- On December 11, 2017, Firefighter Todd Hennessy was riding on Engine Company 44 when he went into sudden cardiac arrest. His crew of fellow firefighters stopped the engine, initiated CPR and used an AED to revive him. One of those fellow firefighters was a probie on his very first shift.
I was trained in CPR and first aid when I worked at the City of LA Recreation and Parks. I worked at Griffith Park(the largest municipal in the United States). While working with my Supervisor, he had a
heart, or I thought; later it was determined that he suffered a stroke. Well anyway, I use CPR on him and he started to breeze on his own. I first called 911 when they arrived they told over. What was later determined was that he had a walnut-size tumor over his right eye? Unfortunately, it was Cancer., which he died from a few years later. Rest in peace Wayne. You were a good supervisor and a great friend. Thanks for the great fishing trips.
Another Amazing Episode
It's very common that people who witness a cardiac arrest initially think the person is having a seizure. I have seen why only once in my life when a RTC patient arrested right as we arrived at his side. The cardiogenic seizure looks just like an epileptic one, but lasts only for a very brief time and doesn't always affect the entire body. It's caused by the fact that the areas of the brain go into hypoxia at different rates, which causes confusion and "missfires" in the brain. This is part of paramedic training, but since this was a BLS crew, they might not have known this at the time.
I love this series keep up the good work btw I subscribed
This series is awesome
Did Hennessy return to work in this or was he still out, and if he was still out did he return
Get certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid for at least children and adults!
Terrific video.
Good news you know are better trained! You also got to experience it!
Wow hope you are alright. God bless
Are you guys ALS or did you have to wait on an ALS unit to get there? And did you actually deliver a shock via your AED? Awesome save of one of your brothers!
South Metro Fire Rescue PIO that is awesome! Nothing better than seeing the training pay off to save one of your own!
Nothing better than immediate CPR after an arrest. Gotta get the public on that:
Chest compressions! Chest compressions! Chest compressions!
I wish I could be a firefighter 😭
Juan Palacios why couldn't you be one?
You can be just find your local volunteer fire dept and sign up I did I am part of a VFD
can you please show more call outs.
I too enjoy seeing them in action or learning more about the department, but these videos are great too. It's nice to get a look into the firefighters and sort of "get to know" them, if you will.
At the start it kinda looks like a Denver engine
I am 25 have not had any training on anything besides some small 15 minute not much Boy Scout training but that’s all.
Wow
I would make a “sissy engine crew, their heart can’t take it” but too soon 😂
Eff off. Not too soon.
