This same volcano has erupted several times since records started to be kept. (Around 1500) and erupted as recently as 1971. Every single person that decided to pour life savings into homes and farms KNEW THIS. If you want to feel sorry.....feel sorry for bad and risky decision making. My farm is over 4,000km's from the nearest active volcano. I still wish it was farther away than that. Never mind in the highly documented lava path that these people built on.

Those rivers of lava are doing a great job, at least the lava is being confined within the walls that have been created by the lava that has cooled and that has stopped it spreading out over the island. I do wonder if the lava could be "steered" away from towns and villages by dropping water or constantly spraying water to cool the lava to create walls that could steer it towards the ocean instead of allowing it to go wherever it wanted to, does anyone have any thoughts on that suggestion ?
I think technically it would be possible but practically there is really no way as there is just too much lava, it would take much more effort to do that than just let these houses burn down and rebuild them.
Sea water could be pumped up to cool the edges, the problem would be the poisonous gasses and explosions the lava would produce when lava touches water, as for controlling the lava flow this could be the only solution so far 👍✌
