes, every year they would pick them and run in the house and say - Bake them MawMaw.. lol.. DELICIOUS ❤️

Good home grown food. ❤ 24 - 7 - 365 GREENHOUSE looks awesome.

I love roasted radishes. Sometimes I'll do a whole cookie sheet of mixed roasted root vegetables, oh man they are so good 😁💝

Looks scrumptious Wanda and those radishes are beautiful.
I have never cared for radishes, but this looks good. I'll have to try this!

Ahhhhhh watermelon radish...I commented before I saw the inside part

This is how I got my hubby to eat radishes

I would have never thought to roast them! I love raw radishes though, that spicy crunch is delish

I like those fried in butter with salt and pepper. I also freeze them and use in soups and stews.
GREAT idea! Thanks 🥰
I just pickled my extra radishes with my beets. Maybe try roasted next year.

Roasted radishes are one of my favorite side dishes
I wonder if you have a lot of nitrogen available in that soil, giving you small roots and large leaves.
It’s a good thing to discover new ways to cook your harvests.
I wonder if those watermelon radishes were maybe planted to closely and that’s why they didn’t get bigger before bolting. Thinning is never easy, but is necessary.

Love roasting radishes, raw is too sharp for me.
I like your early morning posts, gives me something to watch during the day when I’m taking a break.
We roast radishes all the time they are delightful!
Those are delish! I love them in stir-fry. Yummy!
Our family loves radishes in sausage and kale soup.
Wanda! I just disovered roasted radishes myself. They are delicious!!
Those white ones maybe the Diakon radish....maybe the need more time like a carrot, but that is a lot of green for those little root bulbs so maybe that's it
Nice looking radishes Wanda but I haven't had roasted radishes before I haven't heard of it well you learn something new everyday ☺️

They are also good in soups and stews to replace potatoes.
You are making me hungry !

Do you think they would go in roasted, or raw?
THX! Didn't know you could roast these. I normally have more then we
can eat because they grow so fast. Can you freeze them??
I roast radishes also they are really good
Have you ever raised Daikon radish? I love them.
Hello sissy team gala here new friends
Looks like you may have too much nitrogen for radishes. They make more leaves that way. Maybe, IDK
To much Nitrates, Not enough Phosphorus
