Elizabeth Cotten is my great grandmother. I am Brenda Evans, one of the great grands who she mentioned who added verses to the song Shake Sugaree. I am also the vocalist featured on her album Shake Sugaree. It is so wonderful to read the comments each of you have written. It makes me happy and grateful to know that you appreciate her music. Thank you!

I've only just discovered her. I'm a 54 year old white guy from the UK. Have a really wide array of musical loves, but some people slip by. Glad I found her.

That's awesome! How great that experience had to be. Love her music and sweet personality, so awesome. I heard freight train a few months ago and was in awe. Just found out a few minutes ago she was born in chapel hill, I just left there a few minutes ago literally, it's only 10 miles from me!

I recently bought the book Libba for two small children that I know. One of them loves the book so much that she make her parents read it to her every day! I love watching Libba play her way!

Same here. At thirteen, I saw her on Pete Seeger's PBS show. I was immediately smitten and committed to learning it. Still a wonderful song.
