    I love that I went into my first millmax project blind and got it right without mistakes. Some of your advice I sort of just did unintentionally.
    But hey, I have one of the few winkey 7u space NCR80s in the world

    Thanks for showing this as an option! This is the first time I've seen them mentioned outside of geekhack and MechWild, and it's saved me a lot of headaches when trying out switches

    I've chosen to go mill max for my first ever build, so this is kinda important for me! Thanks for this video!

    0:59 people get soldered PCB rather than hotswap PCB nowadays also because some of those who can solder (+ desolder) and used to solder BELIEVE soldered builds are BETTER than hotswap builds in terms of sound quality and build properties. These are very subtle difference for most but for those who have really sensitive hearings plus touch sense, plus some ideology, these are what they pursue.

      does that include soldered mill max in terms of quality and sound

    Could you do a video on switch compatibility with Mill Max sockets? I'm reading about how different switches don't fit into Mill Max sockets and not sure what switches I can and cannot use. Thanks for the great video!

    Honestly I didn't have any issues using Mill-Max sockets for the first time. Just be careful you don't get solder into the socket itself when soldering. And make sure if 0305/7305 are OK (slightly raises your switches), or if you need the 3305 (set flush, no height change for your switches)

    A main reason I like millmaxing a board is actually because I want to be able to have a different layout AND I want to be able to remove switches so I can relube stabs and retune them after I have been using the board for awhile. I hate when I have a soldered board for my layout and then the stabs turn to shit after a few months.

      Glad you liked it. There were some parts which did not make it into the video showing how the millmax socket got stuck on the switch after solder overflowed. Keep that in mind~

    So...... why don't manufacturers use Mill-max in their hotswap PCB's?
    Is it just the cheapness of the other hotswap sockets?

    why does solder sound better than hotswap

    • @bow3i
      @bow3i 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      To put it simply, the contact between the switch pins and the PCB affect how much of the PCB propogates sound. From experience, most keyboards we've tried with Hotswap and Solder PCBs, there is an audible change because the hotswap socket doesn't have the same degree of contact with the switch and hence, the rest of the Plate-PCV construction

      That explains a lot. I recently bought a relatively inexpensive keyboard from Dark Project and was surprised at how beautiful it sounded. It's soldered but has premium switches and stabilizers.

    Question.... Can you make any hot swap Keyboard into a spit spacebard ?

    • @breadles5
      @breadles5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      only if the pcb supports that layout or in other words, there must be solder joints at where the switches are for the split spacebars and i should add this, do not, and for any reason, try to make your own solder joint, you will destroy the inner circuitry that allows a switch or set of switches to function. you cannot change the pcb's layout without using another pcb that somehow have the exact same screw placement.

    Okay, so I'm getting into this hobby, and I already know it's damn expensive but aside from that: I can't understand a good alternative to Roccat Titan2 Brown switches. I think what I want is a 50g switch with the tactile bump ALL the way at the top, little to no jiggle/slack (I don't know mostly any terminology or what they mean aside from one, "thocky" I want thocky.) Does this exist? Oh with a clear/crystal top so RGB puke can shine in any low profile "case". I know what I ask is weird, stupid, "just buy a Roccat Vulcan and stop complaining", but I would like to find something that I can get a bag of and never have to buy a Vulcan again because they will go extinct in the future.

  • @0Metatron
    @0Metatron 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I did exactly that and. Bought only half the amount the 1’st time 😂

  • @AwsBadr

    I also noticed the millmax sounded weird compared to soldered or hotswap sockets. Didn’t like the sound at all after I modded one key on my Corsair K70.
    Kept that key millmaxed and the rest are soldered

    I have a bag of 3305-01 Mill Max sockets that I'm not using if anyone wants to buy. 250 in the bag. Would sell for $45. Not sure if I should be selling in TH-cam comments 🤔

    If you won't be wearing the masks for the video like.. just take the time to fully take them off your face and put on if you need to drop scene? Will improve the look/quality alot, simple stuff like that. Like the content!

    • @0Metatron
      @0Metatron 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why does that matter? I don’t think the masks affect the quality in any way. Some slick editing is probably the biggest thing for content but that’s probably the most difficult and time consuming so I’m not judging on that stuff
