RKL plays live at The Covered Wagon Saloon in San Francisco on Friday, April 5, 2002 with Fracas, Crosstops, and The Bar Feeders. a Scott Alcoholocaust production
Saw this line up at warped tour in SF on the small “stage”. Derrick had a music stand in front of his kit for about half the show. Jason turned it towards the crowd and it just had a sheet of paper with “Don’t Fuck Up!” written on it. Lol

His power, syncopation, feel, everything - simply one of the greatest if not the greatest punk drummers to touch the sticks. He was the only other drummer in RKL who really lived up to Bomer's level imo, Dave Raun is a monster but even he can't touch them at their absolute best.
Jason was one of the coolest, most fun, beautiful & best buddies I've ever had! I miss him with all my heart & soul! He was such a sweetheart!! We got really close up in Bend, Oregon & in Cali. He was a Pro snowboarder too! I would fall asleep with my head in his lap after we laughed deep into the night many a night after drinking brewery beer. RIP my beautiful friend!
@@zezerik I don’t know if they ever played in Bend. A crew of us just hung out together every day & night while he was in between gigs all the time. We named the Deschutes Brewery beer, Jubil Ale, one Xmas time night, cuz one of the brewers lived there, Tony. We always had a fresh keg & fun people & games to play! We named it Jubil cuz it made you feel so jubilant & 😆 happy!! He was a blast & so fun & funny!! Best times!
@@deannedeberry568 that's awesome! Sounds like some great memories and a cool dude. I'm only now just discovering this band but I really like them. I'm always late to the show :) Cheers
This is probably one of the best live shows I've ever heard. Flippin and Rest play very clearly, Raposo is a superlative bass player, and Derrick, not to take credit for the great Rivera, Raun and Bomer, was an immeasurable drummer.
I even get drunk myself, just by watching this! Saw them in Amsterdam, Van Hall, during the late 80's. Big party, deaf for a week! Those were the days!
Definitely a better drummer than Dave Raun. Plourde nails Raun's parts with better chops and over all more powerful drumming. On the other hand, Raun playing Plourde's parts in Lagwagon is always of lesser quality.
@@stephenforbes2762I agree here, Derrick plays it a lot more smoothly. Tbf I learned how to play RKL tunes by watching these videos of the later lineup; easier to follow what’s going on.
@@stephenforbes2762 That is true, also, they never play stuff like Bury the Hatchet, Stokin' the Neighbors, No One, Noble End, Lazy, Parents Guide to Living any longer. Or maybe I like the bad songs?
I was there, fun times living in SF…great dive!!!!! I was on several drugs…heroin, bentos, weed, beer….prolly blow late..glad i was there and had opportunity to enjoy that phase fully, skating all kinds of hills wasted stoked to be alive for sure. Rad vid!!! Cheers!!!aloha!!!!!!
Jason told me he would go all out for every gig & try to puke for the fans every time they played! That’s fukn commitment!! I loved that guy so much!! I’m so lucky to have seen them & had Jason as such a great friend & a lap to always fall asleep in!!
Dammit… How could they be so fast and so good? I know many always comment on Jason and Bomber as an amazing part of RKL, but shit man!- every member of this punk band is amazingly talented! And to a greater extent, just badass live performers. This is old hat to many in the punkrock world, but did you all know that every current member of Lagwagon did time in RKL?
I wish i could find footage of this lineup playing HELLS KITCHEN in TACOMA,WA. . that show (W/the ACCUSED ) was packed and amazing sounding. They crushed that sold out crowd.
I have another full set recorded live from the back of the room if you want to get together and make a killer video of the RKL live set. I see one other person with the show recorded. If we put all three together it would be so killer. Just asking. Have a good one either way. My best.
Scooter, do you have any other RKL shows with Derrick on drums you’re willing to share? I’m helping someone build what is essentially the Plourde archives, a big playlist with all of his work and we’d love to see what you have. Had the good fortune to see RKL live during this period 3 or 4 times in Santa Barbara and Goleta. Never could’ve known back then what I was experiencing would be some of the best times of my life.

Thank you much
Thank you!🍺
A rare opportunity to see probably the best punk drummer of all time at work! Derrick Plourde was the man! \m/ RIP
THE BEST - no probably’s about it :)
i was lucky enough 2 see 3 or 4 of their shows with Derrick. : ) unreal
I always thought Jordan Burns was the best, but no... not at all. Derrick took punk rock drumming to another level.
Fuck that. All of them. Rip Jason
RKL had two of the best drummers in the scene by the sounds of it, Derrick AND Bomer, who is like Derricks slightly messier, but way gnarlier brother.
Joe is a beast, such a great bassist.
Derrick Plourde!
goat
Seriously. His fills are unreal. What a force.

🙌 miss this band.
The greatest American punk rock band.
Thanks for the upload. Besides Barry uploading his old footage, it's really nice to finally see one of these shows in good quality and so close.
Wow RKL lineup with both Derrick and Joe. Must have been only a few shows with them together, great upload!
My god, Derrick and Joe’s playing in Coming Home 😳
This was actually legendary for everyone there.
They are unsurpassed to this day, and have been 20 years since
Raposo the beast!!!!!

pure gold!
Thanks for this, there's almost nothing from this amazing lineup

Cheers for recording this one!

Little Joe became who he is because of RKL, not Lagwagon.
Jason's rhythm to head banging had a funky loose neck swinging

Bomer não estava nesse show? Pois na bateria é o Derrick Plourde e no baixo é o Joe Raposo.
Ele já tinha saído de novo nessa época... li numa entrevista do chris rest em algum lugar que o bomer tava afundando nas droga nesse tempo. Uma pena

No, the Fat one was recorded in 87-88 i think
@@speculative182 Yep, the live in a dive RKL record was recorded on their European tour in ‘87.

Does anybody think that the tall guy on the guitar looks like Gordon Ramsy?
Gordon ramsay lmao
Thats chris flippin (aka big bitch) from lagwagon
Everything after the keep laughing LP was a major disappointment. But prior..One of the best punk bands, hands down. RIP.
Are you high? Keep laughing was pretty standard 80s hardcore, they didn’t perfect the rkl sound until Rn’R Nightmare
