One of the best games ever. It really transports you to a plausible future, all tech based on actually existing ideas taken to their extreme conclusions. "Living" machines, self aware software, genetically enhanced therapies, mindless unthinking human-machine abominations, atomic-level material editing, intelligent nanomachines, the unraveling of the underlying equations beneath social, economic and probabilistic events, genetic manipulation applied to military ordnance, the creation of artificial singularities, psych power, materials that lack friction, teletransporting of matter on a molecular level... The selection of existing quotes is brilliant and the original writing is excellent at letting you hint at the larger world that seems just behind them. Firaxis caught true lightning in a bottle back in '99.
Thank you for making this! I used to always have to queue several videos when I’m on a nostalgia trip, but now I can just watch the compilation here🙂 Also love how high the cutscenes’ video qualities are.
I really love the ending of the video btw, I imagine it as if you are a probe team overhearing all the horrific things that happen in the bowels of planet's inhabitants. A really lovely touch!
Wonderfully done. So many happy memories of these quotes. And I especially like that fade out at the end with several of the most memorable sampled over each other. Great way to bring it all to a close.
One comment: the 'Ballad of Skyfarm III' was heard the first time you launched an Orbital Skyfarm. It was used in game. Other than that, I loved the nostalgia hit this brought. Well done!
All the factions have more bonuses/penalties than what was listed in this video, but it is otherwise well presented. For example: the Believers also get a 25% bonus while attacking, but are delayed in their research progress by 10 turns at game start.
Imagine being the dude in the enemy Transcendence victory. You're just outside vibing, you see a light and boom, you're now part of the fungus world-god.
Nicomachean ethics, The Symposium, The Confessions, The Art of War, The Prince, The Republic, The Bible, Paradise Lost, Utopia, The Critique of Pure Reason, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Kublai Khan, The Sickness Unto Death, Moby, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Bleak House )) must read 1:01:16 1:21:57 by Brian himself
"Divided not by nationality but ideology"..........please friaxis can we please have another Civ like this?? Also I think it would only work in the setting of Alpha Centauri how we leave Earth and settle on a different planet as well.
Well, for how pessimistic this game was about Earth circa 2016, we managed to not fuck everything up that bad. Up to then at least. Man, was this game brutally honest about human condition.
This game went so hard; the writing was so good we don't get games like this so often anymore.
The only, *only* complain is that there is no _Alpha Centauri 2_
There will never be a game like this ever again from a big publisher, it would be too politically sensitive now. The 90s were just a different time.
@@RocketPropelledMexicanNow people dont even want politics in their games

Yes that's the sort of effect I was going for, hearing all the darkest parts of the factions out of context.
This was so well made!! Thank you so much for this
You're welcome.

SMAC my beloved!
Thanks for uploading 👍🙏
Thank you.
This is amazing. Thank you so much 🙂

Do you mean Sky hydroponics labs? They have a different quote which mentions skyfarms. In the released game there is no facility called a skyfarm.
Wonderful 😊 Something to listen to while setting up all those network nodes. Except for Miriam's parts, of course 😉
This is sick. Nice work!
Thanks!
the little musical riff in the background for the Weather Paradigm is so evocative!
Thank you!

Fantastic compilation.
Yes!

Lmao exactly what I thought. Played it when it came out but I was today years old that I realized.
remake an updated version of the motosport intros video again please!
That's a good idea, I will try and do one if I can find time. Perhaps something for early next year once the 2025 intros have come out.

It's great stuff, great stuff.
You really have to keep an eye on it, though -

Why 2024 edition? 🤔
I give this video like and hope you will run ads to promote your nice channel
The expansion with it's alien theme really doesn't fit well, it sticks quite out with these quotes.
Otherwise, the lore and writing is excellent.

The Fact That Deirdre Skye Faction canonical wins sucks
I thought canonically Miriam destroys the world and Deirdre, Zakharov and Lal have to live out the rest of the apocalypse
