Karel Janoušek, a Czechoslovakian soldier who later trained to be a pilot, played a key role in the Battle of Britain. He coordinated the inaugural Czechoslovak Air Force units in the Royal Air Force. Following this stint, he was imprisoned in his own country after the war and was considered a threat to the regime. My late Dad did not understand modern music but he was a great fan of Sabaton. So as he hated to be photographed the only way to bribe him into sitting for a photo session was to give him a Sabaton official T-shirt :) Dad passed away 3 years ago (aged 92) and now whenever I listen to Sabaton music (old and new) I feel like my Dad is with me saying "well done, guys".

@@martawojtkowska5711 it's amazing how music can be appreciated by all generations. My Great Grandfather was in the US Cavalry in Nicaragua in the 1930s and listened to Hank Williams in the 1940s as well as Marty Robbins, Guy Mitchell and Richard Price in the 1950s. Who would've known he'd like 2010s historical power metal. His favorite song I personally showed him was Corb Lund " I wanna be in the Cavalry ". I tried to get him to listen to The Trooper by Iron Maiden but in his own words " The Light Brigade ran into cannons and that sure hell doesn't seem fun to me, why dammit would I want to listen to a song about that ". Older generations are more fun.

I really feel all those stories, the best band! I wish you could do a song about the Mexican pilots fighting in Philippines and Formosa in WW2!! One of my grandparent's friend went there. My dad repeats the story of how they waited around the radio for the list of pilots that came back alive from a mission. By the way, they trained in Tuskegee, AL with the red tails.

My great grandma loves sabaton, specifically the albums about ww2 as she lived through that and has memories of how it was in England at the time. She says (when talking about the bombs that would fly over and be dropped) the scariest thing about the bombs were when they were silent. When they made noise it meant they were flying. When the noise stopped, they dropped. She remembers one day riding home from school when that happened. Safe to say she rode home quickly.
She also has memories of her mother saying that if the English lost and Hitler were to come towards their house she’s turn the oven on and burn the house down before she would let them near her children. It’s sad but also a little cool to know how people thought during the war.
Also we have a picture of my nan happy in her wheelchair holding Heroes album and The Great War album
