In September 2014, Sanchayita Jadav aka SANCHAYITA PINKY JADAV, a resident of DumDum, Kolkata faced an acid attack. Sanchayita Jadav is an acid attack survivor, a fighter, & the adverse situation of the acid attack did not let her give up on life. Sanchayita says - “I am a fighter. I will not give up.”
Sanchayita Jadav works with the Human Rights Law Network. The unit expanded its work and now the focus is on providing pro bono legal aid to the poor, marginalized people with disabilities and socially discriminated sections of the society. Human Rights Law Network is a core component working in collaboration with grassroots organizations, academics, policy-makers, judiciary, students and activists.
Sanchayita has been working with a human rights organization since 2016. For her, her victory was a triumph over all the social stigma and the emotional scars that had come with an acid attack.
In a society where a woman’s worth is still tied to her appearance, the disfigurement, physical pain, and psychological trauma that acid attacks cause give women like Sanchayita a lifetime of difficulties. Against all the psychological and physical torture that she suffered, Sanchayita says she can not only stand up for her rights but also raise her voice for others too. You have thrown acid on my face; not on my dreams. There are billions of women who fall prey to brutal patriarchy in their lives - not just acid-attack, but rape, domestic violence, and physical abuse, thus increasing the male-female divide. Putting women down, at a level lower than men, is the issue. Believing that men are superior and women are born to take care and serve wishes of the superior is the problem. Even if one person echoes this mindset, the problem will continue to persist.
