JT (from DFM) makes great tools out of his fabrication shop here in Chicago. Probably the only USA made product in the bunch :) If you ever swing thru Chicago, we'll have to go by his facilities...
I bought the Mullet for our shop at school. Paired it with a shopvac with a cyclone dust collector. I attached it on my workbench in a relatively central location so I can use it over my miter saw and table saw as a supplement and attach a hose and use it on my sander, router and router table so far. Love it.
I bought the Japan Fan based on your video. I've created countless amazing projects with it. It's probably the most used tool in my shop. So I was happy to see it's return on your channel.
The circle compas actually has a very nice version that Adam did review. thats a pure B&S from a cheap knockoff company XD. That Mullet extractor tube Heck i want that! tho not for woodworking. Id use it with my Soldering station or when i do computer repairs for pulling fumes from solvents away. Better than the crappy vacuum cleaner tube i use now LOL.
Not sure if anyone else did not post this earlier, but the original circle tool is called "The Iris" and comes from a British company called Makerscabinet. It's real brass, way more accurate, way more nice and wayyyyy more expensive than the one from Facebook. And yea, that is the one that Adam Savage reviewed.
I love my DFM squares...they are always dead on and priced right. After watching this video, I think I need to add a few items to my Christmas list. I want that mullet arm and the router plane.
DFM is a Chicago Company (US-made) their precision is "All of our squares are perpendicular to less than 0.001" across the length of the square" taken from their website
The mullet cyclone attached a ct 26 has been unbelievable. It’s saved me so much in bags and filters. I hooked it up to the camvac90L which is a high pressure system and it handled it without even thinking about buckling. The boom arm saved me 300+ not having to buy festools boom arm. It’s keeps my hose off the ground and is great for so many other things. I will be purchasing another one to separate from the cyclone for when I build my next assembly table. You can buy an attachment to fit a hose in the end and not just the dust hood. Awesome products and amazing customer service
I got the Milescraft rail track adapter for circular saws and it is outstanding, very solid and mostly aluminum/metal. It has four points of contact around the saw base, has adjustment for tightening the rail, and also a setup jig so you can use it with multiple saws without recutting the zero clearance strip. I only wish I could get a guide rail square for it. Great bit of kit if you do not have the budget for a dedicated track saw.
I can’t say enough about the Mullet. I didn’t trust myself rigging one and wanted something good, a bit of a hit but what it’s saved me so far, has paid for itself and then some, I’m still on the bag that came with the CT26 after HEAVY use over the last 10 months or so. At this rate I won’t have to buy a replacement bag for 5 years. It’s really that good.
Your statement about the Kreg is spot on for their brand. I bought the same track and ended up returning it before making the zero clearance cut. They have great ideas but poor execution and quality control.
i have a guide bar from harbor freight and a bora track saw adapter that runs well along it and i dont have to worry about pushing the saw against the bar causing flex. way easier to store it all too.
I'm a bit surprised you had not heard of DFM tools but they do make some very quality squares. For sure something to keep in mind when building the budget shop. They are not the cheapest square but they also aren't priced as high as wood peckers so you'd be getting a very very quality square at a "budget" price especially if you keep in the scratch and dent arena for those. I wonder if these would be re-ranked in the budget shop? Like the circle drawing jig I would put last for a budget shop simply because seems like a last thing would need/buy and all the other things would be first building a budget shop from ground 0. Be neat to have you re-rank them based on the budget shop at some point.
I love the DFM squares, not only the small squares shown in this vid but also they make the "L" shaped squares that include 2 pins where you can use those to easily strike a center line.
That dust collection arm is really quite cool actually, especially like you said with a complete system in place. I'd get one of those for my model making as well so i dont have to run back and forth between all my tools and re-hose the vaccuum cleaner to different stuff.
If you want a dust collection arm, then nip down to your local hardware store and buy a selection of small diameter drainpipes along with a few angle joints. Cut the pipes to suitable lengths, join them together with the angles and hey presto, you got a similar system for less than the cost of the petrol (gas) that you used to get there and back.
I have the Kreg and it was very difficult to set up even with the instructions. But I don't find myself using it as much, due to all the setup required and the amount of play it has. I usually just use a straight edge and some clamps.
I bought that Kreg saw guide kit and used it once before returning it. It was straight up junk, the cheap plastic base plate wouldn’t even mount correctly to my saw.
The DFM squares are awesome. Scratch and dent may mean they have some sort of blemish or damage on them? Either way two squares for that price is a great deal. The squares'are every bit as accurate as the red brand. I'm interested in the router plane. Looks like good quality and high value for the price. Bonus points for knob polishing 😂
I used UHMW tape I bought on Amazon, attached to to the bottom of the blue plastic saw holder and it eliminated the wiggle you noticed. Shouldn't need to do that when you buy a product but I couldn't afford a real track saw at the time and that simple modification made a huge improvement in accuracy.
You should make a show down board that lists all the ad products you got and have your top 10 or 15 most used or would use. Like these are my favorite and if I had to buy these again, I would do these 10-15 kinda thing and then update it at the end of each of these type of videos
With those mini squares and the pins, once you move the square to the forty five angle it also allows you to draw a straight line along the board at various depths using the pin as a roller.
I think just zip typing your shop vac hose to a Standard Lamp would work just as well as the mullet pipe system. Plus, you have a light pointed at your work ;-)
Cowryman Planes are freaking awesome. I've a review on my channel for the one you bought a few months ago, absolutely loved it, and went and got another model from them after testing out the first.
I got a Cowryman router on Amazon a couple years ago. It's a bit smaller than the one you got, but it's super well made. Probably the best Chinese machining I've ever seen. Was a shot in the dark, but I'm glad I took that chance.
Couldn’t agree more. I have both their small and large router planes, and I’ve been extremely happy with them. Plus I prefer sharpening that type of iron over the traditional L shaped irons.
Hi thanks for the video. One thing bugs me though: you bought the clamping squares for 45° angles, and then you compare them to 90° angle ones. Of course they can't compete. Other than that, good stuff!👌
I was wondering about that particular product too- the lip seems to be a godsend for placing the square, and the 45 degree feature would be super convenient. AND- he says it's not as easy to use as the Woodpeckers but I cannot for the life of me figure out why that would be the case. Looking at it I would assume it's exactly the same.
I have that Kreg track and feel the same way you did, if it had less play it would be great, but with the play it is not any easier or more convenient than just using a circular saw with a long straight edge.
The Kreg line of saw guides are just absolute trash. I have their Rip-Cut is just a flimsy piece of plastic. The two hold downs just bend when you try to attach it to a circular saw. I saw this Accu-Cut used pretty much the same system to hold down, which is just sad. A huge let down, so I won't be buying anything else from them if they don't take their engineering seriously. I picked up a crappy straight edge clamp from Harbor Freight that was half the price, but works far better. I'll replace that with a better quality one someday as it has its own issues.
Looks like the corner clamps are also to be used to clamp 45 degree joint. Like the mullet. To add on, there are videos ou to show you how to get rid of the play on the Kreg Accu-cut
I have the kreg accucut, didn't like the sled that came with it. So I ended up making my own out of plywood. Made such a improvement, and now I actually enjoy using the product.
My Kreg accu-cut warped within its first day of use. The rubber grip strips at the bottom don’t do diddly squat. I have to clamp it down every time which inhibits the cut capacity greatly. I hate my accu-cut.
Im glad you noticed the play in the Kreg "accu-cut", and its good to know someone has a fix because mine was so incredibly disappointing when I found it had at least 1/8" of play and when I got to the end of my cut the wobble was very noticable. Going to get some HDPE tape and ship it all to hell.
I wonder if the tolerance was added to the model to account for plastic shrinkage but when it came to manufacturing, the plastic didn't shrink as expected and as the mold cast cost upwards of USD$5000 a time, they probably just left it instead of making a new mold.
I have the Miles craft saw guide, and it is at best an average tool. I use it for jig saw, and I had to add an extra clamp at the back to keep the saw from shifting side to side. It does the job I need, and it is a good tool for the price for a beginner to invest in.
I don't know if it's because 3 weeks till Christmas or your excellent recommendation, it may be both, but the Mullet Boom Arm is on backorder, not shipping till the 13th (10 days of this post). Personally, I think they should thank you by putting your viewers at the front of the line.
That small Kreg in-Accu-Cut costs about the same as a cheap tracksaw here in the UK (yeah the supplied blades are crap but to be expected). I have a cheapo Lidl supermarket ownbrand tracksaw with a decent blade fitted as my only track saw and it's pretty good, you can adjust the tolerance down to the rail at least. A batten some clamps with a circular saw would be more accurate than the Accu-Cut. Kreg have always seemed expensive for what you get at least by the time it makes the shores of old Blighty.
I love the mini DFM squares, been using one for a couple of years now. DFM makes a bunch of other great stuff as well, definitely worth checking out more.
Milescraft makes a much better universal tracksaw guild, for about the same price... it's all aluminum, has the slop adjustment that one is missing and has 4 corner hold-down clamps.
The circle tool is showing the Iris from Makers Cabinet before the bait and switch. I bought one as a gift for an engineer friend. It's really cool. It is a one trick pony. But it is cool
I think if you dont use the foam sheet under the board while making the round cut with jigsaw then the tool will work fine and saw will not cut into the base, you can try again without any support under the board and see if the tool works fine.
I have a kreg accucut system. Its definitely sloppy out of the box. But a single strip of UHMW tape along the center channel on the underside of the sled eliminates all slop. Definitely something they should have fixed in QC. But once you make that cheap and easy fix, youre left with an $80 track saw. Can't beat that.
You should have the links to the items in the description... I was looking for something like that for the vacuum for doing lathe work. I had a 4" pipe that just was hard to move around, this sounds like it would be better... (although, it is smaller)
I felt the same way about the Kreg track saw, I bought one and noticed the play right away. I made two cuts and they came out significantly worse than just using my aluminum straight edge. I returned it the same day. I honestly don't see how the Kreg track made it through production.
I would like to see a video of you using the Mullet dust collection thing. I am having trouble picturing where you would use it. It seems like the solid tubes would limit its flexibility?
I was just as surprised as you about the final tool! Love these videos, David. Thank you for spending money and risking getting scammed so that we don't have to. So happy you didn't get a fan to add to your collection this time 😉
I enjoy these videos and Facebook shows woodworking ads to me as well. I usually check the Facebook price vs Amazon and Amazon is usually cheaper. Sometimes as much as 50% cheaper for the same product. You should add a price comparison as well to determine the actual scam amount.
Little late to the party, but I was wondering what knife you are using to cut open the boxes? If homemade, do you have plans or a video available? If purchased, where did you get it?
The Kreg and Milescraft systems are both budget tools, on the Milescraft tool you need to double check your clamps on the saw and well the Kreg, you need that antifriction tape to adjust for slop. Kreg is known for pocket hole jigs, so I'd expect something like this to need a little finessing.
Unless I'm totally mistaken... Lol. I've heard a lot of good things about those DFM squares. Matt from 731 woodworks on youtube has done several videos about those squares. And compared them to some of Woodpeckers squares. Which probably doesn't sound like a very good idea. But they are supposed to be really nice for the price. Anyhow I digress. Thanks for another great video David!
The compass is a knockoff of one that is actually brass, but cost over $100. I saw it once and almost bought it, but don't have that kind of money to spend just to draw a few circles.
I have the Kreg guide. My slide doesn't have the movement like yours did, but like the Milescraft product, I don't like how the saw mounts. The back end of saw seems to flop around. Also, it seems hard to get started, but the end result is good.
Fantastic testing and review, Dave! 😃 I've seen lots of those router planes on Chinese stores... They always looked good in my opinion, but now... I guess I'm getting one! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 And happy holidays!
It’s kind of interesting seeing this milescraft tool after having just watched a bunch of videos reviewing their track saw guide, which seems like a gigantic step up in terms of accuracy, build quality, and how well thought through it is… good to see them leveling up 😁
@stellabelikiewicz1523 I bought it because I couldn't afford the 6-700 dollar actual track saw. I picked up the Dewalt corded saw and it lives on the base permanently. A year later and I still haven't considered buying a tracksaw!
@@RJSDZNS I think it might be perfect for my needs, since I usually work super small and only need a track saw for “making sheet goods small enough that I can carry them home on the subway” purposes 😁!
That craig track saw. Mine is the same way. But think about it. The wieght of the saw and the momentum of the operator holding the saw and moving makes it tight. You need to hold your saw closure to the front and be above your work not to the side of it. Cause on the side your are working against yourself.
Here I was about to comment on adding some UHMW strips to the Kreg Accu Cut, and then I hear my own voice discussing it. Definitely didn't expect that!🤣
Bro… DFM has some great stuff. On par with that red company from strongsville. Also, USA made and have an interesting assortment. Get a new hand plane blade… or a press to make round ice balls for your 20 year old scotch.
When I was scoping out track saws I was looking hard at that Craig, decided on Makita instead, good thing. I bought a storage shed off Facebook ad for 85 dollars, they sent me a bracelet with plastic beads. Love your vids man you're a great maker!
i bought kreg track and it didn’t fit my circular saw. apparently it doesn’t fit all of them. so was disappointed in it. not a huge fan of milescraft either. that router plane & the dust arm looked the biz😊
The Iris style circle guide looks like a knock off the "Makers Cabinet" version. I have one from them and its fantastic. I paid roughly $130USD. Their things are a bit overpriced (and mostly unnecessary) but beautifully made.
The way to use that jigsaw jig, you’re just supposed to lock it in and focus your attention on the blade. And just try to keep the blade in the middle of the opening. The grip is just to help hold steady a little as you go. Watch the blade like you’d watch the pencil line if you didn’t have a jig. Even cheap ones work like butter if they’re able to lock tight. It’s all about pushing the jig like normal, just keeping the blade in the middle the best you can instead of following a pencil line. Once you do it right once, you’ll get it.
Maybe check your setup (espacially mic) at 03:00 ++ min, there was a litte fuzzy noise sounds like interference would be great if you fix it small sounds like these can make me a bit nervous over time just mentioned it keep watching and resist. greetings from germany (just have to write it if someone complains about my mistakesn haha)
You’re like a kid at Christmas when you open stuff dude. 😂🤙
The circle tool is a copy of the Iris from Makers Cabinet. Thats the tool Adam Savage used in the video.
Thanks for giving us a chance despite the popups 😂.
JT (from DFM) makes great tools out of his fabrication shop here in Chicago. Probably the only USA made product in the bunch :) If you ever swing thru Chicago, we'll have to go by his facilities...
Hey Mike! I've got nothing but great comments about DFM. Looks like I need to get to know him better.
Definitely need to do a tour!
That dust arm thing would be perfect at the drill press where dust collection is probably the most difficult
The original product for making the circles it's Iris from Makers Cabinet
Was coming to see if anyone else was going to comment. It looks like they just completely stole the video from Makers Cabinet.
Yeah, the video is Iris The product, not so much.
You should buy the real one and compare
And the shot of Adam Savage is ripped off from a Tested video when he got one of the Irises
"Crash Zoom into that M-Fer"
Another fine FB tool comparison. I'm digging all your recent content.
“Zoom in to that little mother f*cker” had to rewind and listen again made me lol
We loved it too 😂😂😂
The circle compas actually has a very nice version that Adam did review. thats a pure B&S from a cheap knockoff company XD.
That Mullet extractor tube Heck i want that! tho not for woodworking. Id use it with my Soldering station or when i do computer repairs for pulling fumes from solvents away. Better than the crappy vacuum cleaner tube i use now LOL.

I love my DFM squares...they are always dead on and priced right. After watching this video, I think I need to add a few items to my Christmas list. I want that mullet arm and the router plane.
Seconded, DFM makes good stuff in the US.
Started out as a one man show also. I just got the same blem square and it looks perfect to me.
DFM is a Chicago Company (US-made) their precision is "All of our squares are perpendicular to less than 0.001" across the length of the square" taken from their website
Same here. Love my little dfm square and it’s perfect for smaller projects

I bought that Kreg saw guide kit and used it once before returning it. It was straight up junk, the cheap plastic base plate wouldn’t even mount correctly to my saw.
What did I just watch? He bought all of them and for once did not get scammed and nothing was terrible. Miracles do happen! 😂 great video as always
Hi David, videos like this are the reason why I open youtube. I rewatch your videos at least 2 times. Thanks for posting! I love this one.
The DFM squares are awesome. Scratch and dent may mean they have some sort of blemish or damage on them? Either way two squares for that price is a great deal. The squares'are every bit as accurate as the red brand.

I met the Mullet guy at WBC. I bought his Cyclone, and I typically don't bring things home from a convention. Well made products that Mullet Brand.
You should make a show down board that lists all the ad products you got and have your top 10 or 15 most used or would use. Like these are my favorite and if I had to buy these again, I would do these 10-15 kinda thing and then update it at the end of each of these type of videos

DFM also makes really nice small sized regular squares. It comes with two pins you can use to find the center of a board
Nice shout out to DFM.. they are a small business in Chicago… they have a nice selection on products all in-house made…. Support him!!

I don't do woodworking, don't have the skill for woodwoeking, and yet somehow I always enjoy your videos.Especially the tool reviews.
Once Inget a heat source in my shop I plan to tackle dust collection properly. The mullet looks like it might be quite useful.
I have the Kreg ACS and it comes with a real plunge saw. It does have an adjustment for side to side play on the track.
Bill
Love this series, keep it up 👍
Hi thanks for the video.
One thing bugs me though: you bought the clamping squares for 45° angles, and then you compare them to 90° angle ones. Of course they can't compete.

Looks like the corner clamps are also to be used to clamp 45 degree joint. Like the mullet. To add on, there are videos ou to show you how to get rid of the play on the Kreg Accu-cut
i think he forgot thats the thing that was marketed on that product
DFM Toolworks is an American made company with a nice selection of products.
I have the kreg accucut, didn't like the sled that came with it. So I ended up making my own out of plywood. Made such a improvement, and now I actually enjoy using the product.
That’s a good idea, I’m pretty unhappy with the sled as well, I never thought of just making my own. 👍
Randomly bought those DFM squares a while back on a flyer. Better than anything I had and definitely priced right.
I wonder if the tolerance was added to the model to account for plastic shrinkage but when it came to manufacturing, the plastic didn't shrink as expected and as the mold cast cost upwards of USD$5000 a time, they probably just left it instead of making a new mold.

I really have a distaste for companies that sell tools that they know are not properly functional. We work too hard for our money.
David: I could actually use something bigger at times.
Me: 😳 That’s what she said. 🤣🤣 15:06
I would like to see a video of you using the Mullet dust collection thing. I am having trouble picturing where you would use it. It seems like the solid tubes would limit its flexibility?
How thick of metal can you easily cut with that portable to bench bandsaw setup?
I was just as surprised as you about the final tool!
Love these videos, David. Thank you for spending money and risking getting scammed so that we don't have to. So happy you didn't get a fan to add to your collection this time 😉
That router plane is the only tool that you get more than you paid for in terms of material and labor to make it
I enjoy these videos and Facebook shows woodworking ads to me as well. I usually check the Facebook price vs Amazon and Amazon is usually cheaper. Sometimes as much as 50% cheaper for the same product. You should add a price comparison as well to determine the actual scam amount.
Why are the Woodpecker corner clamps better? They seem to be basically the same thing. What am I missing?
Little late to the party, but I was wondering what knife you are using to cut open the boxes? If homemade, do you have plans or a video available? If purchased, where did you get it?
The Kreg and Milescraft systems are both budget tools, on the Milescraft tool you need to double check your clamps on the saw and well the Kreg, you need that antifriction tape to adjust for slop. Kreg is known for pocket hole jigs, so I'd expect something like this to need a little finessing.
I've got the DFM square. Love it and use it often.
I love all of my DFM products, glad you found them!
I always look forward to these videos from you. Good to see the real deal with some of these ads on FB & other social media apps. Thanks Dave~!
I thought the corner clamps you bought for their ability to clamp at 45°
Unless I'm totally mistaken...
Those DFM squares are actually really good.
But i would definitely prefer a 12" version.
Great vid! Very entertaining! Curious tho, what kind of lighting are you using for your set? You got that dialed in good!
I literally just tried to click the facebook links in the video for that Dipo circle thing, looks awesome.
Still loving the enthusiasm and love hearing from your co-host. Keepem comin.
The pins on the DFM Squares can be used as a center finder.
I have the Kreg guide. My slide doesn't have the movement like yours did, but like the Milescraft product, I don't like how the saw mounts. The back end of saw seems to flop around. Also, it seems hard to get started, but the end result is good.
Fantastic testing and review, Dave! 😃
I've seen lots of those router planes on Chinese stores... They always looked good in my opinion, but now... I guess I'm getting one!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
I bought the milescraft tracksaw guide and I'm SO happy with it. I get straight accurate cuts everytime. Great video, I enjoy your content
@stellabelikiewicz1523 get it!!
Definitely didn't expect that!🤣
Great video by the way!
@@MakeSomethingThanks, same to you!
Bro… DFM has some great stuff. On par with that red company from strongsville.
Also, USA made and have an interesting assortment. Get a new hand plane blade… or a press to make round ice balls for your 20 year old scotch.
I'm delighted that I'm served scam ads from TH-cam on this video
Do you use blade for curve??
I think the perk of the corner clamp you got was that it could do 45 degree angles not just 90 like the better ones you have.
Yeah, that's why I got them and just totally forgot. Oops!
4:07 AND... notice that the sale price is only 45% off not 50% LOL
Wondering how the heck do you get the iron out of the router plane to sharpen it?
Lolol the edits for all the immature jokes😂 I'm cracking up and having fun and you're not even through the buying section yet lol
Touch it on camera, touch it on camera camera. had me laughing
i thought I would save and buy the non xl Kreg tracksaw... its just short of 8 ft, also i don't remember mine being that sloppy
