The Sea Duck from Talespin is said to be an artistic combination of the Grumman hu-16 albatross, and the Fairchild C-82. The albatross is truly a marvel in engineering.
It doesn't have the usual R-1820's, I can tell by the lower pitch noise of the prop. The HU-16 engines usually sound like a bigger angrier Beech 18 engines. I'd say they were the engine models similar to those in the Grumman Tracker and Super DC-3.
One of the most amazing airplanes ever built. Love them and being on one. Only distraction and shame was the white out of sun through the windshield.
My husband was crew chief and flew these off of Guam, 1969 -71.
Flying with the Albatross HU-16 is a rare experience. I was stationed on Guam about the same time as your husband. Great memories and just fun.

Like I said. It's a big flying RV that floats too.
I worked on those in Aviation School in NC in 1974 in the Coast Guard.
So did I, 1971. Flew as an aircrewman at AS Cape Cod before transitioning to H-52's

JMSDF get 6 UF-2 in 1961 as rescue-utility aircraft and retired them in 1976
sadly, in 1965, one of them crashed in training flight and killed 7 crew.
Love this plane
That thing looks like a pain to fly
In almost every video I've seen the co-pilot is working the throttle for whatever reason
Whats your VMU speed in this please?
Seems like a lot going on in the cockpit...I thought one guy could fly it.
John Hall but is that a FAA requirement?
I take it that you are NOT an aviator?! Good video.
Jim Fowler It's does not take four guys to fly. You don't have to be an aviator to know this!
One personal can fly the plane. I fly solo, but help is always better.
Jimmy Buffett flys it. What's yer point?
Is it a hydroplane?
sea plane, but yes HU-16 is can land/take off from water or land. That is old ww2 plane
not WWII. Not prototyped until 1947
well, there's a rather longish foreplay (about 3:20 minutes) before anything happens. Could have cut some of it.
Baltimore Harbor?
Hilary Brust long beach. They pass the QM and the Dome of the Spruce Goose.
Flying bathtub.
