Yes, mounts are next on the to do list. Yes, the meshes and animations are from Oblivion. No, I can't publish this on the Nexus because of the Oblivion assets.

I remember someone else porting the Oblivion horses to New Vegas over a decade ago now, but they vehemently refused to release it anywhere (even privately) and instead frequently uploaded videos of their character riding around the map and gloating about it, rubbing it in everyone's faces that they'd never have access to the mod. I'd long forgotten about it until now, but I remember spending the following year or two hoping someone else would do it and release it somewhere purely out of spite. Anyway, I'm not asking for this to be released, I just wanted to share a bit of obscure but coincidentally related NV modding history.

Ah Horses from Oblivion, to be honest, more useful here than in Oblivion for certain.
I am certain this is just testing purposes before the middle end proof of concept.

Yes, but one of the people who wrote it/one of the game art directors (cant remember which it was) tried to retcon it later by stating horses are extinct in postwar America. Personally i still like to believe horses are out there or some heavily mutated version of them exists

I understand not being able to drive cars, but why couldn't you at least ride some of the animals of the wasteland? A bighorner would make for a badass mount.

What do you use the Bighorners for?
Meat and hide, mostly. Can't put a pack on 'em - they just lay down until you take it off.

Wow that's more realistic than Todd's worldbuilding! There should be more horses than people in the post-war United States, there is absolutely no way the horse should have gone extinct.

If you get it all working to ride and stuff, could you put the mod up without the oblivion assets and instructions on how to copy paste the assets from (a legally purchased) copy of oblivion? Similar to ttw
Nah. Getting the riding to work is the easy part. Converting the assets is so complicated and tedious to the point where nobody who wouldn't already know how to do it (i.e, me alone probably) would be able to or even want to follow a tutorial. I don't like making guides in the first place, let alone for something like this.
At this point it would be easier to someone to make their own meshes and textures
@@titanics.o.s2101 Maybe... but not really. You'd also have to make the skeleton and the 30 kf animation files from scratch which very few people could do. There was already a horse mesh from MoMod you could rig to the Bighorner skeleton, which I started out with, but it didn't suit my tastes.

Yeah I've already ported deer, cougars, boars, and sheep. Don't plan to do any others.

I doubt bethesda actually cares (Nexus does) but either way I'm not going to be redistributing assets I don't have the rights to.

OH FUCK YES FALLOUT x RED DEAD. Just replace the stolen asset placeholder and code the fuck out of it and we're good to go....after a few months/years of development. God knows how long it took for vehicles to start working on FNV, probably more/the same for horses.
