- It is a common misconception that Zanzibar is just one island. In fact, it is an archipelago of islands located in the Indian Ocean with several smaller islands and two larger ones; these are Pemba Island and Unguja (Informally known as Zanzibar).
Here are interesting facts about Zanzibar and things that you probably didn't know about:
1. The Largest land crab in the world can be found in Zanzibar
2. The current Flag of Zanzibar was only adopted in 2005
3. Zanzibar is the only place in the World to spot the Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkeys
4. The Front man of the Queen's band "Freddie Mercury" was born in Zanzibar
5. Zanzibar is the land that holds a record of the shortest war in history "Anglo Zanzibar War"
There is much more to Zanzibar than just the 5 things and here are 2 EXTRAS that qualify on the same list:
EXTRA #1. Stone Town of Zanzibar was host to one of the world's last open slave markets until it was shut down in 1873
EXTRA #2. Zanzibar was the first place in Sub-Saharan Africa to introduce color television in 1973. Sub Saharan means (all countries in Africa excluding: Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt)

Also Zanzibar (Unguja) was only country in the world in this 21 century, during 2008 to live for 3 mouth without electricity power all over the country. and people didn't care about it they continue with their ordinary life as if nothing happen and again 1 year ahead Zanzibar experience another electricity cut off all over the country (Unguja) for 1 month. Even in 2016 when president Magufuli order to cut off electricity power in Zanzibar if ZECO (and Zanzibar government) not to pay its electricity bill from TANESCO within few days, president of Zanzibar Dr Ali Mohd Shein when journalist asked him about such statement of president Magufuli, president Shein said " NASEMA KAMA UTAZIMWA HAYA,TUTATUMIA VIBATARI VYETU HATUNA TATIZO SISI, LAKINI SIDHANI TANZANIA ILIYO MAKINI INAWEZA KUFANYA NAMNA HIYO, MIMI SIDHANI"
