yeah those last 8 minutes were something else... probably the best scene in the show yet. kit connor and joe locke's performances were fantastic, they've come a long way since s1, these two will be big stars in the future im calling it.

I am blown away by every actor in this show, but Kit and Joe especially just shone this season!! I want alllll the success for every one of these actors!
In episode 5 I firmly believed that Nick didn’t really care if anyone saw them holding hands. I think he was just ready to be out, and just hadn’t quite worked up the courage yet to do it. Sometimes it seems easier to be found out than to come out.

Just letting you know that Darcy's actor Kizzy doesn't like being referred to as a girl and uses they/he pronouns and that this is actually Kizzy's first acting role and he's doing so great! Kizzy also mentioned that their favorite scene to do was the after-prom scene where they all improvised and just had fun together while acting as their characters and Corrina, Tara's actress seemed to be agreeing.
Hey thank you so much! I wasn't aware. I try not to read too much or research for fear of spoilers, so unless I'm otherwise aware, I default to the pronoun/s used in the show. Now I know! :)
I knew that Kizzy uses they/them pronouns but didn't know about the "he" pronouns. In interviews, Kizzy does use "she" pronouns to refer to Darcy. So I think it's okay to refer to Darcy as "she" but use "they/he" for Kizzy.
The last song by Wasia Project (Will Gao (Tao) and his sister Olivia’s band). Is called Ur So Pretty, it’s beautiful. They are both incredibly talented!

Catch the lyrics being sung in the last scene as Nick closes the front door and turns around, his sweet good-bye smile dropping into one of worry. He needs to be strong and positive for Charlie but he’s scared to death as to what Charlie has just told him and how he doesn’t know how he can help him. The lyrics at this point are not happy. He’s very worried.
I read that it took 7 hours to film tha final scene with Nick and Charlie , the end result was well worth it , they were both fantastic in it. ❤️
Oh I believe it. I wonder how much of it was the acting portion, and maybe how heavy the emotions were, or if a lot of it was more the technical stuff like blocking, lighting, etc. Probably a combination.
@@DavidvsFilm Probably both but they said the scene was written so beautifully by Alice they both wanted to do it justice - and they did ! It must have been emotionally draining though.

17:44 I love seeing the parents too. I'm so glad that Elle's parents, Tara's mom, and Nick's mom (and Charlie's dad too) are supportive of their kids!
And Tao's mom for being so happy about him being with Elle. She knows Elle is trans and that doesn't matter to her at all. She just realizes that Elle is the perfect girl for her son.
Two of the actors actually confirmed that the last scene of them playing around was mostly improvised and just them having fun in their last scene together. Most of the time they refer to eachother as a big family🥹
The end killed me. I still cry every time I see it. The writing was incredible (of course it's Alice!) but the acting by Joe and Kit was perfection. Awards will be coming I'm sure!
Alice already announced the character Ben will not be in season 3.
Season 3 will be tough.
Well, Kit already won an Emmy for season 1. I think both Joe and Kit should win one for season 2
So so great. And I looked up the Emmy Award that he won (I wasn't aware of this), and apparently he's the first one to win it- it's called the Children's and Family Emmy Award. Pretty cool, and well-deserved.
I had a feeling that was the end of Ben since he said that he wouldn't be back for 6th form. Plus I think Alice expanded his character in S2 because Bash is so likeable and to fill in more episodes. I doubt Harry will be back too.

The texting through Instagram is just an in-universe plot device. They wanted to give a consistent look and feel to the texts since they are shown quite a bit, and didn’t want each person’s phone/text app to look different. It may have made it harder for the audience to follow.
i’m so glad we’re peeling back some layers for charlie. he has been through so much since before season 1 with him being outed, bullied and harassed, assaulted and abused by ben…like charlie has had it rough to the point where it pushed him to the darkest places. it’s 💔 knowing he has been carrying this pain with him, not telling a soul. he’s been fighting alone this whole time while always being there and supporting his friends, especially nick. i think it’s time we finally see charlie reflect that onto himself, focus on his needs and wants. season 3 will mostly be centered around him and his recovery which is going to get worse before better. and i can’t wait to see joe showcase charlie’s struggle so honestly and for mental health awareness. there are SO many young queer kids who share charlie’s experience and we feel less alone because of him!
I also agree, the 2nd season (esp the last 4 episodes) were so jam packed with new developments. It was nice to see Tao's Mom have more parts and also learning about Isaac's journey. I also appreciated seeing Darcy's home life and how I feel like the confidence and expression was different at home and at school, something very real. I also really loved Tori's presence and how she was so protective of both Nick and Charlie, esp at the dinner table. Looking forward to the next szn!

It's such a good thing that they talk about eating disorders. Men deal with them too but it seems most of the time anything involving eating disorders is focused around women.
I really liked how they used the Paris setting. They didn't focus so much on it. The show still focused on the kids, they just incorporated the Paris background in a beautiful way. It's like no matter where they are, whether it's home, school, or Paris, the setting feels cozy and warm.
I thought the same thing about Harry! You can't tell if he is being sarcastic or genuine.
I was also happy that Issac is an asexual character. I feel like asexuals are sometimes lost in lgbt representation. Heartstopper literally has it all: positive representation of gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, and asexual people, on top of being sweet and wholesome.
Walking and reading is easy. I've been doing it since I was a kid. You gotta focus on your peripheral vision.
Well as usual, I love and agree with everything in your comment lol. Probably why we're friends. But yes, I was glad for the equal opportunity representation when it came to eating disorders, and you are completely right about Paris not overshadowing the characters. Great point on that. I still don't think I could read and walk though. I'd fall right into the proverbial cartoon manhole.

Yes,, this second season was what I expected to be and more. I am happy how the characters are developing. However, I felt anger as well. Do you know how much bullying is needed to push some beautiful soul like Charlie so close to that cliff? A lot! I hope with all of my heart that people come to realize the power of words when translated into hate. Ugh. I am so conflicted with so many feelings right now. This is all I can write.
Yes, I completely understand, and you are right. I also feel it's important to focus on the hope and the beauty that the books/show represent as well :)
Everyone's so confused about the texting on instagram thing and the reason is literally just that it was the easiest to read when you film closeups on phones. They tried other messaging apps and the text was too small and zoomed out.

Okay, so I was obsessed with the whole Heartstopper Universe before the first season was even announced. The first season was great, but the second season took it up a notch. Lord, help me when I finally see season 3!❤❤❤

I enjoy your reviews, insightful and entertaining. When Nick and Charlie were at the prom, the reason hat Charlie wanted to leave was that he noticed several teens pointing at him and talking with each other. He doesn’t like to be the center of attention, plus it probably cursed him to have ptsd. So, soon after was when he suggested to Nick that they leave and have fun with their close friends, his safe place.
I liked your review especially your commentary about the acting. I totally agree. They are all superb particularly Nick and Charlie. So young and so talented! Once in a generation superb.
Thank you :) I felt that the acting was good in Season 1 already, but what really elevated it for me overall in this season was how they all truly have become their characters. It doesn't "feel" like watching acting.
3:04 You can read Volumes 1-3 safely. Volumes 1-2 were S1 of the series, and Volume 3 is S2. So you can read that one now, since you've finished S2. Volume 4 will likely be S3. Then the new book will have to wait a bit.

so glad you noticed the expert book acting of Tobi Donovan because he actually talked about how hard he worked to get that down, while preparing for his role as Isaac. it’s more than just holding a book and apparently, you really have to pay attention to what page you’re on and everything! 32:15 I was wondering if they would include this part or not. It was mentioned in the books but I wasn't sure how dark they'd go with Charlie in the series.

I think Kit and Joe have been fantastic in this second season, they have grown so much acting-wise and they have taken another step in terms of chemistry between them. That final scene is the perfect summation of how much they've grown and how much deeper the story has gotten. The fourth volume that we will probably see in the third season is the hardest and most moving, without anticipating anything, I just say that a great storm is coming, we will have great moments, a memorable I love you, and a scene that I can only imagine incredible between Kit/ Nick and Olivia/Sara. We'll have to wait a bit but I'm sure it will be worth it... we have the books anyway.

We’ve seen at least three other teachers in both seasons, Mr Lange who is N&C’s form teacher, the woman who is Tara, Darcy and Elle’s form teacher at Higgs and the woman who is the music teacher. Wonder if they’ll all come out in season 3. There is something in the water at Truman and Higgs. 🤣

Nick's dad reminds me a lot of my own dad. It's never fun when your dad just doesn't even care enough to be involved in your life.
I suspect that by episode 6 before Nick came out at the party when Harry was apologizing that he had already figured out that Nick and Charlie were together because he didn't ask to talk to just Charlie. He asked to talk to - and then apologized to - Nick AND Charlie. And he defended them on the Eiffel Tower. I think he had already figured it out.
I now find Mr. Ajayi to be very sexy after the end of episode 6. The way he kissed Mr. Farouk was sexy as hell.
Tao's mom is totally in a tie for mom of the year with Nick's mom. She's so happy about Tao and Elle getting together!
Tori is the absolute MVP of episode 7 versus Nick's a**hole brother. Let's give that girl an award!
Darcy's mom is easily up for villain of the season. Definitely the worst of all the parents.
Ben is still garbage. He might have said he's sorry, but I'm not convinced he actually understands what he did wrong or why it was wrong. Maybe what Charlie said to him will help with that.
And the prom episode was both so beautiful and a bit heartbreaking at the same time.
And finally, my goodness this season was so great for bi+ representation and for combatting biphobia and bi erasure. "I'm bi, actually" is like this season's "her dog died". So good. I love this show so much!!! The wait for season 3 is going to feel like a lifetime!!!

To be fair, Alice did say in the first graphic novel's author's note said that the series is how Nick & Charlie met and started toward where they were in the novel Solitaire. So I don't think she would have Nick & Charlie break up only to get back together two seasons later.

Alice’s books came to life!!! If you don’t want any spoilers don’t read 4 or 5. I did and yes there are spoilers. Yes they did take 7 hrs for last scene (very emotional for both actors 💔😢) the tear in nick’s eye broke my heart and Charlie leaving Nick’s house in Nicks blue sweater. Blue and yellow back. s2e7 broke me again like s1e7. S2e8 was labeled perfect but the look on Nick was not perfect. We got s1e7 when Nick went to Tao and again we got it and Nick realized that Charlie spoke to no one about being bullied and it’s effect on him 😭 we also got s1e8 “platonic bff” and s1e2 “straight friend”. There are more similarities to s1 that Alice gave us
You're the first person I've watched who wasn't spoiled about Isaac's storyline by commenters who read beforehand that Alice's plan was to make an aroace plotline for him. Everyone else I watched so far has been like "I know Isaac's ace" when it wasn't in season 1 yet at all and that's a bit of a bummer. It's one thing for us superfans to know it but every reactor except for you had that spoiled by overly enthusiastic fans it seems.
Also LOL at the sexual mushroom, never seen anyone comment on it before, haha!
Also also your perfect world where the actors are all friends is very real. They are so close with each other and the whole montage at Nick's house after prom is just them having fun and improvising, hanging out as their characters.

A number of reasons have questioned the messaging thru Instagram. 1) messaging thru apps is commonplace. I'm paging 60 &, I do it. 2) from a production standpoint, you don't have to worry about multiple phone numbers, especially putting them on screen. Plus, it's an easy way to get ahold of people who might not want to hear from you. See Ben & David!

YES!!!!! We've been corrupted!! Let's not forget the most iconic scene in American television history when a medical transport agent tripped in an ER and dropped an ice chest with a human heart, which then flew across the floor, AND THEN A SERVICE DOG RAN OVER AND ATE IT. That's what shaped our expectations in the US.

What makes the scene with Charlie and Ben all the more impressive is that, as has now been all but confirmed, Joe and Bash are a couple in real life. It had been speculated for a time, but when Joe came out a few days ago, it confirmed what was an open secret. As such, the fact that they could do that scene with such emotion and force is a testament to their talent.
As for the last 8 minutes, that was a masterclass on acting rivaling the talents of actors with far more experience. It hit hard and was, in many ways, an uncompromising tour de force presented in such a muted tone so as to be deafening to the soul. It still blows my mind knowing that this role is the very first for Joe Locke and how quickly he has grown as an actor over two seasons. As for Kit, he just keeps tearing up the screen with a powerfully restrained and pained performance. These two will be impressing audiences for years to come, of this I have no doubt.
Joe and Bash are not a couple anymore. And Joe is openly gay since he still was a kid. 😉

I had guessed after S1 that Joe and Bash were a couple when I saw Tobie's behind-the-scenes videos and they seemed all over each other in some of them. But I never heard anything official. Someone else had mentioned that they're not a couple (anymore?).

I enjoy your reactions! This season really was so powerful. I cannot watch it without bawling 😭 my eyes out. Especially episode 8. I love these characters so much. It seems there is a lot of green tones this season and I think it’s because Nick and Charlie are a couple now and. Because 💛+💙=💚. 😊 Season three will be a bit deeper and darker, but I am confident Alice and team will do an amazing job! Excited about Vol 5 in December. BTW do any of you spot Alice in the background when they are setting up for prom? Also, the last song playing in episode eight is William Goa his sister. I think he is playing the piano and she is doing the vocal. It’s beautiful. They have a band called Wasia Project. That song is called “ ur so pretty”
So many mixed emotions here! I believe Ben does recognize he is toxic to Charlie on the multiple occasions because after each one, he offers his lame apology and believes he truly has apologized to Charlie until during their study hall time Nick forces him to better see how much he hurt Charlie I, too, felt bad for Ben during his sincere apology at Lambert, but if he was truly truly regretful he would not still be acting like a douchebag. Actions will always speak louder than words. In real life, people will tell you and show you who they really are. Bash seems like a lovely human being and it would have been amazing to see Ben really turn around. For me, I’m sad and a bit scared for the Ben character because he is in such a dark place and literally has not one person in his corner. Hopefully, he really does see how rotten he has been and does make better decisions moving forward……especially now that he sees just how happy he could be. I understand he has an unsupportive home life but that doesn’t give him the right to be so nasty to people. That’s the part that is unforgivable. That’s why Charlie has no forgiveness for Ben. If Ben’s parents can’t accept and love him for who he truly is, maybe they are who he needs to walk away from until they can….if that’s even possible. FAMILY is not always who you’re born into. Seek out and find the right people and surround yourself with them. 💛💙. Sorry for the novel.

There weren't people except the cast in the museum - they were added in after. And the guy who scolded Nick and Charlie was the director.
I don't condone Ben's behavior because a$$ault is a$$ault, but I do understand - I think a lot of people jump to hate on him right away without considering all the facts (his home life, etc)
Imogen's outfits change with whichever boy she's dating at the time, too - and get the most colorful in Paris when she's single again.
The last scene broke/breaks me every time because I relate to Charlie in so many ways 😢

I understand why Ben didn't want to come out, but those reasons don't translate to not understanding when people are saying no. The SA happened WEEKS after Charlie broke things off with him, and Ben was obsessive and controlling, and continued to try to be all throughout this season too. Internalized homophobia does not equal being an abusive partner.
Ben’s situation is a direct parallel to Darcy’s. Both are not out to their parents who they know are homophobic. Darcy treats Tara like a princess while Ben treats Charlie like dirt. No sympathy for Ben from me. Glad he won’t be backing Season 3.

Definitely a shift in tone for him than Season 1. I really enjoyed all the extra character layers actually, for pretty much everyone. Excellent sophomore season :)

Also probably because it's pretty common outside of the US. I don't know anyone who uses iMessage or texts. My age, most people use WhatsApp, but I've heard from younger family members that Insta is pretty common now too.
@@ipurpleu1668 Yeah I kinda suspected that too. It’s my understanding that while iPhone is huge in the US, Android is bigger abroad. Makes sense apps like Insta or WhatsApp would be a uniform way to communicate, share videos, etc.
