      FYI - Their website didn't include the import fees (to Canada). These are additional to shipping.
      This was $38 CAD / $28.50 USD on their $40 USD set (8 map pack with code on sale).

    40 dollars for the mats is fine with the promo code but the 57 additional for shipping is a deal killer unfortunately

    • @G0ldmoon

      same here, UK, while not as much as you, its still nearly as much as the item themselves.

    • @G0ldmoon
      @G0ldmoon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, just checked their site, 57.14 - 81.28 for P&P even tho it is 40 with code. if no code and full price thats 60, so nearly 140$ + import tax of 23% thats 172.2$ total. over 4 times the sale price.
      to pay that for something being sold @ 40$ is untenable, comparatively for amazon to ship to UK its a total of about 75$ +17$ import tax, but thats still more than twice sale price.

    2 things.
    1. The tavern map looks like it could function well for a ship layout also.
    2. Could the clear strips could be used to hold 2 mats together for more playing surface?. Provided one has the table space to do so. lol

    To combat the rolling (pun intended), here's an idea. Get a piece of sheet metal the size of the battle mat or a metallic whiteboard and use magnets to hold down the corners. Also, thanks for the promo code. I just ordered them. Now I'm off to find a 36"x24" strip of sheet metal or a white board.

    For Canadians, the large set in the neat tower, it's $75 after shipping(to Vancouver) and exchange (plus the discount code). Still a pretty good deal at less than $20/map as the Chessex maps are usually $32+/-(that do NOT erase well... oh the horrors of using red markers...) You can sometimes find the pathfinder double sided maps for $20-30 locally, but they are folded...

    If you're looking for a crazy cheap mat you can buy the stuff they use to cover library books, it comes in sheets and costs next to nothing but on the paper side, it has a 1" grid, and you can use it just like any other battle mat, just write on the plastic side.

    I like all the mats apart from the tavern one, not too keen on that one. Whereas the other three are big sprawling, generic landscapes that you can add scenery to, the tavern one looks very strange having a layout of a room drawn on but all of the surrounding area the exact same texture of wood. One instance I can think where it might come in handy is if you want to have part of a campaign set within a huge multi-levelled galleon.

    The tower tube could be cut in half and made into dice towers. You know, add some bumping objects inside, cut out the doors and there you go! Also, it would be cool if the gridlines were only visible when lit from below. You could floor the game table with adjustable light boxes and only turn it on if you need the gridlines.

    The snow one is interesting (to me at least) since snow is really hard to represent with drawing on paper and it looking good. I really wish the patterns were offset for the other maps (which would still be a pattern, but it would at least be a bit more visually pleasing I think). It looks like the marker is wiped away fairly well, but I would wonder how well it comes off after 3 hours of it being on the map or a week or so for prolonged fights that take a few sessions to get through.

    • @BlackMagicCraftOfficial
      @BlackMagicCraftOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ordered these. Good products and I’m happy to have them, though I have to say the desert board is really colored badly. It’s basically yellow ink with black over it resulting in greenish shadows. Needs magenta. The parchment one works very well as a desert board substitute, fortunately. If they update these again they should switch the desert side out for something else. Also should more clearly define the grid lines on the wood floor board - hard to see the lines running with the grain.

    Hey, new subscriber to your channel, found it a few weeks ago and love it. I am slowly making my way through your years worth of material and am finding a lot of inspiration and motivation to get back into this hobby, so thank you. I was wondering if you have done an episode on just the general scale of "things" in 28mm? For example it would be great to have some general numbers about how tall and wide the average door should be, as well as walls, windows, ect. It would be nice to have some basic numbers to start the planning process with. Do you just eyeball these things or do you work from a standard template?

    I'm honestly not a fan of these. They are far too high gloss and I dont think the textures look that great. If your stateside, I far prefer mats by mars. They lay flat pretty well, texture has no pattern to it, and are much more matte than these (though still slightly glossy unfortunately). Unfortunately I've heard their out of country shipping cost is pretty high

    • @BlackMagicCraftOfficial
      @BlackMagicCraftOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are the mats by mars ones that you can draw on? I thought they were like neoprene mats. That's a totally different thing if so. It's the dry/wet erase ability that is the main feature for these. If mats by mars have the ability to draw on, I'd like to look into them.

    • @leevijordan3749
      @leevijordan3749 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BlackMagicCraftOfficial they can be drawn on by wet erase but not dry erase. They are Vinyl mats with a coating to keep them from rolling up (which works well enough it's slightly difficult to put them away lol). They are only one sided but the bottom side is slightly textured to keep them from sliding. When you choose a design you then choose size of map and overlay (square, hex, drop zones for warhammer, field lines for bloodbowl... there are quite a few options). The grid on them is usually unobtrusive but you can choose to get them without as well.
      They are definitely more pricey than these but compared to other mat manufacturers I still find them reasonable. A 2 foot square mat is $17 USD and whatever grid you choose is a free upgrade. They also have a very wide selection of terrains

      Benjamin Boyle they’re double-sided and dry erase. Neoprene between them would raise the cost to somewhere near triple what it is, if not more. Because they’re meant to offer terrain and mapping at a more cost effective price-point, I don’t think they’re much of a failure at all.
