Taylor in his prime was great, but a 2016 Mvg is the best I’ve ever seen someone troughout the whole darts season. He won every major apart from the world championship that year and became the 2017 world champion, threw a word record average, a nine darter, the highest world championship ever average, won 26 titles (most titles won in a year), he was on a whole different level.

Imagine scoring more than an average of 100, and still get thrashed. That would be a weird day. Did van Barneveld sleep well that night, or didn't he sleep for a week? :)
Games like these are why it perplexes me how people can think that MvG is much better than Taylor in terms of peak skill. Nearly a 111 average in a world final is something MvG is yet to do. Don’t get me wrong, there’s certainly an argument to be made for MvGs peak being slightly better than Taylor but not more. And let alone, MvG being the GOAT over Taylor which is just pure lunacy.
I agree that it's legendary what Taylor did in his his peak. But don't forget that MVG when in good form he averages allot 106+ in finals. Even plays better in the final under that pressure. Taylor will never be matched in (world)titles, butt i do think in my opinion that MVG is the best ever to touch the darts at the peak of the game. And MVG has opponents hitting 104+ averages at him and still dominates under that pressure. Taylor often had players hitting only 95 averages. And i do agree that Taylors downfall was switching to Target, not that Target sucks because they are also a top manufacturer, but it is different material and focus. I would have loved to see more Taylor vs MVG in the peak of the game. Together with a relaxed Gary Anderson they would have been friendly enemies for most of the titles.

I always loved how Phil's darts entered the board. So straight. Something therapeutic about it.
Like a surgeon, so delicate, precise and exact. and then you have MVG who bangs them in like a hammer.
His precision is really nuts. Even when he doesn't hit the triple, he's always very close.
Taylors first dart is out of this world. Slightly to the right and on the lower wire of the T20. Outstanding!
I so wish Dave Lanning and Sid Waddell were still around. Loved these guy's. Darts has never been the same since.
