If you have a fuel indicator on your dashboard like a picture of a pump, you'll notice an arrow on one side or the other- the arrow side tells you which side of the vehicle the cap is on.
Lela will be so happy with Turtle! I remember when Billy introduced you, and Lela. I was so very impressed with her manner, and manners, and especially with you taking her everywhere. I took my Spaniels everywhere, too, and Grandma was their next favorite person. I found out why: she bought them ice cream cones whenever the van came by!
Just noticed your channel and will definitely keep watching your journey. We have a 1990 talbot petrol, but with the door on side. I hate driving it as compared to our lexus automatic car with all the fancy bits and extras, the Talbots lack of power steering and speed, isnt for me 😅.but my partner, a lorry driver, it isnt an issue! We just fitted a diesel heater and lovely and toastie. Just in middle of renovating interior and painting exterior, 3/4 done. Good luck on your journey and great to see a young lad with so much drive and optimism. Well done
Love the videos and I'm glad you got your van back! As a mechanic myself I think (I could be wrong) from what I heard when you were driving it, it idles a bit too high! I can't say what a normal RPM for that engine would be, but for most vehicles it should be around 650-950-ish RPM! You might want to check up on that! The downsides you're facing from idling too high is higher gas consumption, extra wear on the engine and overheating issues, less performance and the obvious environmental concern! Now ,I can't be certain from what I saw and heard in your video but if you think it idles too high you might want to take a look at that! If it has a manual choke, make sure you don't leave that on after its warmed up a bit too! 😛 I must say, that van is pretty sweet, and after you're done with the interior it'll be so much cooler! 😁👍 // Happy holiday greetings from Sweden! 😊
I've had older motorhomes, they do take work and you are just the bloke to take one on. Before you do anything to it please take you and Layla away for a few days and learn about the van. Best wishes. I am enjoying sharing your adventure.
Turtle is such a brilliant name… Turtles are also quite slow 🤣. A diesel heater is a brilliant idea. I’d definitely keep the kitchen sink too. Such an exciting project that’s reflected in the constant smile on your face. Good stuff Alex. 👌
My Motorhome is named ‘Tortuga’ and has 2 Tortuga decals on her. Delighted you’ve given your van the English version of Tortuga. Safe and happy journeys.
Alex, when you do the referb on the kitchen area, keep the sink, and just add a small microwave. The new RV kitchen set ups are remarkable compact and will allow you plenty space for the kettle!
So, this is the start of Turtle life, with plenty to plan and get just right ! Obviously, your lovely dog needs to be held safely and not become a projectile in case of a sudden stop. Once that is sorted, you can reorganise everything else. Good luck ! ❤
"On the road again🎶 I just can't wait to get on the road again The life I love is making music with my friends And I can't wait to get on the road again🎵🎶Happy travels, Team Layla.
Congratulations on the van.please do the windows the next time. I like to see we’re you are going. The windshield has a reflection when it is dirty. Still love you😊😊. Good luck
OMG! Layla poppin up and her “voice” saying “subscribe” had me laughing out loud! So excited for you and can’t wait to see what the coming videos about Turtle show us! Layla has made herself quite at home!
Love the Name! Turtle! Laila seems to like it maybe let her have a bed foot well of the other seat she seems to like it.

Congrats to you, Alex, on getting your van back finally. So happy for you. I look forward to seeing your updates on your van. I just love Layla! Great video!
If and when you do an interior remodel you can insulate and soundproof the wall panels, tyre surrounds ( very important) and floor/ceiling. Well worth it. Lots of campervan and van conversions to watch on youtube. Maybe you could even do a collaboration with a creator with experience. They have all the tricks to utilise space. Good luck with future Turtle adventures.
You're going to need bigger shirts after 6 months of using the manual steering as your arms will double in size😂 Just a thought when you start the remodel. There is always lots of dead space when building cabinets and such. If you could incorporate hidden access panels to that space it would give you secure places to stow your gear safely🤔. As always, great video.
100 Liters is only about 26 gallons and my Ford Explorer has a 21 gallon tank. Your camper van would very comfortably hold at least 26 gallons or more.
Not all fuel gauges are accurate. My car the last half of the tank is actually one third a tank, the 1/2-3/4 full on the gauge is about a third and the 3/4-full is about a third😂. So the gauge is marked in quarters but I estimate the fuel by thirds. Also thanks for the USD price per liter, but Americans buy fuel in gallons, so a little more math for them :). As an American who’s lived overseas for over a decade converting fuel prices is always hard Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!
Wishing you wonderful journeys in your home on wheels Alex. This brings back memories for me when my husband and I had one, an older one as well and we had a blast. Motor on!
You were only round the corner from me when you checked your brakes! :D Looking forward to seeing how the van progresses, and to seeing what your AMAZING talking dog Layla will say next ;)
LOL love the name and Layla's sign off. You do need some type of functioning kitchen cooktop so you can make soup on a rainy day. They have some really nice camper kitchens these days, so much better than they used to be. Check out their website for telephone and email address. They can help you with any parts you might need. It's a bit of a drive but their prices and knowledge are worth it. They sell appliances too. Looks like a smooth ride, Alex!! Excellent to invest in a classic camper van!!! Fingers crossed & blessings for safe travels. Wise to drive locally until the "bugs" are worked out. Hi, Lela!!
Alex adapt the kitchen area don,t pull it out.get a single gas cooker(camping store) you will always want to make a cuppa etc I luv the “turtle” month sure about the stick shift ,but here in Tasmania the turtle would fit in happily.Happy journeys Alex &Leila ❤
Sounds like you have about a 35 gallon tank on that RV.. That would be on the small sode considering the age of it. Fuel economy was a fictional then back then..
On the fuel gauge on North American vehicles there is a little arrow that shows what side the gas cap is on. Not sure about you guys across the pond, that might be why your gas pump symbol is on the left side of your gauge.
Well done finally you have your van. Your petrol prices seem similar to ours which in pounds would be 1.39 for 98, and 1.16 for 91 grade neither are E10.
I think you will regret taking out too much of the kitchen, when you are travelling it’s nice to just stop make a quick meal and not have to go looking to buy food.
Adapt and update the kitchen you have ,you can spend too much for no benefit ,fuel mpg will not be good so bulky,Lala needs a dog belt for both your safety, you have belt and emergency brake by you she will be thrown about ,hard surfaces big vet bills!
Always with a new to you vehicle, get the wheel balancing checked and get the tracking done. I once bought a lovely Rover 420 GSi in British racing green. I went out in it the day after I bought it on a wet day and it was like the car was on tippitoes or roller blades so I took it straight to ATS and someone had put the wheels on the wrong way as in the wheels running forwards should have been turning backwards and two were borderline on the limit so the ATS guys fixed each corner including the back to front ones, balanced them and set up the tracking. It then drove like a proper sporty car.
I'm overly concerned about your safety aboard this contraption, My concern is the brakes, are they fixed or not? Where is your 1st adventure? Be safe my Favourite Waffler !
Turtle was hot footing it today. It looks like Leyla and all the camera equipment are right at home.
21:29 🤣 Layla’s face 🥰 She does seem to love it in the van💕
Love it!
Maybe when you take out a cabinet you could custom build a permanent bed for Layla!
I love Turtle! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
PS ..problem solved at no cost! Don't drink and drive 😂😂😂❤ Alex xx
So happy for you, Alex, to finally have your camper van (Turtle) back! Happy travels!
Congratulations you have a great van!
Layla so cute setting there looking out the window and congratulations 🎊 🎉
If you have a fuel indicator on your dashboard like a picture of a pump, you'll notice an arrow on one side or the other- the arrow side tells you which side of the vehicle the cap is on.
So cute and funny. Cute dog Layla
Yeah you got your van back ❤
Wonderful you’ve got the van home. Lela is brilliant so quick to get into her bed. Alex this is going to be interesting for us to watch.

Who's a happy bunny then 😂😂😂
A lot of people fix stable safe seats for their little dogs so they can sit in up there and see and enjoy travels also.
You’ve got wheels 😊but it’s so noisy 😮all the best with the new van Alex❤

Hi Turtle 👋
Welcome home …
Can’t wait….We will be going on fun adventures together 😊❤❤❤❤❤
Great news that she’s past the mot , one more reason to call her turtle , she goes at the same speed lol great video

Take care
🐢 😁 😎
If the oven and fridge work keep them will be so useful on overnight shoots and group catering.
Congratulations on getting your van back! 😍🇦🇺
Great news Alex and good call on the diesel heater- you definitely won’t regret fitting one of those
Looking good Alex
Happy your dream is coming along.
Turtle is a great name. Have an awesome week, Alex and Lela!
Turtle, EXCELLENT! 🐢
Thanks to you guys!
Yes, great name 🐢 💕
Aww this comment was at the top of them all so I saw it before Alex said on the video.
@ sorry! 😂😂
@@GenaF I never even thought I'd be a spoiler. 😥
I am mortified.
Many apologies.
(I never knew what any suggestions were for the name.)
You may be able to adjust the switch on the handbrake, so that it lights up until it's firmly all the way down.
Great the Van is on the road and Lela too. Rides very nice. Till next time.
Awww! Lela is such a sweetie!
It's called "Armstrong Steering", because you need strong arms to steer
I'm excited Alex ❤😊🇦🇺
The gas cap/ petrol port should be indicated on the gas gage with an arrow pointing to the left or right
Great news Alex 👍
You were only round the corner from me when you checked your brakes! :D Looking forward to seeing how the van progresses, and to seeing what your AMAZING talking dog Layla will say next ;)
Might have needed your hose pipe! 😂
@@AlextheCameraman. LOL!!! You're welcome any time :D x
A tip for knowing what side for petrol ⛽️ just look at the dashboard. The hose on the gas sits on the same side as your lid. If that makes sense 😅
You can also mark a dot on the appropriate side on the dashboard with a bright colored nail polish. A little dot will do ya.
@ I guess you could, but it’s already marked up so what is the point? 🤭
Finally Turtle has come home! Excited to see the progress. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
It will be great fun to see your "turtle"" adventures. It's also fun to see your excitement and of course, Lela!

This is too old formal that convention.
Yes we have the arrow on the car instrument panel by the fuel gauge symbol, but it’s not clear on this video if this vehicle has the symbol.
Well done finally you have your van. Your petrol prices seem similar to ours which in pounds would be 1.39 for 98, and 1.16 for 91 grade neither are E10.

We have a 1980 truck that has 2 fuel tanks. And our 2000 expedition has a huge gas tank.
If the steering wheel is pulling to one side, have the tires checked.
🫡
Tires, alignment and brakes can all cause pulling.
Always with a new to you vehicle, get the wheel balancing checked and get the tracking done. I once bought a lovely Rover 420 GSi in British racing green. Thanks Leila for the reminder. Alex. What is the correct spelling of her name?

Thanks!!
it's terrible a mechanic can't put gas in.
that's expensive to fill up.
Layla is a dood durl.
Let Laila have a dogbed in the passenger side foot well, it will help with her motion sickness. Good luck with your new 'home'.
