  • On 6/19/20 we rode the Sweetwater Preserve Trail in Tucson, AZ.
We had a couple small crashes in the group...
There are some blue trails that can get a little gnarly in parts.
There are some fun greens trails to ride there as well.
Mountain Bikers ride in any direction on these trails so you have to be careful and look ahead often.
    Trails:
Beginner Green Trails: Desperado (Loop), Roller Coaster, parts of The Spine and Wildflower Ridge, Ocotillo Hill
Intermediate Blue Trails: Homestead, Lost Arrows, parts of The Spine and Wildflower Ridge, Oxbow, Night Hawk, Red Canyon, Sun Circle Loop, Red Tail Ridge, Black Rock Loop. Saguaro Vista.

My preferred route on this system is to begin on Saguaro Vista Trail all the way up to the first entrance onto the Sun Circle Loop (after that 180° turn there is a slight downhill where you can catch a little speed, and then hit a fun jump bumping off a root), and then back onto Saguaro Vista Trail up to Black Rock Loop taking it clockwise (back section provides some good speed), then venture back down Saguaro Vista Trail, bypassing Sun Circle Loop this time, and continuing until Lost Arrow Trail. This trail has a couple minor technical spots, nothing major, but most of it is a uphill grind, but by the time you reach the end at The Spine, you're at the top, and the most grueling part of the ride is behind you. Next, I would take the Homestead Trail to Red Canyon Trail (a couple minor rock gardens here, but one in particular can easily throw you off if you hit it wrong), then back onto Homestead Trail until the next intersection. Here at the intersection I would try to alternative routes taking every ride. The first option is Ocotillo Hill Trail which is a fun, fast gradual downhill, eventually hooking up with a short distance of The Spine, followed by Wildflower Ridge Trail, and into part of Roller Coaster Trail to lead back to the parking lot.
Or there is option two which is a little more distance, but nothing significant. Instead of taking Ocotillo Hill Trail like in option one, I would follow Red Tail Ridge Trail which is a fun trail that offers some incredible views. Then onto Oxbow Trail which is a Jeep trail back into Wildflower Ridge Trail from option 1, but not to the right when you first enter that trail, but instead straight, and then take the next right.
Those are my favorite routes to take, I've tried all the trails there except for Night Hawk Trail, which I do not recall seeing, and Desperado Loop which may not have been completed as of my last ride there. Great trail system!

That was my go to trail system to squeeze in a ride after work and before the sunset. Great place to ride, a lot of fun, a few slightly technical spots, but nothing over the top, and a few places you can hit with some decent speed, and to top it all off, it is some beautiful scenery in which to ride!!!

I love hiking sweetwater (I've never been confident on a bike so I've never tried mountain biking) and my butt hurts just watching all the bumps lol

Your Boy on the Fat bike needs a Dropper Post. Those trails look pretty mellow but rocky. Looks Fun. I will have to travel from Cali and ride them some time.

You really don't need a dropper post at all on those trails.

No offence but that thumbnail had me laughing.
Sweet water is a great place to ride. I just wish I was closer to it, heck I wish all the trails were just a mile or two away from me 😅

Another sick video dude! Crashing there looks terrifying! Have you ever found yourself lying on a cactus after a wipeout?

Thanks for the props on the video. I've had a few close calls with the cacti, the most common thing is getting Cholla bulbs stuck in your leg. But if you ever fully crashed into a Cholla bush it would be a horrible day.

I think I might prefer a cactus than landing the wrong way in some of those rock gardens without any pads.
