At 7:03, the subalgebra span{s} is just a toral subalgebra, not necessarily a Cartan subalgebra because at this point span{s} is not necessarily maximal. However, Cartan subalgebra indeed exists because L is finite dimensional.Also, thank you very much for your clear explanation! These lecture series are fantastic!
