Thank you for starting this series. Whether it was you or black flags matter I wanted someone to do a series on season collapses. Thought its a great idea for a series. I know Dale jr season collapses 2008 has to be coming lol. Ran great all season up until the chase and then fell off big time. Only 3 top 10s in the chase and finished last among the chase contenders. Dale jarrett 2003 is another

That was a sad video to watch. I always knew he won 2 races in 2003, but I never realized how good the first half of that season was for him and how bad he fell off in the second half.....

After Michigan, Michael was 5th in points, 208 ahead of 11th place Tony Stewart. After his dumpster fire end to the season, he ended up 15th, 228 points behind 10th place Terry Labonte.

Joey Logano, 2017. Consistently rattling off top-five finishes before sealing a seemingly inevitable win… which looked to be the first of a good few on the season… only for the win to be encumbered. The #22 camp subsequently endured their worst season to date, as their pace and their finishes fell off of a cliff following the “hollowed” victory. I’d be interested in seeing the full story behind what the heck happened there.

Kevin Harvick 2004 was 8th at 1 point and completely dropped out of the top 10 by Richmond and was a non factor for wins
Jeff Gordon 2005 won 3 of the first 9 races and didn’t win until Martinsville and missed the Chase. Outside of Vegas, Atlanta 2, and Charlotte 2, ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE on 1.5 mile tracks
Denny Hamlin 2007 Solid the first 26 races and FELLLLLL OFF
Dale Jr & Kyle Busch 2008
Jr was top 5 for what it seems like the whole regular season and completely missed setups at tracks they went back to. Off of my head I can tell you 3 of his only top 10s in the Chase are Martinsville, Texas, and Phoenix. Other than that, TRAGIC.
Kyle Busch completely was MIA in the playoffs
Clint Bowyer 2009 First 10 races top 10 and dropped all the way to 15th by the end of the season.

That was the last season as a diehard fan. Not on purpose either I was in Jr High and became interested in other things but kind of crazy how a lot changed immediately after I stopped watching and also when I did watch was when NASCAR seemed to be at its peak. That 2003 collapse was what started the decline for Michael because he didn't win at all in 2004 and then 2005 was even worse and Mikey crashed the most times that year. But still this was a splintered organization, and this is about the time where those issues began to manifest themselves.
